18/4/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, RN Irwin Stakes day

The Adelaide Carnival continues this Saturday at Morphettville, headlined by the Irwin Stakes (1100m), a key lead up for the Sangster and Goodwood. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out five metres from the 2000m-1800m; Out eight metres for the remainder.

5 Theresabearinthere (Bet Now: $4.00) on top. Son of Carrara that is on debugt for Team Jolly and every time he has stepped out, whether it be a trial or jumpout, he has looked well above average. He was down to debut last Wednesday at Murray Bridge but has been kept on ice for this. Gate one looks idea, has early speed and this race doesn’t appear strong.

9 Daniyah (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of Artie Schiller for the McEvoy camp that backs up after debuting with a win at Murray Bridge last Wednesday. Was asked to chase from a fair way out yet kept finding under Vorster and surged hard the last little but to get up and score. Harder here, but she’ll be strong at the end.

8 Cinderella (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Team McEvoy trained filly that comes back to town in winning form. Far from disgraced in the Cinderella Stakes on Adelaide Cup Day before going to a maiden at Strathalbyn and made a mess of them, although I could have run quicker time, so that’s the knock, but she’s got hard race fitness/experience under the belt.

Going the way of an enigma here in 7 Busker’s Ballad (Bet Now: $15.00) but I reckon he’s knocking on the door to win one. Had to make a sustained run from the back at this track/distance two weeks ago and while he was held in a four length third to Looking Around, the run had merit to it. Now that he’s had the tough 2500m run under the belt, should hold him in good stead for this.

4 Looking Around (Bet Now: $3.60) has always threatened to win one in town and it finally came two weeks back at this track/distance under a lovely steer from Paul Gatt, who tracked the speed before getting the perfect drag up between runners, peeling clear and dashing away late. Doubt it will fall into place as well as that, but he’s a leading contender.

2 Franked (Bet Now: $11.00) can mix his form but his effort behind Looking Around wasn’t too bad. Got a fair way back in the run and took a while to wind up, but his finale was more than sound in running fourth. Another that is teasing to win a race like this and with that good run under the belt, I’d be watching the market, especially with this stable.

1 Charossa (Bet Now: $2.80) is knocking on the door to win one for Gordon Richards this time in. Ran over the mile at Caulfield two weeks ago in very testing conditions and while he was a well held second to the in form Exasperate, he didn’t turn it up and stayed on in a very sound effort. Ready to win now fourth up and finds a lovely race.

I think 6 Pretty Glass (Bet Now: $8.00) is worth a gamble here. Just looked in need of the run first up on the Parks track behind Shrouded In Mist before coming back to 1200m here two weeks ago where she was seven wide no cover for the trip and really did a great job to finish only 2.4L away from Kenyan Wonder. Jumps straight to the mile, but has upside and quality when right, and I think she’s going well.

3 Borris In Ossory (Bet Now: $13.00) is on the seven day back up for Grant Young after racing over 1550m on the Parks track last Saturday when doing a power of work out wide on speed and rightfully faded out of the finish behind Gigglon. His record on the quick turnaround isn’t too bad and hopefully can get on speed without spending too many petrol tickets.

15 Sacred Lass (Bet Now: $15.00) looks one of the better bets on the program. Have liked this filly since her first trial and while she’s taken her time to show talent on race day, but she put it together last start over the mile at Murray Bridge and loved the way she knuckled down, really attacking the line with purpose. Possible left field contender for the SA Oaks but needs to win this. Think she can.

6 Diamond Tycoon… (Bet Now: $8.50) gee she’s a bludger. Been on her in about 20 of her 23 career outings. Dropped off last start when she raced at this track/distance and what happens? She digs in and wanted to win. Yes, lucky to win given Skillful Steps was held up in behind at a vital stage, but she still got there. Can she repeat the dose? I wouldn’t be betting on it, but including her in a thin race.

4 Skillful Steps (Bet Now: $4.40) is ready to win. Too bad to be true behind Manzala two back so the stable backed him up a week later at this track/distance and he clearly should have won. Just had no luck in getting a proper clear path in the straight when just failing to pick up Diamond Tycoon. Better luck this time around, he can take this out.

Hoping sustained speed comes to the fore via 2 Mister Mogul (Bet Now: $4.80) for the in form Henry Dwyer camp. Hasn’t raced since overcoming trouble to take out the Flat Knacker over 900m at Albury but he’s usually a horse who pings the lids and just runs hence why he was so effective during the night season at the Valley. Hopefully jump, run, lead and win.

9 Symphonette (Bet Now: $6.50) is a daughter of Helmet that is resuming. Talented mare for Phillip Stokes that hasn’t raced since Feb 2 on the Parks track when a close up fourth to Lucky Fish. Form around her from last prep does read well and the recent trial win here last week on the Parks track was quite good so I think watch the market.

3 Debt Collector (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Stuart Padman trained gelding that resumes. He’s a bit of an enigma, but at his best, certainly good enough to measure up against these. 1050m is clearly short of his best, but Vorster has ridden the horse well previously and really liked the way he trialled last week on the Parks track, plus will be strong late.

Think the class of 7 Sunlight (Bet Now: $2.50) gets her home here en route to the Sangster. Star mare that has had two trials to prepare for her return, the latest coming last Thursday on the Parks track when given a good hitout under Vorster and was too good from the front. Bigger fish to cry, but her class just about gets her home.

In a three run prep in Melbourne, 1 Gytrash (Bet Now: $2.15) confirmed himself to be one of the better sprinters in Australia, winning the Lightning first up before a brave third in the Newmarket before finishing second to Loving Gaby in the William Reid. Back home with the Goodwood in mind and as you’d expect, his trial win last week was impressive and in sharp time. He’ll give the mare a huge race.

Enormous respect to 4 Kemalpasa (Bet Now: $10.00). He really came of age during the Spring/Summer, highlighted by his dominant win on Derby Day at Flemington. Then went to the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast and should have gone close to winning behind Madam Rouge, getting no luck in the straight. Trial behind Sunlight was good and he’s tough.

I’m really keen on 2 Tenley (Bet Now: $16.00) running well here. Her recent form says maybe not going as well as she was this time last year, but I think she is a horse who prefers racing the Sydney way Two placings from six starts the Melbourne way but six starts the opposite way for three wins, so that’s the concern here, but the set up here looks perfect. Latest run came in the Kewney at Flemington when a strong fourth to Rubisaki. Fast run 1100m here, can see her finishing right over the top.

11 Sizzlefly (Bet Now: $6.50) is looking to make it 3/3 this time in. Loved the fast tempo when winning first up at Mornington before racing here two weeks back over 1050m and gee she was impressive when letting down, her turn of foot coming to the fore early on in the straight and was able to maintain a margin. Harder here, but confident she runs well.

12 Lunar Light (Bet Now: $19.00) has got blacktype next to her name, but only via a placing. Will Clarken would love to get a win next to her name given how well bred she is and she finds a winnable race here. Placed in the Angus Armanasco before having a break and racing over 1050m here two weeks ago when a strong third to stablemate, the unbeaten Garvoc. Fitter and up to 1100m, she’s likeable.

Double figures for 4 Vegas Jewel (Bet Now: $7.50) looks crazy. Very good filly for Kav that resumed in the Bendigo Guineas three weeks ago and to the eye, it was just a run, but considering she had to make her run out wide, where it was quicksand, I’d be very forgiving. Form around her from the Spring reads super and she’ll eat up 1800m here.

5 Wings Of Pastrami (Bet Now: $7.00) is a key threat for me. Was jumping to the mile from 1200m when second up in the Laelia two weeks ago and despite that, she kept finding under Fawke and it was a hair nostril splitting her and Meuse on the peg. Has more to come does this filly and off that run, with upside, 1800m should be ideal. Happy to be in her corner.

9 Oriental Lily (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Team Snowden trained filly that was good from the back two back at Sandown behind Beehunter before going to the Laelia where she wasn’t able to take advantage of gate one, settling near last on the fence, but liked the way she finished her race off. She’s going well this girl and has to be included.

14 Lassiter (Bet Now: $3.40) is a Rothesay mare for Team McEvoy that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since September 4 over 1000m at Sandown when near the speed and showed good ticker late to draw clear late and win well. Two trials leading in have been strong and she is an absolute bomb when produced on raceday with fresh legs.

Good little test here for 10 One More Jack (Bet Now: $4.40) but I think Shane Oxlade has a good one on his hands here. This gelding hasn’t raced since leading throughout over 1200m here on Adelaide Cup Day, but what I will say is that he got an absolute picnic in front and turned it into a sit/sprint, which won’t happen here. Can he burn the candle at both ends?

7 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $14.00) looks a chance at big odds. Paul Seater trains this mare, who resumed on the Parks track a few weeks back when off the speed and spotting them a start but her finale was more than satisfactory I thought behind Equal Love. Normally goes flat second up after a good resumption, but her form from the Spring/Summer doesn’t read the absolute worst. Doubt she wins, but certainly one for multiples.

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 13 Appalachian

LONG SHOT: Race Two Number 7 Busker’s Ballad
