Twilight racing heads to Morphettville this Friday where eight races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (16:10) Chalk Hill Mdn Plate 1050m
The significant jockey booking and I’d say significant jockey upgrade with Zechner aboard 6 Sellix (Bet Now: $3.10) is leaning me her way to break a long run of outs. She’s an honest mare that races well, tries hard…just doesn’t win, but Zechner can really punch a horse home and hoping his strong riding can get this mare home.
2 Effortkat (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Shayne Cahill trained mare that looks to have returned in good order. Jumped out well prior to resuming at Murray Bridge where she was off the speed and chasing but kept find the line and was good in defeat. Vorster sticks and has more upside than most here. Hard to beat.
4 La Rapide (Bet Now: $6.50) gets the blinkers first time for Andrew Clarken and think she’s hard to beat here. Resumed over 1100m at Gawler and worked home quite well late in the piece when third to Alotafun, who was good in defeat last Saturday here. Back in trip is a query but like the way she’s going.
Race 2. (16:50) Furphy Mdn Plate 1800m
Tough race this, but do feel that 3 Battle Blitz (Bet Now: $2.80) is the most progressive of this lot and he can get away with it. Ran over 1400m at Murray Bridge last time out where he was back near last in the run and never really threatened but did make up ground, racing like a horse that wants further. That’s what he gets here and has upside to come.
2 Smiling Assassin (Bet Now: $2.50) is second up here and should improve off the resumption. That came over 1500m at Gawler where I thought Pannell gave him a lovely ride just off the speed and tried hard. Just think his condition gave out late when third. He’s suited up to 1800m and Pannell does stick with him.
7 Cuzzen (Bet Now: $18.00) can be an improver at odds. Ran over the mile at Balaklava last time out where she was three and four wide no cover throughout and battled away okay after that hard run. Draws much better this time around and her best is capable of figuring in the finish. Knockout chance.
Race 3. (17:30) Roadside Services Mdn Plate 1500m
3 Justedee (Bet Now: $3.10) has been frustrating in recent runs but reckon he can get away with what looks a very moderate maiden. He was backed as if unbeatable last time out at Balaklava but he couldn’t quicken and was one paced. Still, only beaten a lip. Bursting to win a maiden and he gets his chance here.
2 Dalakara (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Ryan Balfour trained gelding that is not far off a maiden win and think think he finds a winnable maiden here with Todd Pannell to steer. Ran over 1400m last time out and battled away well from just off the speed behind Shadow Boom. Think with a touch of improvement to come he can take this out.
7 No Strings (Bet Now: $13.00) is a very interesting runner. Gordon Richards trained first starter that has has several trials to get ready for start one, the latest trial being last week when fourth. Didn’t wear Blinkers and they are on for the debut so I reckon watch the market and see what it does with him.
Race 4. (18:10) Adelaide Galvanising Hcp (c2) 1600m
Second up, up in trip, looks a good set up for the Team McEvoy mare 1 Zoulah (Bet Now: $1.70). Resumed over the mile at Morphettville two weeks ago where Vorster tried to get towards the outside in search of better ground but in doing so, she couldn’t get a chance to build momentum and finish off like she would have liked to. Finds a winnable race here.
2 Unlaced (Bet Now: $5.50) is a fascinating runner. Former Kiwi that makes her Australian debut for Michael Hickmott. Hasn’t raced since finishing down the track in the NZ Oaks back in March behind Jennifer Eccles. The trial and jumpout have each been just fair, but we know the record the stable has with these imports, so a definite market watch.
8 Motell (Bet Now: $3.70) isn’t far off a win I feel for Jon O’Connor. This gelding ran over 1500m at Morphettville last time out where he was back in the ruck and did make up decent headway without threatening behind Exalted Traveller. That was his first look at this distance range and ran well, so with that in mind, think he’s hard to beat here.
Race 5. (18:40) Peter Elberg Funerals Hcp (c2) 1050m
Going with 5 She’s Krupt (Bet Now: $5.50), who is third up here for Ryan Balfour. Resumed with a strong win first up in a Balaklava maiden before racing here last Saturday where she got back to near last in the run and made up good ground behind Mayan in a strong effort. If she’s within range on the turn, think she’s good enough to take this out.
3 Exalted Queen (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing well at the moment and is deserving of a city win for the in form Grant Young camp. Ran last Wednesday at Balaklava when hunting up to lead and fighting on strongly, just getting pipped late by Rustydustysunshine. If she can overcome the wide gate, she will take some beating.
If this was 1200m, could almost be tempted to have 8 Enlist (Bet Now: $23.00) on top. Reckon Matty Seyers has him going well. Just think off last start, he wants further. Last start was 1000m at Murray Bridge where he got back in the run but really liked the way he closed off late in the piece. He’ll want them to go silly in front so he can get last look.
Race 6. (19:10) Tab Venue Mode (bm58) 1800m
12 Master Of Zerprise (Bet Now: $4.20) is suited here I feel. Mick Huxtable trained gelding that has had a couple of runs now at 1800m, and for mine is wanting more ground, or a more genuine tempo, and that is what he should get here. Looked a bit one paced last time out at Murray Bridge over 1800m, racing like he wanted a faster run race, so think he has to be respected here.
9 Ancient History (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing well for Dean Saxon and can take this out. He ran over 1800m at Murray Bridge last time out and worked home strongly from off the pace when third to Meadows Young Buck in a good effort. Vorster sticks and this does look a winnable race given the depth, as a whole, is thin.
1 Meadows Young Buck (Bet Now: $7.00) is going super at the moment for Grant Young and can win again. Somewhat unwanted in betting when racing at Murray Bridge last start but he showed really good ticker from near the speed and he fought on hard to get the win. If he can overcome the wide draw, he’ll be around the mark again.
Race 7. (19:40) Adelaide Image Printing (bm62) 1200m
1 Picargo (Bet Now: $1.90) is bursting to win another race for Ryan Balfour. Looked like it would come when he raced at Morphettville a fortnight ago, looking the winner when Caitlin Jones pushed the button, but the horse just had no answers late for the finale produced by Stubby, who drove up nearer the inside and finished best. He’s racing well and is deserving of another win.
3 Ranger Frank (Bet Now: $5.00) is an Emma Hubbard trained gelding that is racing in super form at the moment. Ran just under two weeks ago at Murray Bridge where he was backed as if unbeatable and the market got it spot on. He was dominant and impressive. Harder here, but he’s heading in the right direction and can measure up to these.
7 Magic Reward (Bet Now: $6.00) can turn the tables on Ranger Frank without surprising. Magic Reward resumed in that race mentioned above. Sat off the speed before peeling wider and presented to win the race. Just reckon his condition gave out late. He’ll come on from that and stable should always be respected when they come to town.
Race 8. (20:10) Ht Capital (bm75) 1600m
1 Territory Titan (Bet Now: $6.50) is a beauty. Puts himself on speed and tries hard. Had good backing when racing here two weeks ago on wet ground and once he got on speed, looked race over and he was too good. Draws wide and has top weight, but has upside and is one tough animal. One of the hardest to beat here.
6 Icecrusher (Bet Now: $17.00) with only 51kg on her back has to be regarded as a leading chance here. Resumed with a strong win at Balaklava before stepping up to 1400m at Murray Bridge where she lumped 61.5kg and worked home with real purpose late when second to Exalted Lauretta. The significant weight drop and more upside than most means she’s a definite winning chance.
8 Li’l Hank (Bet Now: $10.00) hasn’t really put a bad run in this prep. Continues to hold his form really well, which was the case over the mile at Morphettville a few weeks ago when a strong third to Rapid Raiser. He should get a lovely run in transit and I think the break between runs is also a positive for this Jordan Frew trained galloper.
