WA racing this Saturday continues at Belmont for an eight race card. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (14:28) Get The Tabtouch Maiden 1200m
Most of these are pretty unreliable but I will keep the faith with 5 Lighthouse Rock (Bet Now: $5.00). I think he had excuses when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back. Got held up between runners, the track was very shifty that day and the early bump he got may have just taken the stuffing out. Happy to overlook and give him the nod.
3 Saverioe (Bet Now: $4.20) is a lightly raced seven year old gelding for the Harvey camp that resumed from a 20 month break a fortnight back in the race mentioned above and his effort was excellent from the back behind Great Again. Second up syndrome maybe, but hard to ignore what he did.
Β 7 Multiverse (Bet Now: $12.00) is the watch horse here. Gary Crispin trained four year old that is first up here. Had two runs in the Autumn, starting off with a down the track effort at Pinjarra in a hot maiden before going to Ascot when running a game fourth to Night Beat in a race which has produced four subsequent winners. Trial win was sharp and he is bred to handle give in the ground.
Race 2. (15:04) Gary McGowan Plate 1300m
3 Miracle Man (Bet Now: $6.50) is a smart looking colt for the Adam Durrant yard who should measure up here and take some beating. He debuted a couple of Wednesdays back over this track/distance where he was appearing to be bolting under Pike before eventually shoving into the clear and savaging the line to win. Looks quite promising and happy to be with him.
2 Lob City (Bet Now: $4.60) is three weeks between runs since getting the job done over the 1400m here on a bottomless surface. Pike had the horse in the dream spot, sitting 1/1 and ready to pounce, which he did when asked. Back to 1300m is no issue, but the tricky gate might be. Still, a threat for sure.
7 Danes Maree (Bet Now: $4.50) should be forgiven for her failure a fortnight back here. Bogenhuber had the filly planted three and four wide no cover on a hot speed and that was the end of her, dropping out to run sixth, beaten two lengths, so the effort considering the run was enormous. Provided that hasn’t busted her, she’s right in this.
Race 3. (15:44) The Gate Bar & Bistro Handicap (66+) 2100m
4 Cougar Nights (Bet Now: $18.00) has reached his D-Day here. This run will tell us where he is at this time in because I think he has been going quite well over unsuitable trips. The last run was over 2000m here a fortnight back and he made ground from the back behind Jetoomy. Getting close to peak fitness and this is a very winnable race.
3 Caralabek (Bet Now: $4.40) is a six year old trained by Adam Durrant who is working towards a win and rates highly here. He comes through the Jetoomy race where he looked a little unlucky not to win, getting held up before eventually finding clear and flashing late to just miss. Looks an obvious threat.
7 Indi Pacific (Bet Now: $11.00) is the knockout hope. She just got too far back in the Jetoomy race from the sticky draw but I loved her final 200m where she really hit the line with purpose and had the flashing light as a coming winner. Draws to sit much closer in the run and I can see her being popular.
Race 4. (16:25) James Boags Premium Handicap (1MW) 1000m
3 Chin Strap (Bet Now: $4.50) is a four year old that is absolutely low flying at the moment for the Sean Casey yard. He is 38 days between runs since scoring a narrow win as a short priced elect at this track/distance at the midweeks. Harder here, but he does tend to race best on the fresh and he will like give in the track.
7 Invincible Warrior (Bet Now: $3.40) was a surprise drifter in betting when racing here a couple of Wednesdays back but aided by a sweet ride from Jason Brown, the four year old dashed to the front and was dominant late, being Zeinite, who came out and won on Wednesday, so the form reads well.
9 Just A Fluke (Bet Now: $8.00) was a notable drifter in the market when resuming at this track/distance two weeks ago and the market got it right, to an extent. He did get beat but not far, two lengths. Led at a solid tempo and kicked hard but condition gave out late. Should be stronger here and is a knockout chance.
Race 5. (17:04) Kingston Town Classic December 9 Handicap (1MW) 1400m
1 Big Caroline (Bet Now: $4.20) gets the nod for me in a tricky event. Talented mare for the Driagesco yard who has been racing quite well at the moment on heavy tracks, the latest coming last Saturday at this track/distance when a closing second to Double Digit. I think the firmer track won’t be a harm, and she is hard fit/in form.
11 Through The Glass (Bet Now: $7.50) is a progressive mare for the Adam Durrant yard who deserves a crack at Saturday grade. She ran over 1300m at Pinjarra 23 days and came with a brilliant finishing burst under Pike to gather them in late and score a narrow but impressive win. Confident she can measure up here.
7 In This Life (Bet Now: $26.00)is a Lindsey Smith trained mare that is first up here off a 75 day break. She last raced over the Northam mile where she was four wide no cover for the trip when finishing down the track behind Airlie Sun in a race where the form has been franked. She can win this on her best form so watch the market.
Race 6. (17:40) Winterbottom Stakes December 2 Handicap (1MW) 1400m
4 Cash On Call (Bet Now: $2.50) on top in what does look a two horse race. He was backed as if unbeatable when racing over 1300m here two weeks ago and once Pike gave him clear air, it looked all over but he failed to go on with it when a narrow second to Sharpbob. Should be at peak fitness now and is the one for mine.
7 Young Gina (Bet Now: $4.00) is an above average Duporth gelding first up for Team Williams. This gelding is unbeaten in two career outings, the latest coming in April at Ascot in a race which has produced four subsequent winners. His trial at Lark Hill recently was outstanding and he ticks the boxes for me.
3 Chasing Chaos (Bet Now: $12.00) comes through that Sharpbob race mentioned above and I thought his effort in defeat was quite sound. He did a stack of work in the run, sitting wide no cover for the trip and in the end was only beaten three lengths. Has to overcome a nasty gate again, but this time he gets really good weight relief.
Race 7. (18:15) WA Bookmakers Association Handicap (78+) 1650m
Hard to see anything other than a 3 Falcon Crest (Bet Now: $2.40) win. He is an absolute beauty for Team Williams. Resumed over 1400m here a fortnight back and while that was short of his pet trip, he was just far too classy for them and won quite convincingly. Can only improve off that and really, bad luck beats him.
8 Universal Law (Bet Now: $7.50) is a hard horse to follow/trust so I’ll include him here but it is getting close to D-Day. Not sure he was suited here fresh a fortnight back over 1200m behind Just Act Natural but he was still disappointing. He is a blacktype horse when at his best, so I wouldn’t drop off…yet.
6 Properantes (Bet Now: $7.50) is the knockout chance. This Colin Webster trained mare would have gone close to challenging Falcon Crest for the win mentioned above but he just had no luck in the straight and went around as if it was a barrier trial. If he gets any kind of better luck, he’ll take some beating.
Race 8. (18:50) Inglis Bloodstock Leading Trainer Handicap (72+) 1300m
9 Helms Gate (Bet Now: $7.00) for me in the get out. This horse can be a bit hit and miss at times but when he is right, he is certainly up to these. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he couldn’t pick his feet up on the heavy track behind Kensington Abbey. Hoping the rain clears and the track dries out.
6 My Greek Boy (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Steve Wolfe trained gelding that resumed a fortnight back over 1200m here where he looked to control things nicely on speed under McGruddy and kicked hard for a few strides but condition just gave out late behind Just Act Natural. Looks the leader here and has a really good second up record.
2 Settlers Creek (Bet Now: $13.00) is a very consistent type for the Colin Webster yard who should be forgiven for his first up failure here behind Falcon Crest because he is an absolute dud when he gets his toe in. He will be hoping big time that the track can dry out. That is his only chance of winning here.
