2/4/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill

Easter Monday racing in Sydney heads to Rosehill where eight races will be run and won. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Tricky race for the babies but I’m siding with 1 Graff (Bet Now: $4.50), a Star Witness colt on debut for the Kris Lees team. This bloke trialled well back in January before being spelled and he has since trialled again on March 14 when winning that trial in good time. Good lead for mine that he debuts in town.

6 The Art Of The Bar (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Waterhouse/Bott trained filly that resumes here. Was well fancied when debuting in the Calaway Gal during the Brisbane Summer Carnival but just did too much work on speed when sixth to Outback Barbie, who franked that form in the Magic Millions. Has been ridden out in both trials leading in, so she’s forward enough to win.

2 Thorn Brook (Bet Now: $7.50) is the very interesting runner. Ken Lantry trains this youngster, who is on debut, and it’s rare to see the stable send one to town, never mind a first starter.He trialled well at Newcastle on March 14 and actually ran quicker time than Graff, so the double figures on offer does look a touch of overs.

5 Red Rover (Bet Now: $4.40) on top. Team Hawkes train this colt, who was kept safe in the market when debuting just over a fortnight back at Gosford and he did a bit wrong in the run but I thought his effort in defeat was more than sound behind Staraday. Back on his home track now and gets the blinkers on to sharpen him up.

4 Pioneer (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Gwenda Markwell trained colt who ran over the short course at Gosford (Metro) a couple of Wednesdays back where he put the pressure on to Dinnigan and looked to travel well but as soon as he was asked for the effort, the wheels were spinning and he didn’t look happy on the bog. Happy to give him another chance on top of the ground.

1 Baltic Success (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Bjorn Baker trained gelding who was well backed in that Dinnigan race mentioned above and I thought he had his chance when a well beaten third. Like Pioneer, not sure he was entirely happy in the conditions but given the run he had, was expecting a bit more. I do think he appears the value at around $6.50-$7.

Happy to have something each way on 1 All Too Free (Bet Now: $7.00). Team Snowden trains this filly, who is resuming after debuting at Kembla Grange back in December where she ran a solid fourth to Campaign, a race which has produced a few winners, so the form doesn’t read too bad and I love what I have seen from her at the trials. I think she can only run well.

5 Montrachet (Bet Now: $2.50) is a daughter of Fastnet Rock that resumes for the Hawkes camp. This girl was heavily backed when debuting at Gosford back in December when running second to the above average galloper The Drake. Been given a good break and I thought she trialled up well here last week. Looks ready to go.

7 Press Review (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Chris Waller trained filly resuming. She showed good promise in a two run Summer prep, debuting with a solid fourth at Canterbury before racing like a tired horse at Randwick on New Years Day. Her trial behind stablemate Schoolmates last week here was good to the eye and she gets Blake Shinn on board.

This race for me is all about 4 Savacool (Bet Now: $2.35). Clearly the best horse in the race IMHO and I think she could do something similar to that of Egg Tart and measure up in the SA Oaks and/or QLD Oaks. First up here but has really looked the part in a couple of trials. Has been accepted/scratched a few times also, so she’s the watch horse.

10 Velocita (Bet Now: $3.10) is a talented daughter of Sebring that resumes for Chris Waller. She is similar to Savacool re the Oaks path so she is another that interests me here. Has only had the one soft trial but that was behind a Stakes class mare in Lubton. Market will be the guide but if she’s forward enough, she’s certainly good enough.

8 Leami Astray (Bet Now: $12.00) looks crazy odds here at near $20 so I’ll definitely have something on her. She ran in the Gosford qualifier for the Provincial Championship and you could make a case that she should have run top three and qualified. Just had no luck in the straight when appearing to be bolting. Normal luck here and I think she’ll run a beauty.

I’ll have something small each way on 2 Lord Kingsley (Bet Now: $19.00). I reckon back to this level and back to 1800m are the big ticks. He ran over 2000m here last time out and just got too far back in a slowly run affair behind Multifacets. Doesn’t have the depth that field had last start and Koby Jennings rides the horse well so at $20+, I’ll be on.

7 Mornington (Bet Now: $10.00) is the watch horse for me. First prep in Australia was during the Summer and he ran well for the most part but didn’t win. These imports generally improve at their second prep and while his two trials have been inconclusive, I think he’s certainly good enough to be in the finish if he’s right.

3 Sizzling Bullet (Bet Now: $10.00) was over a month between runs in the Multifacets race mentioned above. I thought Williams gave the horse every chance but again, the tempo was very slow and that just isn’t the race he likes his races to be run. Wants a rolling tempo so if that eventuates here, back to 1800m, he can bounce back.

9 Seaway (Bet Now: $5.00) on top for me. Chris Waller trains this three year old, who resumes after a pretty solid Spring/Summer prep, where he showed good promise right the way through. Was down to run last week at Warwick farm but stable pulled the pin and instead run here. Recent trial was good and he looks above average.

2 Dissolute (Bet Now: $3.50) is a New Approach gelding for the James Cummings team who is a few weeks between runs since getting the job done impressively at Kembla Grange. Been given a little freshen up and to my eye he trialled up well recently when winning. Has to step it up a notch here but I think he can.

1 Top Striker (Bet Now: $17.00) looks the horse at crazy odds. Greg Hickman trains this bloke and he comes off a last start effort at blacktype level when not far away in the Maurice McCarten behind Dothraki. Drops big time in grade/depth here and should get a lovely run from the gate. Could definitely have something on at the $18.

Happy to have something each way on 9 Sugar Dance (Bet Now: $10.00) for the Gayna Williams team. This gelding sat four wide no cover throughout last start at Scone yet still rounded them up, won impressively and ended up winning with a bit in hand on the line. Should do no work from the gate here and I think he can only run well.

10 Almighty Crown (Bet Now: $11.00) is a son of Street Cry resuming for the Chris Waller camp. Showed good promise towards the end of last prep when the stable stepped him out in trip and he responded. He did have the tag as a bit of a non winner but he looks to have come back in good order if the recent trial is any guide.

I’m very interested in 12 Revolver (Bet Now: $10.00). Over 12 months between runs for Chris Waller and comes back to racing as a gelding. Showed good promise when last in work and he looks to be going well enough for his resumption after winning a Warwick Farm trial last Friday in impressive fashion. Definite yard/market watch.

7 Marble (Bet Now: $2.90) for me in the get out. I’m happy to put the line through his resumption at Gosford (Metro) last time out where he was four and five wide no cover on speed for the trip and really had no chance behind the old stalwart Prince Mayted. If he brings his best form here, I think he wins, but I just want to watch.

12 Sophiella (Bet Now: $3.20) is a beauty for the Bjorn Baker team. Two for two and she has the wonderful racing pattern of sustained speed. Sat on speed in both wins and each time she has attacked the line best to win. Draw is a touch awkward, but if she ping over and lead, at the 1100m start here, she’ll take some beating.

If they happen to go silly in front, then a horse like 1 Parlay Vous (Bet Now: $15.00) could well blouse them. He hasn’t raced since getting a much needed confidence boost when winning impressive against an average lot at Goulburn. Been kept up to the mark with a recent tick over trial but the thing with this horse, he is a bomb when produced fresh.
