A really strong nine race card has been assembled for Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:27) Worldwide Printing Hamilton Handicap 1000m
I like the look of 4 Bigboyroy (Bet Now: $6.00) for Chris Waller. He is a son of Dissident on debut who comes here off the back of a 1000m trial a couple of weeks back at Deagon where he was on speed and wasn’t really touched by Fradd when a narrow second. Looks to be a handy type and a fast run 1000m looks as if it will be fine for him, so I’ll lean his way.
8 Epaumada (Bet Now: $2.60) should be popular. This Tony Gollan trained filly was backed with confidence when debuting over 860m at Gatton last Tuesday and under Brad Stewart, she won as if it was a barrier trial. Gollan did give the filly a good push prior to the debut and the 1000m should be no issue. If this was at Doomben, she wins, but the long Eagle Farm straight will leave her a sitting shot for those in behind.
Huge watch on 5 Icelander (Bet Now: $4.80). Was really keen on this horse as a Magic Millions contender prior to his debut on November 3 at Doomben but unfortunately he got caught wide no cover on a fast speed and dropped out. Tipped out and looked very good in a Doomben trial. Beaten several lengths but was under a good hold. Can easily win this without surprising.
Race 2. (14:02) Silks Ascot Plate (Class 3) 1000m
10 Showus Ya Diamonds (Bet Now: $9.50) is an above average daughter of Time Thief resuming for Barry Lockwood. This girl hasn’t raced since May 6 when starting long odds on and doing a great job to win given she spotted those in front a tidy start on the turn. Resumes with a lovely Deagon trial under the belt but I think the market will tell you how she’s going, especially with this stable.
This race does look an idea kicking off point for 12 River Racer (Bet Now: $1.75) but gee she’s getting very short for a mare who has only won the two from 22, albeit she has contested some solid company throughout her career. Usually sprints well fresh and has been tuned up for her return with a two trials, the latest when winning nicely at Deagon. Class will carry her a long way.
4 Masterati (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Master Of Design gelding for Steve O’Dea who is first up. He hasn’t raced since November 10 when running a close up fifth to Brax at the Sunny Coast. Better suited over further, but looked sharp in a trial win, he draws a soft gate and the stable is going quite well with their first up runners in recent times. Knockout chance.
Race 3. (14:37) Artisan Clinics Handicap 1200m
5 Star Reflection (Bet Now: $2.05) is flying for Kris Lees. Got her favoured conditions two back to win at Randwick at massive odds, beating the above average Seasons. The mare then went to the Gold Coast and just about threw the race away, but she just held on. If we got a wet track here, she’d be a good thing, but even on a dry track, she’s definitely one of the hardest to beat.
4 Snoopy (Bet Now: $4.40) can certainly win this if he’s anywhere near right. Solid resumption in the Keith Noud behind Most Important before dropping back to Class 6 grade over 1000m here where he was on speed and fought on quite well behind Awesome Pluck. Gets massive weight relief this time around and does seem to save his best for when he’s produced fresh.
8 Paradis Imperial (Bet Now: $27.00) is a North Queensland visitor for Tony McMahon who comes to town again but has run well at metro level before. She last ran at Rockhampton where she ran her usual honest race when third to Barachiel, who is one of the form runners at the moment in that part of the world. Down in the weights with Bubba Tilley aboard, she will run well as she always does.
Race 4. (15:12) Harcourts Experience Ascot Handicap (80) 2206m
Keen here on the Kris Lees trained 4 High Power (Bet Now: $4.50). Was keen on him when he raced over 2200m at the Gold Coast two weeks back and I think he was a little unlucky not to win. But the winner Evolo did do a stack of work in the run and did a great job to win, but High Power was a tad unlucky on the turn when wanting to get clear air and build the revs. If he gets that clear air here, he should be too good.
3 Kay Kay Boy (Bet Now: $4.50) is the unknown. The best version of this horse would see him spank this field, but where is he at? Really poor rides from both Jamie Kah and Michael Murphy (Prioritise) in the Brisbane Handicap two back before backing up in the Bernborough where he was wide no cover, pressed forward, and faded out of the finish. Perhaps the drop in depth/grade will see him bounce back into the winners list.
14 Korodon (Bet Now: $20.00) has been racing in pretty good form recently for Chris Waller. He hasn’t raced for around six weeks since racing over 2000m at Doomben in a heat of the Origin Jockey Series where he was given a 12/10 steer from D Browne but bumped into Lucky Captain. Been kept on ice since and the tick over trial at Deagon last Tuesday was quite encouraging.
Race 5. (15:52) Ascot Accounting Handicap (70) 1600m
If someone could contact Michael Van Gerwen and get him and a dartboard to sort this race out, that would be ideal. I’ll go the way of 18 She’s Reliable (Bet Now: $11.00). This girl was six weeks between runs when racing over 1400m at the Sunny Coast where she settled back in a slowly run race and couldn’t dash well enough. Big track, 1600m, fitter…she’s got the talent to beat these…hopefully she can show it.
16 Pierre Bizel (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Sebring for Stuart Kendrick who has got two solid 1600m runs under the belt, both on his home track at the Sunny Coast, the latest one when held up before getting clear and finishing hard late to just miss out on the win. The run prior to those efforts, he was outclassed in town, but this race looks much easier, so I think he’s a definite chance.
8 Meteorologist (Bet Now: $26.00) is an interesting one. Handy stayer for Marcus Wilson who resumes. He hasn’t raced since October 20 at Doomben when down the track over 2000m behind Galtero. Can sprint well fresh, he’s suited on big tracks…he’ll get back but I think if the tempo is more than genuine, he’ll be strong at the end and is one to include in multiples.
Race 6. (16:32) Hamilton Reach Handicap 1200m
The Currie stable hasn’t exactly been firing this season when it comes to the Saturday metro meets, but I think they can continue on from Mr Markou last Saturday with 1 Mishani Hustler (Bet Now: $2.30), who does look very well placed. He was confidently backed when resuming in the Falvelon where he did work to get on speed and tried hard but just folded late behind Fiery Heights, and that form was ticked off big time last Saturday. If he’s come through that okay, he should be an odds on chance and win. If he drifts out to $4+, then I’d be concerned.
3 Viral (Bet Now: $5.00) has the A1 form on the board and has to be respected. Bolted up two back at the Gold Coast before contesting the Vo Rogue at Doomben where he found the line nicely when fourth to Boomsara. That form clearly franked in the Magic Millions Guineas last Saturday. Reads well for a 3YO handicap here and back to 1200m looks ideal.
5 Ramtastic (Bet Now: $4.20) is a son of Sepoy for Kelly Schweida who has won two of his three career outings. Impressive debut winner at Doomben before finishing second there next start. He then went to Beaudesert for the kill and despite copping pressure in front, he was far too good for his rivals. 1200m and more depth are the concerns, but he looks a likely type.
Race 7. (17:12) Menkens Finance Handicap 1600m
3 Aqua Vite (Bet Now: $6.50) on top in a tricky race. The Scott Morrisey trained gelding has been around the mark of late and comes here with an excellent run under the belt, that run being at the Gold Coast where he ran a game second to Prioritise. Back to the mile looks perfect, should get a lovely run from the gate and he’ll be strong late I’m sure, hopefully with clear air.
If this was 2000m, I’d be declaring 4 Emphasis (Bet Now: $5.50). He’s definitely working up to another win. He ran over 1800m at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago and worked to the line strongly when a close up third to Prioritise. Back in trip is the negative, but he should love the spacious surroundings Eagle Farm has to offer and will be one of the strongest on the line.
6 Ingeegoodbe (Bet Now: $12.00) looks to have come back in good order. This Rob Heathcoate trained galloper resumed at Doomben last Wednesday over the 1350m and worked to the line nicely when second to impressive winner and the heavily backed Apoloboom. Not the greatest of second up records, but the resumption was solid enough and I’m respecting him here.
Race 8. (17:47) One Fifty Ascot Bar Plate (Class 6) 1200m
4 Pressway (Bet Now: $10.00) is a talented animal for Steve O’Dea who is first up. He hasn’t raced since August 25 at the Sunny Coast when finishing midfield behind Prioritise and racing like a tired horse. Been given a good break and his trial at Doomben a couple of weeks back was really good. Sprints well fresh usually and does have a touch of class with him.
Expecting a much improved showing from 8 My Girl Hayley (Bet Now: $3.50). She resumed over 1000m here four weeks ago where she ran along in front at a pretty good clip and just ran out of puff late when fifth to the above average Awesome Pluck. Not quite as dynamic second up but IMO is much better suited at 1200m, should lead these and give a great sight.
11 Jetsonic (Bet Now: $9.00) is an absolute tease for Tony Gollan but he’s certainly got the finale to figure in the finish if he gets conditions to suit. He ran over 1000m here four weeks ago where he got a mile back in the run and finished off nicely behind the in form Awesome Pluck. Maybe stepping up to 1200m will suit him? Not sure, but I’d certainly include him in exotics.
Race 9. (18:25) TAB Handicap (80) 1400m
This looks an ideal assignment for 9 Looks Like Elvis (Bet Now: $9.50) to bounce back into the winners list. He was outstanding here here two back behind Cadogan in what has turned out to be a red hot form reference. He then ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago and closed off well from the back behind Star Reflection. I think riding him cold is the key, so if that eventuates, he should go close.
I think 4 Bluebrook (Bet Now: $4.60) is a major threat here against this lot. Kelly Schweida trains this gelding, who comes here off the back of a ripping effort in the Bernborough when closing off well without really threatening when third to Bergerac. That was blacktype company. Think this looks well within his reach off that effort. Just has to overcome a sticky draw.
11 Brains (Bet Now: $6.00) is absolutely flying for Tony Gollan I think. Trialled up enormous prior to resuming over 1200m at Doomben three weeks ago where he got back in the ruck before getting clear air out wide and finishing hard to score, and that form has been franked via Ignite The Light. Bigger track and 1400m look positives, so he has to be respected.
