Race One (15:29) : Race One: Tabtouch On Facebook Handicap (72+) 2200m:
Back Me: 2 The Forgotten One (Bet Now: $2.70) is a stayer in a real purple patch of form at the moment for the Durrant/Miller yard. He ran over 2150m at this track a fortnight back where he had a charmed run and was just far too good for his rivals. Bit more depth here but hard to knock the way he is racing.
Big Danger: 6 Our Mate Al (Bet Now: $3.70) is the interesting runner. Dominant win on Cup Day before racing over 1400m here last Saturday where he sat back off the pace and produced a lovely turn of foot to win in sharp fashion. Up to 2200m is the issue, but if he does run the trip out, his turn of foot will be superior to anything else engaged here.
Long Shot: 4 Fulgur (Bet Now: $61.00) comes through the The Forgotten One race where he sat off the speed and just whacked away without threatening. The start prior was an absolute beauty and on that run, he is a place chance. But keep in mind it’s been a long time since he has won.
Race Two (16:04) : Amelia Park Handicap (1MW) 1100m:
Back Me: He isn’t one of my favourites but I’ve landed with 2 Roger The Roman (Bet Now: $3.10) here in a very tough race. He ran over 1000m on Cup Day here and worked home with real purpose late to run a close up second. He will get back and charge late but hopefully he doesn’t give away too much of a start.
Big Danger: 6 Tommy Who (Bet Now: $4.40) is a handy galloper that resumes for the Williams yard. He did perform well at the provincials before ending the prep with a failure at Belmont but he looked to race like a tired horse. Draws wide but Pike steers.
Long Shot: 9 Prime Witness (Bet Now: $4.60) is a progressive mare that resumes here for Jim Taylor. She performed well last time in and was overall quite consistent. Trial leading in was quite okay for my liking and she can sprint well fresh and the stable usually fires this time of the year.
Race Three (16:44) : Presets Performing Perth Cup Handicap (72+) 1000m:
Back Me: 5 Furious Dame (Bet Now: $4.00) is one of the faster horses in Perth at the moment and her efforts this time in have been tidy. She ran over 1100m here a fortnight back where she sat on speed and fought on very well. Back to 1000m is a big tick and Pike steers. Ticks a lot of boxes.
Long Shot: 11 The River (Bet Now: $6.00) is an interesting galloper here. Three year old that takes on the older horses but drops in grade after contesting Stakes races this time in. He was one of the premier juveniles from last season but this is a winnable race if he finds his best.
Long Shot: If the track remains to have give in it, 2 Stratumsphere (Bet Now: $51.00) is one horse who could certainly be included in wider multiples and perhaps a small each way investment. First run for the Warwick stable after formerly being with Darren Weir and he has been tuned up with a couple of solid trials. $51 seems a crazy price for a proven city winner.
Race Four (17:24) : Mumm Champagne Handicap (66+) 1500m:
Back Me: 7 Cronkite (Bet Now: $3.50) is a talented Williams runner that comes here after winning his opening three runs this prep before running over 1400m here a fortnight back where he got a long way back in the run and worked home hard late. Extra 100m suits and Pike is back on. Good enough for me.
Big Danger: 9 Mosseratti (Bet Now: $10.00) just got too far back when resuming at Geraldton before racing in that above race mentioned above where he got long way back again and finished off strongly late to run a close up second. He has enormous upside and he draws to get a cheap run just nearer the tempo.
Long Shot: 11 Boom Boom Bang (Bet Now: $21.00) started surprisingly good odds last week at Bunbury but gee despite that price, he was quite impressive and won with a fair bit left in the tank I suspect. Draws a lovely gate, has upside and D Lane steers.
Race Five (18:00) : Tabtouch Placid Ark Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Where’s Wally (Bet Now: $3.20) is a talented gelding that resumes here after a fruitful opening prep which saw him win a couple of races in town. Resumes in a Stakes race, which isn’t easy, but his trial win was quite sharp. Prepared to take a gamble on him here.
Big Danger: 11 Precious Memories (Bet Now: $12.00) ran over 1000m here three weeks back and she finished off her race with real purpose late to run second to the low flying and above average filly Sweet Ora. She is definitely looking for further, which she gets here, and she will be strong late.
Long Shot: I thought 6 Chaser (Bet Now: $17.00) was near a good thing when resuming here on Cup Day but he let me down badly and didn’t really fire a shot at all. That was at 1100m so the rise to 1200m will suit and the trial win prior was too good to ignore. I’m giving him another chance despite the class rise.
Race Six (18:35) : Carbine Club Of WA Stakes 1400m:
Back Me: Giving 10 Universal Law (Bet Now: $6.00) another look here. He is on the back up after racing here over the mile last Saturday where he got back in the ruck and finished off with real purpose late to run a close up second to Pounamu. Back in trip is no issue I think, he has quality and he will be strong late.
Big Danger: 11 Special Delivery (Bet Now: $7.00) resumed in the York Cup where she was well supported and looked to going sweetly in the run but she had to settle for a close up second to Django. She should take good improvement off that and her form from last prep reads very well for this.
Long Shot: 1 Bass Strait (Bet Now: $12.00) comes through the Peters last Saturday where he produced one of his best runs since joining the Parnham stable from the Hayes/Dabernig yard. He had the dream sit off the speed and chased hard all the way but was held by Scales Of Justice. Back 100m in trip appears perfect, draws a soft gate and the compressed weights scale suits him.
Race Seven (19:15) : Sky Racing WA Guineas 1600m:
Back Me: 5 Get Over It (Bet Now: $8.50) looks one of many threats here. He comes through the Fairetha (1400m) a fortnight back where he had a nice sit just off the pace before ducking back to the inside where he didn’t quite appear to appreciate racing in such a tight spot but was good to the line and through the line he was clearly in front so the 1600m is a big tick and I think if he can get in the clear away and outside horses, he’ll let down hard.
Big Danger: 1 Saul’s Special (Bet Now: $7.50) was the winner of that Fairetha and he was ridden a treat by Brad Parnham to win that race mentioned above, sitting just off the speed before pouncing at the right and showing a lovely turn of foot. Barrier makes life very hard, but he is just about the pick of the locals and there is upside.
Long Shot: 6 Lusaha (Bet Now: $11.00) probably lacks the class of stablemate Saul’s Special but gee he has a bit of ticker about him. Savaged the line to win over 1200m here at the midweeks before going to the Fairetha where he sat outside the speed and was seemingly the first horse off the bit but he just kept finding and was only beaten a half length by Saul’s Special. 1600m is no issue for mine, he’s hard fit and in super form, plus he wants to find the line, a great attribute for a young horse.
Race Eight (20:00) : James Boags Premium Railway Stakes 1600m:
Back Me: 7 Mackintosh (Bet Now: $6.50) comes through the Cantala on Derby Day where I think he perhaps raced a touch too close to the speed and it was a day where wind was a factor, so his effort in defeat was solid. He is much better when he has a bunny to chase and I think if that eventuates here, he will take a stack of beating.
Big Danger: 6 Perfect Reflection (Bet Now: $4.60) won the Lee Steere and it was a peach steer from Pike that got the mare home. There was a bit of an unknown about her after a failed stint under Darren Weir during the Autumn but that win confirmed she is back to the form that saw her beat gun mare Delicacy in the Kingston Town last year. Gets a lovely weight drop here and does meet Kawi significantly better at the weights, so it’s easy to see why she is at the top of the betting.
Long Shot: I’m really surprised that $13+ is offered for the kiwi superstar that is 1 Kawi (Bet Now: $21.00). He has been quickly dismissed by most after running fourth in the Lee Steere (1400m) but keep in mind he had to chase the tearaway leader Pornichet and dragged the field up to him, and once he put that horse away, it was left to three horses with the sit behind him to pounce. He is a much better horse when he has a bunny to chase, and I think if that can eventuate here, he’ll take a stack of beating. The price is too good to dismiss.
Race Nine (20:40) : Crown Perth Jungle Mist Classic 1200m:
Back Me: 3 Cosmic Storm (Bet Now: $7.00) is a talented mare that resumes for the Williams camp. She showed good promise when last in work, winning a couple of races and performing well at blacktype level. Trials leading in have been sharp and she does sprint well fresh. Happy to be in her corner.
Big Danger: 1 Let It Slip (Bet Now: $3.40) ran over this track/distance three weeks back and I thought her effort in defeat was very good, running a close up third to State Solicitor. That horse is a rising star and won again last week, so that form reads well and this mare returns to her own sex.
Long Shot: 6 Silverstream (Bet Now: $12.00) is a class mare who hasn’t raced in an easier race for some time. She was heading towards the Group l events but she just isn’t quite up to that level. Not sure how well she is going, but if she is anywhere near night, she would just about knock this field off.
