19/1/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Miss Andretti Stakes day

The Ascot Carnival might be over but there is still some feature racing to be conducted, including this Saturday with the Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) the drawcard on the right race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

13 True Image (Bet Now: $3.60) should get away with this maiden. Talented mare for Adam Durrant that resumes. Had two runs in the Winter at Belmont to kick off her career, debuting with a second to King Blitz before looking flat next time and being tipped out. Both maidens have turned out to be good form references and her Lark Hill looked sharp and the clock agreed.

10 Friar’s Classic (Bet Now: $7.50) is on the quick back up for Neville Parnham after racing at Bunbury on Sunday where she was just off the speed and looked to travel well under Parnham but overall, you’d have to mark her down as disappointing because she was there to win but couldn’t go on with it. Hasn’t been far away of late and potentially gets her chance here.

3 Just Too Hot (Bet Now: $34.00) is an Adam Fairey trained gelding who is having his tenth career outing but has shown enough to suggest a win isn’t far away. Ran over 1200m at Pinjarra last start and closed off alright I thought in behind Picasso Bay, beaten under a length. Tricky gate to overcome, and back 100m in trip, but should be strong late if things fall into place.

She’s still a maiden but I like 10 Fairview (Bet Now: $12.00). Sean Casey trains this filly, who ran over 1100m here four weeks ago and closed off well nearer the inside when second to Market Ruler, a filly who is flying at the moment. That looks the A1 form for this and up to 1200m looks ideal. Was three weeks between runs and back in trip so she looks extremely hard to beat.

3 Final Hearing (Bet Now: $2.70) is a son of Reset resuming for Team Williams. This three year old hasn’t been seen since the Carnival in the Fairetha when down the track behind The Velvet King. Been given a little time off and the tick over trial at Lark Hill was pretty good. Has a touch of class/quality about him and a fast run 1200m should be right up his alley.

11 Henty Gal (Bet Now: $17.00) looks a talented filly for Michael Lane. Still a maiden after three starts but has shown good promise each time she has stepped out, her latest run being over 1400m at Bunbury back in late November when wide no cover yet still finding the line well to run second. Sharp trial win a couple of weeks back and coming straight to town looks a good lead.

Tricky race with a bit of depth but have landed with 1 Royal Statue (Bet Now: $1.45). He’s low flying at the moment for Adam Durrant and up in trip looks ideal. Ran over the mile here last start and charged home from off the pace to run a narrow second to Double Digit. Weight relief, upside…remaining at the mile is the issue but happy to be in his corner.

5 Let’s Twist (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Statue Of Liberty mare for Team Pearce who won well here two back before racing at the mile and running a solid enough fifth to Double Digit, just lacking a turn of foot when the sprint went on. Tempo should be more genuine this time around and she will be strong late I’m sure if that eventuates. Definite threat against this lot.

I reckon 7 War Jeune (Bet Now: $16.00) is nearing a win. He has had two runs back from a spell for Steve Wolfe, both on his home track at Albany, and I thought his latest run was an absolute beauty after settling a mile back in the run. Good third up record, has placed 3/7 at Ascot and if they go hard in front, he could well have last say at potentially silly odds.

6 Crystal Valley (Bet Now: $3.30) is absolutely bursting to win a race for Colin Webster but she keeps finding one or two better. Comes through the Thisaway race from three weeks ago where she was wide with cover, and keen, but still kept surging and just missing out on picking up the eventual winner. 2100m is the little query, but hard to knock the way she’s going. Just needs a win on the board.

2 Magical Charm (Bet Now: $3.80) is on the quick back up for the Adam Durrant after racing over 1690m at Bunbury on Sunday where she was a little unlucky, getting held up in the straight when appearing to have something to offer when fourth to the in form Time To Hunt. Back up to a staying trip is a big tick for her and she’s in the right stable, so a definite threat.

4 Awesome As (Bet Now: $8.50) could be a sneaky chance here at odds. She comes through the La Trice Classic on New Years Day where she had the suck run nearer the inside and battled away quite well in defeat behind Celebrity Dream, who would be odds on against this lot. That form surely has to read well for this. Definite winning chance against these.

I want to give 10 Western King (Bet Now: $4.40) another chance. Really good resumption behind Invisible Pro before racing over this track/distance three weeks ago where he just looked to get too far back in the run and was never really likely behind Avidus. Did pull a fraction in the run as well so he’s a bit new to the caper still but has shown enough to suggest he can pick up a race like this.

2 Rising Sea (Bet Now: $7.50) looks a big improver. He ran over the mile here a fortnight ago in a much stronger race and I thought he more than held his own without a lot of luck in the straight behind Double Digit. Clear drop in depth for him here and he does seem to race best when out of trouble on speed. Hopefully that can eventuate here for his supporters.

6 Mongolian Warlord (Bet Now: $13.00) isn’t far off a win for Steve Wolfe. Three runs back from a spell have come at Albany, the latest when closing off nicely from off the pace to run second to Chasing Chaos. Yet to be really proven in town, but this isn’t the strongest of races going around, he draws well, hard fit and at his best, he’s capable for sure.

She’s creeping up in the weights is 3 Misty Metal (Bet Now: $2.20), but she’s just got brilliant sustained speed from the front and it’s hard to ignore her. Ran in the Summer Scorcher a fortnight ago where she was well supported and the punters got it spot on as she led all the way and bolted in. Bit more depth and up in the weights, but she’s just so reliable at the moment.

7 Gee Boss (Bet Now: $5.50) is the interesting one. Michael Lane trains this galloper, who sat outside Misty Metal in the Summer Scorcher and seemed to have his chance, tiring late. Two schools of thought: 1) He’s not up to this level or 2) He was a few weeks between runs and needed the hit out. I’m thinking potentially option two but I wouldn’t want to be taking anything silly short. $5+ I’d want before backing him.

9 Just Act Natural (Bet Now: $9.50) is a son of Natural Blitz for Paul Roberts that is first up. This bloke hasn’t raced for around 11 months, his last run being a solid fourth in the Pinjarra Classic behind Battle Hero. He can sprint well fresh and his trial win at Bunbury over a month ago was electric. Certainly capable if right so he’s a huge yard/market watch.

2 Fontainebleu (Bet Now: $2.90) should just about be winning. Quality mare for Lindsey Smith who contested a couple of mares races and ran really well, highlighted by winning the Starstruck before a game second to Celebrity Dream in the La Trice. Those dreaded Bar Plates are off, which is always a good sign that the horse is in good health and she’s got class.

9 Reveille (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t really had much luck of late so hopefully the tide turns for her fans. Ran in the Double Digit race from two weeks ago and you could make a case she should have won. Looked to travel well nearer the inside but had no room til the final 100m when the race was all over but she surged hard. Up in trip is ideal and is a definite threat.

7 Mosserati (Bet Now: $26.00) is nearing a win for Cliff Green. He looks to have come back in super order and has already run a couple of ripping races, the last start over 2200m here when a narrow fourth to the in form Mr Alby. Back in trip the niggle but if it’s last man standing, he’ll come to the fore I’m sure and is a clear knockout chance at odds. Has to be included.

6 Double Jeopardy (Bet Now: $3.00) is absolutely flying for the Pearce team. Just missed out on the win first up when beaten narrowly by Dam Ready before being freshened up and racing over 1100m here where he was four wide no cover throughout and did a mighty job to get as close as he did when beaten a lip by Disruptive. 1200m third up, he’s ready to rock and roll.

7 Mikimoto (Bet Now: $3.30) could well be the best horse racing in Australia on Saturday. Very exciting mare for Adam Durrant that finally returns to racing, having not raced since the 2017 Carnival. Finally back after the extended break and her Lark Hill trial was outstanding, and from all reports, Bob Peters is pleased with how she has done since. Would not be surprised if she measured up at Group l level during the Perth Carnival later in the year. The gate is just the negative that puts me off.

5 Star Glitter (Bet Now: $18.00) looks to have come back in great order for Neville Parnham. Resumed with a close up third to Fine Scent before having no luck last time in a bunched finish behind Disruptive. Has a great record third up and does save his best for Ascot. Doubt he wins, but he has to be included in multiples for sure given how well he’s going.
