The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues at Eagle Farm on Saturday where there are a host of feature races, including the Vo Rogue Plate (1400m), a key lead up towards the Magic Millions Guineas. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:23) Tab Venue Mode (bm75) 1000m
With all the scratchings, this has turned out to be a pretty ordinary race to kick off the meeting. Find it very interesting that stable has found Nash to steer 1 Oriental Runner (Bet Now: $9.00) first up with no trials. His form from last prep just reads superior to these with the likes of Right Or Wrong, Elixir and Fisticuffs in there. Drawn well, handles some give in the track…he’ll run well I think.
5 Adoradancer (Bet Now: $7.50) has the quality to take this out. Barry Lockwood trained mare that has been ridden cold at her past couple and while she hasn’t won, she has been more effective and hitting the line much better, her latest effort being behind Mishani Miss at the Sunny Coast in a good effort. Proven city performer at her best, so has to be included.
6 Hi Fiver (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Brian Wakefield trained gelding that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since September 5 at Doomben over 1200m when down the track and at the end of his prep behind Parko. Liked the recent trial and he does seem much more effective over the shorter trips so 1000m fresh I do like for him.
Race 2. (13:58) Magic Millions Hcp (90) 1200m
I’ll take a punt with 1 Grey Missile (Bet Now: $5.00). They tried to step him out in trip during the early part of the Carnival, but I think his record would suggest that 1200m-1300m is his sweet pot. His best is better than these, he likes wet ground, a recent trial was very encouraging and he has class, which will carry him a long way.
3 Beaufort Park (Bet Now: $4.00) is an absolute beauty for Les Kelly that resumes. He really put it together in the Winter/Spring, winning four on the bounce and each time he was most impressive in getting the job done. Tends to get better as the prep goes on, but can sprint well fresh and love a horse that goes out for a break on a high because usually they return with that high level of confidence.
5 Epic Girl (Bet Now: $10.00) looks well suited at this level. Was accepted for the Nudgee but was scratched pretty much as soon as acceptances were released to run here. Drops in grade/depth and in trip after racing in the Lough Neagh two weeks back when doing plenty of work to hold a forward spot and tiring late. Better suited here and an improved showing is on the cards.
Race 3. (14:33) Magic Millions (bm78) 1810m
I reckon the key to 6 Plumaro (Bet Now: $15.00) is finding genuine give in the track, so the forecast for rain would be music to the ears of Kevin Kemp and I think she can take this race out. Been a while between wins prior to last start at the Gold Coast where she found a bottomless track and lapped it up, spanking her rivals. Doubt we will get bottomless here, but track will have juice in it.
Up to 1800m I do like for the Symons/Laxon trained five year old 10 So Dapper (Bet Now: $9.50). Impressive all the way win two back at the Sunny Coast over the mile before going to Doomben where he led again and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off in a strong race won by Agassi. This race is a bit weaker, and do feel a rise in trip will suit.
8 Green Jacket (Bet Now: $17.00) is racing as if he’ll be okay at 1800m. Comes through the Agassi race from Doomben two weeks back. He was back near last in the run and never really threatened, but liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Agassi. finishing fourth. Rise to 1800m should be ideal and stable is in form.
Race 4. (15:08) Magic Millions Hcp 1200m
I’m with 1 Ranch Hand (Bet Now: $1.40). No prizes for finding him but I think he can make a statement towards the Magic Millions with a win here. He was outstanding when debuting with a sharp win at Warwick Farm last Wednesday, and ran sharp time in the process. He’s got loads of quality and upside, Nash steers, soft draw…should be winning.
5 Gleneagles (Bet Now: $5.00) does look to have the A1 form for this. Debuted in the Wyong Magic Millions where he was backed with confidence late and ran well, but was just no match for She’s All Class, who lived up to her name and thumped her rivals. She looks the early pick for the Magic Millions, so think that is the right form for this. Just depends if he can knock off the Waller colt.
11 Queen Of Wizardry (Bet Now: $15.00) is a very interesting runner. Annabel Neasham trained daughter of Not A Single Doubt that is on debut. Has had two trials in Sydney to get ready and has looked solid enough at each outing. Blinkers on for the debut signals intent and stable wouldn’t bring her up here for a holiday.
Race 5. (15:48) Magic Millions Insurance-bm75 1400m
15 Smart’N’Sexy (Bet Now: $3.20) up to 1400m looks a good recipe. Team Edmonds trained filly that resumed over 1200m at Doomben and on face value, she was pretty plain behind Pull Anchor, but I just think she needed the run. Fitter and up in trip, she does have quality and I think deserves another chance to bounce back.
6 Jetski (Bet Now: $6.00) is yet to prove himself at 1400m but with the new stable, he’s racing as if it will suit. Has had a couple of runs for the Sears camp, winning fresh at the Sunny Coast before racing here three weeks ago and working home well over 1300m behind Gee Tee Tee. Off that, 1400m should suit and has more upside than most.
Think this race will be a real guide as to where 2 Potro Duro (Bet Now: $13.00) is at for Team Edmonds. Has had two runs back from a spell, and really, he has done bugger all and failed to fire a shot, albeit in much stronger races than this. Drops to 75 grade, draws to get run of the race and if he’s going any good, he should go close.
Race 6. (16:28) Shoot Out Qlty 2206m
Happy to speck 10 Elaborate (Bet Now: $14.00) at a price with the likelihood of a wet track. Just got too far back at Randwick two weeks ago but liked the way he finished his race off against the pattern of the day behind the in form Gone Bye. Won’t know himself with 54kg and with a positive ride, I think he’ll run a big race, knowing that he has been set for the Magic Millions Stayers.
3 So You Win (Bet Now: $6.50) is yet to prove himself beyond 2000m, but he’s racing as if the 2200m here will be no drama. Very one paced when initially asked for an effort last time out at Doomben but picked up and was quite good late I thought behind Get Stuck In, beaten a couple of lengths. Should appreciate the extra ground. Been up a while but is holding his form.
8 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $26.00) is working up to something positive I feel. Good late two back behind So You Win before being ridden a touch warm at Doomben a fortnight ago and just didn’t quite finish it off well enough behind stablemate Get Stuck In. Think with a more conservative steer, he’ll be far more effective.
Race 7. (17:08) Vo Rogue Plate 1400m
Hard to get away from 8 Palladas (Bet Now: $6.50). Tony Gollan trained three year old that was somewhat disappointing two back at the Sunny Coast but he bounced back in a big way three weeks ago at Eagle Farm over 1400m, sitting off the speed before Rodd built up momentum with him to get clear air and away he went. He spanked them and think he will win again.
13 Gotta Kiss (Bet Now: $3.70) looks to have returned in really good order for the O’Dea/Hoysted team. She’s been good late in both runs back from a spell, the latest coming in the Mode Plate when warming to the task at the end, but clearly no match for Isotope. They are riding her cold to ensure she gets 1400m in the Guineas. I’d love to see her ridden positively here. That’s the only way she can win IMO.
Not giving up just yet on 9 Batangas Entry (Bet Now: $27.00). He resumed in the Gold Edition where he got back in the run and was never really a factor behind the two star fillies. Showed really good promise when last in work and I know trained Kelly Schweida does have a high opinion of him. One to include for multiples at big odds.
Race 8. (17:48) The Buffering 1400m
4 Chapter And Verse (Bet Now: $26.00) is teasing to win one. Was warming up late fresh in the George Moore before going to the Lough Neagh where he was back off the speed and again, warming to the task late behind impressive winner Soxagon. 1400m at Eagle Farm looks a great set up and think he’s worthy of an each way ticket.
5 Scallopini (Bet Now: $13.00) has had a couple of runs now at 1200m and is racing as if the 1400m will be ideal. Bit disappointed with his first up effort in the Keith Noud but he was a sneaky good run in the George Moore, finding the line nicely between runners nearer the inside. He’s crying out for more ground, which he gets here, and does have class.
1 Tyzone (Bet Now: $26.00) has the class and that will carry him a long way here. Resumed off a disappointing Sydney prep in the Lough Neagh where he was asked to lump 61kg and that weight impost just told on his finishing speed. Last time he was at this track/distance, he won the Stradbroke, so we know he has class.
Race 9. (18:25) Nudgee Stakes 1200m
7 Yes Baby Yes (Bet Now: $31.00) for me in the get out. Team Corstens trained filly that has her eyes on the Magic Millions Guineas. Hasn’t raced since leading throughout and bolting up to win the Fillies Classic on Cox Plate Day, with some help from the track bias. Recent Flemington jumpout was very good, she’ll roll forward from the wide gate and won’t mind a track with give in it.
16 Maozi (Bet Now: $21.00) is bursting to get a blacktype win next to her name and I think she gets a golden chance here. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1300m here in the Just Now when back, wide with cover, before peeling wider and unleashing a powerful finishing burst to just miss out on the win when beaten a lip by Alison Of Tuffy. Back to 1200m I like, should sit off a good speed and launch late.
13 Miss Iano (Bet Now: $35.00) is a sneaky chance. First run for Andrew Homann came at Doomben two weeks ago where she was backed with confidence at a price and the plunge almost came off, but she had to settle for a close up second to the in form Racecourse Road. Has run well at blacktype level previously, and 1110m to 1200m now looks a good set up.
