2/10/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Kalgoorlie, Kalgoorlie Cup day

A bumper nine race card has been set down for Kalgoorlie this Saturday where it is Kalgoorlie Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

I’m with 5 Green And Shady (Bet Now: $1.85). Luke Fernie trained three year old that resumes after a solid juvenile prep, where he contested a couple of blacktype races, albeit didn’t measure up. Resumes without a public trial but stable usually have them ready to go fresh.

9 Commodore Gal (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Neville Parnham trained mare that was unwanted in betting when debuting over 1200m at Belmont but I thought her run had good merit to it. Sat on speed, tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when fifty. Better for the run and back in depth, she appeals.

2 Nobel Prince (Bet Now: $26.00) has the solid provincial WA form, which should hold him in good stead for this. Ran over 1100m at Northam last time out when back off the speed and wasn’t really a winning threat, but his finale was sound. Takes on a couple of nice types here, so not sure he wins, but a first four threat.

6 The Cat Ratcher (Bet Now: $4.40) is yet to prove himself beyond 1800m but his 2000m+ form reads pretty well for this. Two runs back from a spell over unsuitable trips have been quite good, the latest over the mile at Belmont three weeks ago behind Karijini Auorora. Gets out in trip and should land in a good spot from the draw, proving hard to beat at the end.

4 American Grin (Bet Now: $10.00) is a key winning hope. He had been struggling to win a maiden when with Adam Durrant but that all changed with Peter Fernie when a dominant winner over the mile here last time out, interestingly with Pike steering. I would assume he had the pick of the two and goes with Regal City. That is my thinking anyway. Regardless, American Grin runs well here.

5 Schooling (Bet Now: $26.00) does his best racing on dirt tracks these days, but he comes here as a dominant last start winner, so I think he’s one for multiples. That last start was the Newman Cup, where he spanked them by a margin. Just needs translate that to turf at metro level.

I think 6 Pretty Friar (Bet Now: $4.40) can win again. She had good three wide cover when racing at this track/distance last Sunday. Presented with clear air and finished over the top for a strong win. Has really found form since coming to Kalgoorlie for the Carnival and I think that continues here.

Interesting that 4 Pink And Purple (Bet Now: $2.30) dodged the Cup to run here instead. I thought her Boulder Cup effort had merit to it, certainly enough to suggest she could be competitive, but in terms of being a strong winning chance, this is the better race for her and stable gets Pike steering.

1 Miracle Man (Bet Now: $7.50) is third up here with upside to come. Hasn’t exactly set the world on fire in two runs back from a break but they have come in races much stronger than this, and he gets to a suitable trip, so you’d like to think an improved showing is on the cards.

2 Snippy Miss (Bet Now: $3.60) is an Adam Durrant trained mare that comes through the Ginger Flyer race from three weeks back. She sat back off the speed and loomed large to win but couldn’t quite get there when third. If she can sit a pair or two closer in the run, she’ll be dangerous.

He took a while to winning form but now that 3 Trade War (Bet Now: $3.50) has, I think he can go right on with it. That win came at Belmont when finishing best from off the speed under Chris Parnham. Little break between runs but liked the recent tick over trial and maps super from the gate.

5 Alcina (Bet Now: $13.00) has excellent track/distance stats so has to be respected. Resumed here where she had the 1/1 sit and loomed to win, but first up, her condition gave way. Better for that run, I think she is one to include in exotics rather than be a clear winning chance.

I’m pretty keen here on 5 Indigo Blue (Bet Now: $3.00) for the Durrant camp. Backed with confidence when resuming at Belmont but unfortunately got caught wide no cover for the trip. She battled on really well despite that hard run. If that hasn’t busted her, she will take a power of beating.

4 Phoneme (Bet Now: $9.50) has strong form lines around him to be competitive here. He ran over 1400m two weeks ago at Belmont and battled on pretty well after sitting on speed when fourth to the very much in form Kaptain Kaos. Back to this level, he appeals as a threat.

7 Kentucky Love (Bet Now: $23.00) has a pretty solid record on this track and could sneak a first four spot with luck in the run. Wide no cover when racing over 1100m here last time out and that hard run just told on her at the business end. Up in trip I like and is certainly in this as a multiples contender at a big price.

8 Little Ses (Bet Now: $3.80) will need luck in the run given her racing pattern but she’s a mare in form and has the best in the state, W Pike, to steer. Ran over 1760m here last time out when getting a mile out of her ground but loved the way she closed off late in the piece. If she is within range on the turn, I think she has the finale to beat these.

1 Campese (Bet Now: $3.00) is the best horse in the race in terms of metro form, but he’s starting to become a bit costly. Perhaps getting onto a dry deck will help his cause. He ran over 1300m at Belmont last time and was plain late. Getting out in trip, firm deck, one last chance.

3 He’s All Mighty (Bet Now: $10.00) is a key threat for Adam Durrant. Ran over 1700m at Belmont last Wednesday and you could make a case to say he fights the finish out with clear air instead of being badly held up at a vital stage. If he gets the rub of the green, he can take this out.

8 Beret (Bet Now: $2.80) only has to worry about bad luck. She has a bit on these I feel. Adam Durrant trained mare that resumed at Belmont when ridden cold and worked home strongly late when a narrow second to Jaguar Grey. Market support said she was ready to go and has come back well, which the run indicated. Clearly the one to beat.

Great third up record, firm deck, want to give 5 Weaponson (Bet Now: $6.00) another chance. He hasn’t really been that great in two runs back from a break, but they have come on wet ground, and he is clearly a horse who saves his best for dry ground, which he gets here, as well as a soft gate and Paul Harvey.

7 Night Voyage (Bet Now: $13.00) has the right form to give this a shake. His recent runs in town have been strong, the latest being three weeks ago at Belmont when placing behind talented sprinter This’ll Testya. If he gets luck from a tricky gate, he’ll take beating against this lot.

It’s been a great recipe in recent weeks, Pike on 9 Sugar Cain (Bet Now: $4.50). He remains with the mare and so will I. It was an absolute peach from him on her last Saturday, and no doubt the ride won her the race. This is her toughest test to date but just hare to knock the way she runs when Pike steers.

3 Media Baron (Bet Now: $2.90) looks to be cherry ripe for this race. David Harrison trained gelding that comes through the Boulder Cup and he was a real eye catcher, warming to the task at the end behind Friar Fox. He comes here with a sense of timing and is hard to beat.

8 Staffords Lad (Bet Now: $16.00) is a knockout chance for Dan Morton. He comes through the key lead up, the Boulder Cup, when back in the run and closing off well late when fifth. If he can sit closer in the run, he will take beating and be strong at the end. Certainly in this.

3 Devine Beast (Bet Now: $3.40) is bursting to win a race and I think she gets a great chance here. Few weeks between runs since racing over 1000m at Belmont when back off the speed and chasing strongly when second to Come Magic, who won last Saturday at Belmont, so the form reads well, and a truly run 1100m I like.

5 Rain God (Bet Now: $3.80) just needs to stretch his brilliance to 1100m to go close here. Was a notable drifter in betting last Wednesday at Belmont as the support came for The Republican and in the end, that horse was the one that nabbed Rain God on the peg. If he leads and gets control, he’ll take beating.

8 Jakestar (Bet Now: $41.00) will need luck in the run but if he gets it, he’s in with a shout. Brett Drury trained gelding that got a fair way back in the run when racing here last time out but was good late without being a winning threat. Gets in really well after the claim and if he’s within range, he can win for sure.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 8 Beret

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 5 Indigo Blue

LONG SHOT: Race Two Number 6 The Cat Ratcher
