Blacktype racing returns to Queensland and the Gold Coast this Saturday where it is Goldmarket Day. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race One (13:02) : A&T Trading Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Shogun Gun (Bet Now: $5.50) is on the quick back up for theKelly Schweida camp after racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm on Monday where he was given a peach of a ride by Colless, finding the best ground near the outside fence and finishing off hard to win. Quick back ups on wet tracks are always a good recipe for success, and stable wouldn’t run unless he has come through it well.
Big Danger: 7 Miss Exfactor (Bet Now: $1.60) ran second to Houtzen on debut at Eagle Farm two weeks back and she gave the star filly a real race, challenging strongly until about the 250m, and then the class of the Slipper favourite kicked in. On that run, she has to be rated highly here. My worry is that how strong will she be at 1200m.
Long Shot: 1 Chief Havoc (Bet Now: $12.00) is a well bred colt that debuts for the Birchley camp. Hasn’t had an official trial, but breed suggests he will get through the going okay, he draws a lovely gate and Browne being booked could well be a positive lead.
Race Two (13:38) : Moco Meats Plate (Class 3) 1800m:
Back Me: 7 Lieder (Bet Now: $2.90) looks a leading contender here for the O’Dea camp after racing over the Eagle Farm mile a couple of weeks back where he was given a peach by Browne and it really deserved the win but he couldn’t quite get the job done and was beaten a lip. I think this scenario looks ideal and the Gold Coast track should suit.
Big Danger: 9 Positive Problems (Bet Now: $2.35) ticks alot of boxes here and has to be rated highly. Comes through a 1600m race on a bottomless Warwick Farm surface where she just lacked the turn of foot to go with the well performed Supply And Demand. Significant drop in depth here, maps well and gets Cassidy steering. Hard to beat.
Long Shot: 5 Davor (Bet Now: $41.00) is on the quick back up after racing over this track/distance last Saturday in a four horse field where he had the 1/1 sit and pretty much just had too good of a turn of foot. Clearly much harder here, but this is his home track, he has winning form, and is hard fit.
Race Three (14:15) : Cracker Barrell Handicap (75) 2200m:
Back Me: 6 Three Points (Bet Now: $3.70) is a bit of a non winner, but he has the right form on the board to take this out. He ran over 2400m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he was given a peach of a steer by Lloyd and the ride really deserved the win but he was nailed right on the peg by Bronte Babe. Back to 2200m suits, and I think the smaller track will aid his winning claims.
Big Danger: 4 Lightning Bell (Bet Now: $8.50) is a galloper racing in super form at the moment for the Kelso Wood yard. He ran over 2000m at Doomben a couple of Wednesdays back where he had a charmed run behind the speed and when presented, it was game over and despite not putting a margin on them, he still won. Unknown on heavy ground, but gets Griffin steering and he has been cleaning up the Coast in recent weeks.
Long Shot: 11 Endless Don (Bet Now: $8.50) is a real plodder, but he keeps on keeping at the same tempo and tries hard, as we saw in the Bronte Babe race at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he was under pressure a fair way out and looked gone but he fought on strongly and was only beaten a half length. Good record here and he is hard fit/in form.
Race Four (14:55) : Simplot Food Services Handicap (75) 900m:
Back Me: 6 Dylan’s Luck (Bet Now: $4.60) for me here in an open affair. He ran over 1000m at Toowoomba last time out where he wasn’t really given the best of steers by the apprentice and had more to offer when fourth to Isis Magic. Impressive winner at this track/distance the start prior and should take some beating.
Big Danger: 4 Land Office (Bet Now: $3.20) is a handy sprinter that resumes for the Steele Ryan camp. Ran some really good races during the Winter/Spring, the latest being a second to Pepperano, who went on to win the Subzero during Cup Week. No trials. But goes well fresh and this is a very winnable race.
Long Shot: 7 Alpine Dragon (Bet Now: $51.00) is a speed demon trained by Colt Prosser who is always up near the pace and is a fighter. He ran over 1000m at Grafton last time out where he sat near the lead and gave a good kick but just tired late. 900m around the tight track here looks perfect and he will give a great sight at a price.
Race Five (15:35) : Perfect Italiano Plate (Class 6) 1400m:
Back Me: 8 Delightful Feeling (Bet Now: $7.50) clearly on top for me here. He comes through the Grafton Country Championship Qualifier where he got back in the run and was never really a winning threat but ran on okay late behind stablemate Perfect Dare. This looks a more winnable assignment and should take some holding out.
Big Danger: 9 Makeadane (Bet Now: $9.50) resumed over 1200m at Doomben a couple of Wednesday’s back where he was near the tail of the field on a leaders track and I thought he worked home well late in the piece behind the well performed Always Sacred. Does race well second up and the speed engaged here will be strong enough for him to get his chance.
Long Shot: 14 Charcuterie (Bet Now: $21.00) resumes here for Kelso Wood after racing just once in the Spring, which came in late November where he worked home well late behind Zero Tolerance. On his day, he is a definite Saturday metro class horse and I’ll be interested to see what the market does with him.
Race Six (16:22) : Moco Food Services Gold Coast Stakes 1800m:
Back Me: Keen to give 11 Hi Son (Bet Now: $17.00) another look here. He ran over 2200m at Doomben last Saturday where he probably wasn’t given the best of steers in the run. He got into a pocket and that is not his go. He needs to get rolling with clear running and if that can eventuate here, he will go close and represents value.
Big Danger: 9 Fast Arrow (Bet Now: $8.50) is a horse in ripping form at the moment for the Mick Mair. He comes here off the back of a dominant win at this track/distance where he was given a peach by Griffin and the horse pulled away late. Bit more depth here, but how can you ignore the form he is in.
Long Shot: 14 Kalandula (Bet Now: $21.00) has home ground advantage and will be suited by the rise in trip after racing over the mile at Ipswich last time out where she didn’t look entirely happy around the tight circuit but once she balanced up, gee she was good late behind Capetown Hussey, who ran a beauty at Doomben last weekend. I think she can measure up here.
Race Seven (17:02) : Carbine Club Of Queensland Goldmarket 1200m:
Back Me: The pace looks very strong here so the horse that could get the suck run behind is 8 Hi I’m Back (Bet Now: $9.50). He won that race mentioned above where he did work on speed with the big weight and looked beat but he kept fighting and clung on. Gets really good weight relief here and if he can stalk the speed, he’ll take some holding out back up to 1200m.
Big Danger: 5 In His Stride (Bet Now: $8.50) is probably the best horse in the race but the distance is the issue. I think he will be better suited over 1400m but he has a booming finish on him, as we saw during the Summer. Not the best horse when produced fresh but he will get back and launch late.
Long Shot: 13 I’m Alone (Bet Now: $26.00) is on the seven day back up after racing at Doomben last Saturday where he got a long way back in the run and closed off strongly nearer the inside when a close up third to Lucky Tom. Rises sharply in grade/depth here, but he is hard fit, in good form and as I said, the speed will be hot, so he’ll get his chance to run on. Looks good overs at $26.
Race Eight (17:40) : Moco Seafood Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Tyzone (Bet Now: $3.10) is a ripper for the Lawrie Mayfield-Smith team. Had his first run for the stable at Eagle Farm three weeks back against the older horses where he was given a charmed run by Colless and the horse dashed right away for quite a dominant win. Never runs a bad race and this looks well within his grasp.
Big Danger: 8 Our Beebee (Bet Now: $4.80) had late backing by the punters when resuming over 1000m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back and gee she showed a lovely turn of foot when asked by Bek Williams to draw right away and win with a bit left in reserve to my eye. Her only 1200m run she placed behind Winning Rupert. That’s good enough for this.
Long Shot: 16 Jadentom (Bet Now: $12.00) is the very interesting runner here. Has only had the two starts for the Lindsay Hatch yard, the latest being a 7.5L romp of her rivals in a Toowoomba maiden. Temptation would have been there to keep going, but they have kept her on ice with perhaps an eye towards the Carnival. Big watch here.
