Nine races will be run and won at Ipswich on Saturday where it is Gai Waterhouse Classic Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Bludger of a race to start the meeting. I’ll go the way of 3 Ready For Magic (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) for the Rob Heathcoate team. He ran in the Tatts Club two weeks ago when on speed and tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Plutocrat. Jim Byrne said post race the horse didn’t relax, so blinkers come off, should land near the speed and if he does relax, he’ll see the trip and prove hard to beat.

6 Nicks (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) should love the 1666m here. Stuart Kendrick trained filly that debuted over 1200m and was okay late behind Igor before going to 1400m at the Sunny Coast where she sat back off the speed before peeling into clear air and loved the way she went through her gears to get up and win. Extra ground suits and has plenty of upside to come.

5 Mandeville Rocker (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) is suited up in trip. Debuted with a win over 1400m before coming back to 1350m at Doomben where he got back and finished off okay without threatening in an on pace dominated race. Think going up in trip should suit this son of El Roca and this race, overall, is thin, so he gets respect.

3 Top Prospect (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) is a Kris Lees trained gelding that is knocking on the door to win one. Looked like it would come at Doomben a few weeks ago but he was nabbed on the peg by the heavily backed Milk Man, who had turned it up a few times prior, so the strength of that? Not sure, but this guy isn’t far off a win and IMO he gets his chance here.

6 Mangione (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) has done a very good job since coming to Queensland for Chris Waller. Ran over 1800m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he was off the speed and worked to the line well when a close up third to The Kingdom. The 1666m here should be perfect for him and only has to hold his form to go close to winning.

7 Aqua Vite (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) is a Scott Morrisey trained gelding that is four weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Doomben on wet ground when on speed and doing work. Tired late but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Milk Man. Has had that extra time off to recover from that hard run and I think can give some cheek here in a tricky race.

Been a little while between wins for 3 Kaonic (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) but I think he can have his day in the spotlight with a win here. Comes through the Premiers Cup from three weeks ago where he was back off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off well enough behind stablemate Another Dollar. He’s going well I think and is one of the hardest to beat in a tricky race.

2 Alward (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) looks a key threat. Ran third in the Premiers Cup at Doomben where he was wide early so Larry Cassidy pushed forward to get on speed. He battled away pretty well in defeat I thought after doing that early work when third to Another Dollar. If better luck goes his way this time around, he can win for sure.

Up in trip and fitter, can see 7 Tamarack (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) running a much improved race at odds. Officially had his first run for Steve O’Dea over 1800m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and battled away pretty well in defeat I thought behind The Kingdom, beaten only a couple of lengths. Like him up in trip and is a knockout chance IMO.

Going the way of 6 Secret Spirit (Bet Now: $2.60 TOP ODDS) for the David Vandyke team. This race will all depend on whether or not Langhro runs here or in the next race. At the time of writing, he’s in both races, but if he runs in the next race, Secret Spirit leads for fun. Resumes without a trial, but sprints well fresh and I dare Maloney would have had first pick of the two Vandyke runners.

I’m interested in 2 Langhro (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS). Steve O’Dea trained gelding that hasn’t raced since May 30 over the mile at Doomben when keen on speed and tired late behind La Pulga. Like him back to sprint trips, he’s had the freshen up and thought his trial on Tuesday at Doomben when winning was quite good. Hard to beat.

1 Tawfiq Boy (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) is an interesting runner. Kris Lees trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since May 29 when running last at the Gold Coast behind subsequent Stakes winner Inquiry, so that form reads well for this. Loved the trial win at the Gold Coast and he’s a horse who can sprint well fresh. One to keep an eye on.

2 Right Or Wrong (Bet Now: $6.50) is hard to beat against these. Ran in the Spear Chief three weeks ago at Doomben when ridden a touch upside down, sitting near the speed and fighting on well behind Inquiry, who dominated from the front and was too good. Right Or Wrong is better when ridden with a sit and if that happens here, he’ll be hard to get past.

1 Elixir (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Les Kelly trained gelding that’s going super this prep. Beat all bar Thy Kingdom Come two back before making amends a fortnight back at Eagle Farm, bolting up under a lovely steer from young Huxtable. He’s flying this horse and despite a stronger opposition this time around, he’ll take beating once again.

5 Potro Duro (Bet Now: $5.50), despite being just under two months between runs, can continue his picket fence in the form guide. He has won three on end, the latest of those three wins coming on May 23 at Eagle Farm when given a lovely ride near the speed and he was far too good. Given a freshen up and tick over trial was quite good.

9 Maddi Rocks.. (Bet Now: $2.80).good lord it was an ugly watch if you were on two weeks ago at Eagle Farm. Quantico had little luck as well, but Maddi Rocks was more unlucky and I think she would have gone close to winning with clear. Dry tracks are her go in life, which is what she gets here, and should prove very hard to beat.

3 Love Squirrels (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Paul Jenkins trained mare that did a bit wrong when resuming with a third at Doomben behind The Tenor but bounced back to her best three weeks ago with a strong finale from off the speed and lifted hard late by Fradd to get home. She’s hard fit now and has won previously at Ipswich.

6 Voila (Bet Now: $8.50) isn’t the most reliable mare but I don’t think she’s far off a win for Chris Waller. Ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and worked to the line pretty well without really threatening behind Star Of Michelin. Back to 1200m should be fine for her and I think with her pattern she can be a threat and swoop late.

Bit of a throw at the stumps here via 11 Sharpe Hussler (Bet Now: $20.00). Two weeks between runs after racing over 1000m at Eagle Farm where he sat back off the speed and closed off okay without threatening behind Royal Witness. Better suited at 1200m and if he can hold a spot from the gate, either leaders back of three back, he’ll be dangerous.

9 Mr Bellagio (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing in near career best form for the Edmonds camp. He has won three on the bounce, the latest coming over 1400m at the Gold Coast when giving them a galloping lesson on a heavy track. He’s flying at the moment and the tick over trial was quite good. Just has to overcome a tricky gate.

1000m is the A1 trip for 3 Tarzan (Bet Now: $19.00) so 1200m is a query. I think these days, 1200m, especially at Stakes level, is a bridge too far, as we saw in the Ascot Handicap behind In Good Time. He’s a 1000m horse and his rating is starting to come down, so weights wise, he isn’t badly treated. The 1200m at Ipswich isn’t as testing, and with his pattern, he’ll give a stack of cheek.

I like the way 7 Roman Aureus (Bet Now: $4.60) is going about it this time in. Comes here off the back of a strong win over 1350m at Doomben a couple of Wednesdays back when sitting off the speed before Cassidy eased into clear air and finished over the top to get the job done. Good test here, but he’s heading in the right direction and will be strong late.

Interesting that has been a good move for 11 Chico Milagro (Bet Now: $3.00) for Tony Gollan. He comes through the Euro Belle/Quantico race from two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he didn’t have the best of luck in the straight before eventually getting clear and finding the line pretty well. Draws out, so gets clear air from the outset and up to 1350m suits.

6 Vinco (Bet Now: $11.00) is a former Team McEvoy runner that has had a few runs now for Tony Gollan and has done a pretty good job since heading to Brisbane. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1350m at Doomben when well supported but after getting back in the run, he failed to come on and was a bit disappointing. Better than that, so giving him another chance.

I think 8 Strome (Bet Now: $19.00) can run a big race here at odds. Forget she went around in the Sapphire at Doomben. Not sure 1600m is her A1 trip, but even with that, she was ridden far too warm by Steph Thornton and rightfully faded late. She’s better with a sit, and back to 1350m I do like. If she brings her best, she could easily win without surprising.

4 Jami Lady (Bet Now: $3.20) just has to run out the 1350m strongly to go close to winning. She’s a beauty for Steve O’Dea that led throughout to win the Bright Shadow at Eagle Farm under a lovely front running ride from Boris Thornton. Can she stretch her brilliance to 1350m? If she gets a cheap run near the speed, I’m saying yes.

The Price/Kent stable love to target these Mares races, and have a good record in this race particular so definitely including 10 Persuader (Bet Now: $16.00), who has been quite good this time in. Ran in the Bright Shadow where the race shape was against her but didn’t mind the way she found the line behind the leader and eventual winner Jami Lady. Like her up in trip and she’ll be strong late.

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 2 Right Or Wrong

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 8 Strome
