Eight races will be run at Belmont on Saturday with several Carnival aspirants set to resume. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (14:43) : J.J. Richards & Son Handicap (72+) 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Lite’N In My Veins (Bet Now: $2.50) is a talented galloper that resumes for the Fred Kersley stable. Created a big impression in his first prep, winning a Group lll on debut, showing us the class he has. Trial win here was sharp and don’t be shocked if he measures up during the Carnival.
Big Danger: 3 It’s It (Bet Now: $2.40) put behind him a frustrating run of outs with a smart win here last time out, aided by a confident steer from Pike, who remains on, which is a good lead. Draws well again, hard fit and now that he has won, he can go on with it.
Roughie: 5 Castle Retreat (Bet Now: $11.00) ran fourth to Its It in that race mentioned above where he had a charmed run behind the tempo and fought on very well. He can race on speed and that could be ideal here given there are no real designated leaders.
Race Two (15:23) : Crown Perth Opening Day October 17 Handicap (72+) 1600m:
Back Me: 1 Chocolate Holic (Bet Now: $2.15) for me here but I wouldn’t say he is a moral. He ran here a fortnight back where he and Pounamu paired off to fight it out with Pike lifting his mount home. Meets the runner 1.5kg worse off which is a query to some extent, but how can you ignore him.
Big Danger: 4 Pounamu (Bet Now: $2.40) has come back in super order this time in but just can’t quite crack it for the win. He was surging with Chocolate Holic last time out but just missed out on winning. He gets the weight pull, has more upside…if he is to turn the tables, it will be here.
Roughie: 3 Raising Dubai (Bet Now: $21.00) ran in the Coolgardie Cup at Kalgoorlie last time out where he got back in the run and closed off well late behind a proven city performer in I’m Feeling Lucky. Back to the mile is some query I think because I think he is looking for further, but small field and a soft gate should see him thereabouts.
Race Three (16:03) : Ascot Racing Book Now Maiden 1300m:
Back Me: 2 King Louie (Bet Now: $3.20) resumed over 1300m at Northam last Thursday and worked home well late after getting well back in the run. Pike remains on and he will love the spacious surroundings Belmont has to offer. Rates highly.
Big Danger: 14 Cool De Lago (Bet Now: $7.00) is a well bred mare making her debut for the Lane yard. Has looked the part in a couple of trials to prepare and she gets the services of Paul Harvey which is a good lead. Definite market watch.
Roughie: 3 Shrewd Gamble (Bet Now: $8.00) resumed at the midweeks here on August 31 and was an eye catcher late, getting back to near last before peeling and presenting, looming to win the race but just not quite finishing it off. He should take enormous benefit from that outing and prove hard to beat.
Race Four (16:43) : Kirin Megumi Plate 1300m:
Back Me: 5 Bonny Be Good (Bet Now: $2.00) resumed here over 1200m last Wednesday and produced a lovely turn of foot from off the speed to win quite impressively. Stable knows when to bring them to town and just has enormous upside.
Big Danger: 1 Where’s Wally (Bet Now: $4.00) is a handy gelding that is two from two, the latest win coming here a fortnight back when sprinting hard from off the pace to get the win despite racing a touch greenly. He has upside and should take some beating.
Roughie: 8 Royal Missile (Bet Now: $7.00) is a smart filly that resumes for Simon Miller. Had two runs last prep and while she didn’t win she showed talent. Appears to have come back in good order based on her recent trial here, which was sharp.
Race Five (17:20) : Tabtouch Masters Handicap (1MW) 1000m:
Back Me: 5 Amelia’s Love (Bet Now: $2.15) is a very talented galloper who resumed here a tick under three weeks back over this distance and was very impressive in getting the job done. Only has upside and really should be winning.
Big Danger: 4 Audience (Bet Now: $4.80) ran here six weeks ago and was just dreadful behind Three Votes but clearly she wasn’t 100%. Been given a break since that flop, and comes here with no trials. Has the potential, so she’s a market watch.
Roughie: 7 Tenterden (Bet Now: $21.00) started favourite when racing at Northam last Thursday where he got back in the run and closed off okay late without threatening to run third, beaten just under a length. Has performed well in town and is a must for exotics.
Race Six (18:00) : Seacorp plate 1000m:
Back Me: 1 Sweet Ora (Bet Now: $2.20) is a filly that can be best summed up as what you see is what you get. She is a little ripper for Dan Morton who doesn’t win by big spaces, but she continues to get the job done. Meets a field with not as much depth here, so she rates highly.
Big Danger: 2 Swedish Memories (Bet Now: $11.00) was touted as a Karrakatta horse after a promising Summer prep but she really struggled in three outings, including the Karrakatta. Trial leading in looked solid enough and on her best form, she is right in this.
Roughie: 3 Guest Express (Bet Now: $15.00) is a talented type that resumes for Simon Miller. He performed quite well during the Summer in some quality two year old races. Been given a good break and did look to trial well recently here. Hard to beat.
Race Seven (18:40) : Del Basso Smallgoods Handicap (66+) 1400m:
Back Me: 5 Cronkite (Bet Now: $2.25) for me here in what looks a two horse race. He is unbeaten in two runs this time in for Team Willliams, the latest win coming on July 23 over 1400m. Could have kept going with her, but I think they believe she is blacktype. If that’s the case, she should just about take care of this lot.
Roughie: 3 Chasing Chaos (Bet Now: $7.50) ran over 1400m here a fortnight ago where he had a nice run near the speed but just failed to finish it off when running fifth to Chocolate Holic. This is a drop down in depth for sure and he appears to be a knockout hope.
Big Danger: 8 Prying Tom (Bet Now: $11.00) debuted a couple of weeks back at Northam where he sat off the tempo before Pike eased out and the horse let down with a lovely turn of foot to win and win with plenty left. Significant rise in depth, but is very likeable.
Race Eight (19:20) : Amanda Energy Handicap (78+) 1000m:
Back Me: 7 Cool Passion (Bet Now: $3.80) should be forgiven for her failure here a fortnight back. As good as Lucy Warwick is, she put it an absolute howler on the mare that day, sitting four and five wide no cover for the trip in a fast run race. Give her better luck here and she can bounce back.
Big Danger: 8 Kennocha (Bet Now: $4.40) is a talented mare that resumes for the Durrant/Miller yard. She really put it all together last time in, winning a stack of races where she led and gave nothing a look. Resumes here with no trials, but Pike is on.
Roughie: 10 Volkoff (Bet Now: $4.80) resumed in that race Cool Passion flopped in and her effort was very good given she too was back in the run but she had cover and really attacked the line. They’ll go hard here, so she will get her chance once again.
