18/1/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Murray Bridge

SA metro racing this Saturday continues at Murray Bridge where nine races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 2000m-800m; Out three metres from the 1200m Chute-800m; True for the remainder.

5 Release The Hounds (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Foxwedge that comes through the Fortune Follows race at Morphettville on Boxing Day. He ran fourth but his run was a real eye catcher. Liked the way he worked home from the back and got within a couple of lengths of the winner. Was down to run over 1200m last Saturday, but really like him up to 1400m.

2 Love ‘N’ Peace (Bet Now: $2.35) up to 1400m I really like. This McEvoy gelding debuted over 1200m at Strathalbyn where he was just off the speed and took a while to get into his work, but kept finding under Vorster and was too good in winning. Bigger track, extra furlong, enormous upside and likely gets the drag over via Iscariot.

7 Lady Pavli Chenko (Bet Now: $8.50) is on the seven day back up after racing over 1000m last Saturday where she was back near last in the run before getting wider and finishing off strongly to run second to Little Rich Boy. That was her first run in a month so you’d like to think she’ll improve off that and really like her up in trip. Straight to 1400m though is a little query.

1 Jyoti (Bet Now: $2.05) looks the safe option in the 2YO race. This Team McEvoy trained filly debuted three weeks ago at Morphettville where she took on four rivals and while i doubt she beat much, she put them away and was impressive. Time was somewhat slow relative to the day, which is a concern, but I think a factor to that was the small field. She’s on top.

The barrier trial pervs are all over 8 Mileva (Bet Now: $3.00), who is into around $3.50 after opening as much as $10. Hard to beat, but surely over bet now. Debuts off the back of a really sharp trial win here when winning and running a tick over 58, which was clearly fast time for the morning. Gets the claim, has early toe and will give a bold sight. Last 10-15 minutes of betting will be interesting.

3 Champagne Affair (Bet Now: $13.00) comes through the Jyoti race from three weeks ago at Morphettville where she was on debut and showed really good early toe to lead and tried hard, but clearly no match late for the McEvoy filly. Off that, I doubt she turns the tables, but has race experience and that should hold her in good stead to run another positive race.

2 Star Of Monsoon (Bet Now: $10.00) just looks so well placed here after the claim for an in form Sophie Logan. Two runs for Grant Young have been quite good I feel. First up just ran out of condition behind Oamaru Owl before racing here last Saturday when four and five wide no cover for the trip in a total forgive. Drops miles in grade/depth, and with the claim, he’s so well in.

6 Blow Torch (Bet Now: $6.50) is worth another look I feel. Was heavily backed when resuming at Gawler and in a continuing theme for the stable, an odds on pop got rolled. He had every chance and was just no match for them late when running third. Stable does tend to fire when racing at Murray Bridge, and fitter, Blow Torch deserves another chance.

An Adelaide Cup prep begins here for 1 Franked (Bet Now: $41.00), trained by Michael Hickmott. This stayer is first up, having not raced since Melbourne Cup Day when down the track in the 2800m race behind Shared Ambition, who is being talked up as a Group l horse. Whatever he does here, he will improve out, but can pull out a decent run fresh. One for multiples.

11 Lunar Light (Bet Now: $3.50) on top for me. This filly had trialled up quite well prior to resuming over 1200m at Strathalbyn and it was one of the wins of the day given she was wide no cover for the trip and was there to be run down late, but kept finding under Vorster and was too good. Should get three wide cover from the gate and be strong late.

4 Sonic Deed (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Ryan Balfour trained mare who showed really good sustained speed to win two back at Morphettville before going to Gawler a fortnight ago where she had the dream sit behind the speed and loomed to win, but was run down late. Think she can get a good run in transit once again and this isn’t the strongest race going around.

5 Magnus Magic (Bet Now: $18.00) is on the seven day back up for John Hickmott after racing here last Saturday when doing plenty of work on speed and was a beaten horse early on in the straight when down the track behind Cotillion. She’s getting ready for the latter part of the Port Lincoln season, and her rating is down enough to get there and win a few races. Perhaps for exotics here, include her.

8 Diamond Tycoon (Bet Now: $7.00) hasn’t won in a long time but despite that fact, she is racing well. Ran over the mile at Morphettville last time out where Jerry Chau gave her a sweet steer just off the speed and tried hard, but couldn’t reel in the in form Bajan. Could I back her to win? Probably not, but she goes on top in a thin race.

9 Hahndorf (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Ryan Balfour trained gelding that was really well supported when racing over the mile at Morphettville three weeks back and I thought he was most disappointing behind Master Chum. Was there to be dangerous on the turn but as soon as pressure was applied, he found zilch. Perhaps off a more genuine tempo he’ll be better.

14 O’Mizzna (Bet Now: $11.00) looks a progressive mare for Sue Murphy that comes here off the back of a maiden win at Naracoorte and while she didn’t beat much, what I liked is that she dug in when challenged in the straight and fought hard to cling on and win. Harder here, but in a good stable and does have a recent win compared to some here who have been toiling for a while.

7 Light The Waves (Bet Now: $3.70), though she wants further, looks one of the better bets on the program for the McEvoy camp. Resumed two weeks ago over 1700m at Gawler where the tempo was somewhat against her but loved the way she found the line late when third to the in form Pickelhaube. Has enormous upside and stable has a fab winning strike rate at Murray Bridge.

Hard to knock a horse with a picket fence next to his name and that is what 3 Star Status (Bet Now: $4.20) has, winning his past two. Latest win came three weeks ago in the Southern Speed Final where his brilliance got him over the line, beating home stablemate Dr Dependable, who won last Saturday to tick that form off. Back to 1800m I like, hard fit and in form.

4 Super Swoop (Bet Now: $21.00) is perhaps looking for 2000m+ so 1800m may be a tad short of his best, but he’s got a touch of class when right and is a proven city performer. Ran over 1700m at Gawler two weeks ago and was just okay in defeat behind Pickelhaube. Think he wants further, but is suited on the bigger track and will be strong late.

12 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying for David Jolly but can’t crack it for a win. Could make a case that win should have come on Boxing Day. Just had no luck in the straight and by the time he got clear, Tiara Star had momentum and was off and gone. He can be a hard horse to follow/trust, but convinced he’s going well and should take some beating here off the back of a strong recent Strathalbyn jumpout.

11 Lake District Girl (Bet Now: $3.20) will look the winner for a long way. Speed demon for the McEvoy camp that resumes, having not raced since the Nitschke during the Autumn Carnival when down the track behind stablemate East Indiaman. Has looked outstanding in both trials, but given her racing style, she’ll never trial poorly. Hard to beat all the same.

14 Zarace (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Ken Sweeney trained sprinter that was far from disgraced behind Tiara Star at Morphettville on Boxing Day before going to Gawler two weeks ago when on speed and giving a really good kick, only to be bloused near the peg by Atomic Lokade. Little query at the trip against this bunch, but will give a great sight I’m sure.

She seems a real iron mare does 7 Exalted Dee (Bet Now: $10.00) and I think she’s worth an each way ticket here. Ran at this track/distance last Saturday and it was pretty much a barrier trial for her. Ridden cold out the back, peeled wide with the 62kg and just whacked away. Draws a good barrier and tumbles 11kg in weight from last weekend with the claim for Jerry Chau, who is a strong left hand whip rider that can straighten this mare out.

9 Roselli Sting (Bet Now: $7.50) is knocking on the door to win a race this time in. Ran over 1500m at Gawler two weeks ago when not really suited by the slow tempo but surged hard late to just miss out on picking up and in form Borris In Ossory. Bigger track and up to 1600m are two big ticks for him and finds a winnable race against this lot.

2 Karlovasi (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Team Jolly trained gelding who is racing at the mile for the first time since his 3YO days when close up in the Morphettville Guineas. He has mainly been a sprinter since, but stepped up to 1500m a fortnight back at Gawler when on speed and fighting on well in defeat when third to Borris In Ossory. Little query at the trip, but is racing well.

1 Exalted Trail (Bet Now: $5.00) up to 1200m I like. Was really keen on him over 1100m at Gawler two weeks ago and on face value, have to mark him down as disappointing, but as the day progressed, it was apparent that nearer the inside wasn’t the spot to be, so a tiny forgive there. Back on his home track, he can improve big time.

13 Two Odd Sox (Bet Now: $12.00) is on the seven day back up for the Shayne Cahill team after racing over 1400m here last Saturday where he was wide no cover for the trip and just tired late when fourth to Ambidazzle. Off the run prior, he was looking for 1400m, but last weekend I thought he was ridden poorly. Giving him another chance, hopefully with cover.

5 Oh Mo (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Sam Burford trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since August 10 when working home strongly to run fourth to the well performed More Than Exceed after getting back in the run. Trained on the track and usually performs well with fresh legs, so I think watch the market and see what it does.
