A really strong card of racing has been assembled for Doomben this Saturday for George Moore Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:222) Hamilton Hotel Handicap (90) 2200m
4 The Rumour File (Bet Now: $3.00) for me. This bloke ran over this track/distance last Saturday where he got a mile back off them but Fradd saved all the ground nearer the inside but the bird aka stablemate Kirini had flown and pinched a winning break. Won’t be far back this time and I’m quite confident he can return to the winners list.
1 My Giuliano (Bet Now: $3.10) was an alarming drifter in betting when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back but nobody told the gelding that as he lapped up the bog surface and careered away for a dominant victory. The beauty about that win is that he is a much better horse on firmer footing, so he handles all conditions.
3 Magnatune (Bet Now: $4.60) is on the quick back up for the Gary Duncan team after racing over 1800m on his home track at the Sunny Coast last Friday night where he tried very hard under D Browne but was just no match for the low flying Sheza Lily. Up to 2200m is a big tick, hard fit and he could easily surprise here.
Race 2. (13:57) Stanley River Throughbreds Handicap (70) 1050m
1 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $2.50) is a Toby Edmonds trained gelding who toughed it out best to win in the mud at Ipswich two back before racing over the 1110m here where he sat on speed and tried hard but couldn’t hold out Amanaat, who has won again since, so that form reads well, and back to 1050m is a big tick.
4 Viceman (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding who trialled up really well prior to resuming at Ipswich last Wednesday where he had a relatively good run near the speed before taking the lead on the turn, but that allowed Prue’s Angel to get the split and away she went. He is a good horse Viceman and he showed city potential when with Joe Pride.
3 Stellarcraft (Bet Now: $11.00) is a ripper for the David Murphy team. He doesn’t win often, but he is always thereabouts and tries very hard, which is what he did last Wednesday at Ipswich when flashing home after missing the start to run second to Truculent. That was 800m, so up to 1050m is ideal and he will be strong late.
Race 3. (14:32) Sizzling Plate 1050m
Going to take a chance on 12 Veranes (Bet Now: $5.00) here. This is a filly on debut for the Kelso Wood/Patricia Gesler team. This girl has had two trials to prepare for her debut, firstly finishing down the track behind Ef Troop before coming out and bolting up in her recent trial. Bred to swim, so if we get rain, big tick, and stable always produce a ripping juvenile.
3 Osbeck (Bet Now: $3.60) is the big watch for me here. Chris Waller trained colt on debut and he looks ready to go off the back of a sharp trial win on the Gold Coast back on November 13 where he did it comfortably and ran good time relative to the morning. Draws an inside gate and bred to be okay on a wet track.
13 Phoenix Shadow (Bet Now: $26.00) is a chestnut colt on debut for the Heinrich/Rodgers team. This bloke has only trialled once, here on November 14 when winning the trial and looking to go about his business nicely. The worry is that the runner up was awful on debut last Saturday, so the form is unknown, but happy to give him a look.
Race 4. (15:08) Seq Ice Cream Handicap (85) 1200m
1 In His Stride (Bet Now: $10.00) looks well placed back to this level. He comes through the Keith Noud at Ipswich where he got back in a slowly run affair and couldn’t quite come on but was sound in defeat behind Monsieur Gustave. Been a while since has found a race as weak as this, so give him another look.
7 Ringo’s A Rockstar (Bet Now: $3.70) is on the seven day back up for the Norm Stephens camp after racing here last Saturday where he just got too far back in a leader dominated affair but his effort was more than sound behind the low flying Amanaat. He is becoming a bit costly, but if he gets the right run and isn’t far away, he’ll look the winner.
8 Mishani El Lobo (Bet Now: $6.50) is three weeks between runs for the Chris Anderson camp after racing over the 1110m here where he was a total forgive for mine after sitting wide no cover on speed for the trip and just felt the pinch behind Amanaat, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Up to 1200m a big tick.
Race 5. (15:48) Bobby Clarke Mode Plate 1200m
3 Pretty Fast (Bet Now: $1.65) looks so well placed here by Team Snowden to get some blacktype. Thought she was ridden superbly by Tye Angland a fortnight back at Rosehill, sitting up near the speed before forcing the issue on the turn, putting away the leader and going on with it for a sharp victory. Should take a power of beating here.
1 Dream Kisses (Bet Now: $8.00) is a quality filly for Steve O’Dea who resumed on the bog here a fortnight ago and considering she was carrying 59kg and looked big in condition, she ran really well in defeat I thought behind Cooroi Chase. She’ll be much better suited here with the weight relief, added fitness, up to 1200m and firmer footing. Ticks plenty of boxes.
If we do get a wet track, 2 Cooroi Chase (Bet Now: $8.00) comes right into the mix. She is an absolute swimmer and that was proved once again here a fortnight back on a bog when dashing right away and winning by nearly five over the 1050m. 1200m is no issue, she’s hard fit, in form…definite threat if she gets the right conditions.
Race 6. (16:28) Become A BRC Member Handicap (Class 6) 1600m
3 Richard Of Yorke (Bet Now: $21.00) on top in a tricky race. He resumes here for Chris Waller and though the mile is short of his best, I think he can run a real race here at odds. He can pull out a decent run fresh, this is the easiest race he has contested in some time, and his trials leading in have been quite good. Happy to give him an each way chance.
4 Lord Coconuts (Bet Now: $13.00) comes through the Zahspeed race here a few weeks back and his effort from the back against the bias was excellent. Closed off with real purpose and despite never being a winning threat, he was a real eye catcher to run fourth. He then ran at the Sunny Coast last Sunday and got too far back behind Belflyer. Certainly good enough to figure.
Race 7. (17:08) Access Insulation Winning Rupert Plate 1200m
2 Bring It Home Pop (Bet Now: $2.80) is a quality colt for the Darryl Hansen team. He resumed on the bog here a fortnight back and while he didn’t really seem 100% in the conditions, his class and brilliance was enough for him to get home. Will be much better suited here and it’s hard to knock a horse that just keeps winning.
6 Pierata (Bet Now: $3.60) is a talented colt that resumes for Greg Hickman. This bloke hasn’t raced since the JJ Atkins when finishing a gutsy seventh to Capital Gain and he didn’t pull up 100% post race. Blew them away in a recent trial win and the signs are there to suggest he’s in for a ripping Summer campaign.
1 Capital Gain (Bet Now: $6.50) is the JJ Atkins winner who kicks off his Summer prep for the Paul Butterworth. He was the star local of the Winter Carnival, finished off with that Group l win, and the form out of that has been outstanding. Looks to have trialled up quite well in readiness for his return. 1200m is short of his best, but has class.
Race 8. (17:48) Sua George Moore Stakes 1200
Keen on 5 Calanda (Bet Now: $3.30 ODDS BOOST). Team Snowden trained four year old who resumed with a solid effort on Blue Sapphire Day at Caulfield behind Rich Charm before racing down the straight on Cup Day and doing a good job nearer the inside when fourth to Ocean Embers. Loves a track with give in it, third up and D Browne steers.
10 Snoppy (Bet Now: $10.00 ODDS BOOST) is the big watch. Former Team Hawkes galloper now with Chris Munce. He was a real money muncher when racing in Sydney/Melbourne, but he was taking on fields with more depth than this and when he was on song, he did look a blacktype horse. Resumes with no trials, but he is a bomb when produced fresh and handles a wet track.
1 Beauty Flame (Bet Now: $16.00 ODDS BOOST) is such an interesting runner here. Former Hong Kong galloper now with Mel O’Gorman and is first up. On his HK form, he’d spank these, but first up after a decent break is the worry. But in saying that, his trials leading up to his return, especially the latest one at Armidale, was outstanding.
Race 9. (18:27) Ascot Green Plate (Class 3) 1200m
14 L’Elu (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Toby Edmonds trained mare who had her first run for the stable at the midweeks at Ipswich where she was tardy away, then Lloyd pressed forward but they kicked up inside, so she dragged back and that sealed her fate, plus I’m not sure she was 100% happy around the circuit. Better suited here and she has quality.
I think 4 I’m A Rippa (Bet Now: $9.50) can run a race at odds. He resumes for the Tony Gollan camp after a pretty solid Winter prep, which did see him win impressively fresh before taking on some quality gallopers, including a third to Good Standing in the Queensland Day. Been given two solid trials, so I reckon there is intent to run well, and he should spear over from the wide gate, lead and take some running down.
10 Natural Black (Bet Now: $13.00) is a talented horse that is first up here for the Liam Birchley team. This bloke had a pretty solid Winter prep where he ran well in some strong races and didn’t disgraced himself at all. Draw is nasty, but he has trialled up well for his return and if they overdo it, he’ll be the one charging.
