A bumper card has been assembled for Morphettville this Saturday, where it is Durbridge Stakes Day. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres from the 1200m-400m; Out five metres for the remainder.

Race One (13:32) : Julian Burtons Burns Trust Handicap (82) 2600m:
Back Me: Going with the Patty Payne trained Turner Bayou (Best Odds: $7.00), who worked home well against the tempo last time out over 2400m on the Parks track when fourth to Stormy Bill. Meets that horse 4kg better at the weights, has more upside and gets gate one for an in form apprentice.
Big Danger: Stormy Bill (Best Odds: $4.60) does look the main threat. He was given a peach on steer ride from Dom Tourneur and the horse proved far too good for his rivals. He won’t get it all his own way in front now, but he is in such ripping form that he has to be rated as a serious threat.
Roughie: Flying Casino (Best Odds: $8.00) has been up for a long time, but he is racing quite well. Forget he went out in that Stormy Bill race because he was another that wasn’t suited by the slow tempo. With a more genuine tempo here, he can threaten.
Race Two (14:07) : Focus International Maiden Plate 1200m:
Back Me: Streetcar Illusion (Best Odds: $13.00) debuted over 1000m on the Parks track and was very green throughout, settling near last and picking up very late in the race. With the run under the belt now, and with in form Paul Gatt steering, he should improve sharply I think in a race that looks very even.
Big Danger: King Amongst Many (Best Odds: $5.50) trialled once in Sydney this time last year before being sent to the Lindsay Park stable where he looks to be handling quite well based on a couple of trial efforts, the latest coming over 1000m at Gawler. In the right stable and regular rider aboard.
Roughie: Infinity Queen (Best Odds: $26.00) tried hard last time out at Gawler, sitting three wide no cover on speed for the entire trip yet still finished off well to run third to Saturday Magic. With luck from the draw here, she should be around the mark.
Race Three (14:43) : Employers Mutual Handicap (64) 1050m:
Back Me: Itz Invincible (Best Odds: $2.50) resumes here for Matthew Seyers. On debut he blitzed them at Murray Bridge before coming to the city and running a game second to subsequent Stakes performer, Counter Pulse. No trials, but looks well above average.
Roughie: Captain Parker (Best Odds: $3.70) had been bursting to win his maiden for some time, and he did emphatically last start at Strathalbyn, leading all the way to win by a space. Now that he has got the win out of the way, he could go right on with it.
Big Danger: Metier (Best Odds: $4.40) is a talented type that resumes for Tony McEvoy. He raced twice during the early Winter, with the second run resulting in a placing in the Elvstroem Classic behind Stakes winner Prince Of Brooklyn. Recent trials have been encouraging, draws gate one and Neilson on.
Race Four (15:18) : Dlux Handicap (64) 1100m:
Back Me: Most interesting runner of the meeting here for mine in the shape of Belle Melba (Best Odds: $2.00). She looked like a Stakes horse when winning her first two starts, then resumed during the Warrnambool Carnival where she was an alarming drifter in betting and that proved correct when down the track behind Reigning Meteor, then was found to have had Mucus post race. Jump outs have been encouraging, and on her best form, she is better than these, so watch market moves.
Big Danger: Rock Status (Best Odds: $7.50) debuted at Gawler last week and looked very impressive in winning, admittedly after receiving the run of the race. Looks to have above average ability, and despite the horror gate, she should be right in the finish with some luck.
Roughie: Chondra (Best Odds: $17.00) is a consistent gelding for Barry Brook who has been given a three week freshen up after running a close up third to Leonforte on the Parks track. Yet to really fire a shot on the normal track, but he is racing so well at the moment and has to be included in exotics.
Race Five (15:53) : Maxima Handicap (64) 1600m:
Back Me: Just looks the perfect race for Coachella (Best Odds: $3.80). She was very good in defeat two back when wide no cover before going to Gawler and despite getting held up a touch in the straight, her class got her home. Fourth up now, so she should be ready to show her best, and she just looks so well weighted after the claim for Emily Finnegan.
Big Danger: Beau’s My Boy (Best Odds: $2.90) looked to have his chance last time out on the Parks track when attempting to lead all the way but just felt the pinch late when third to Burnro. Drawn awkwardly here, but if he can somehow get over without doing too much work, he will prove hard to run down.
Roughie: Grand Armada (Best Odds: $14.00) wasn’t far away in that Burnro race mentioned above but he also had every chance in the run. Third up now, draws well again and in form apprentice takes over with a claim, so he should get every chance and prove a serious winning threat.
Race Six (16:28) : Programmed Durbridge Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: Flamberge (Best Odds: $1.26). Next.
Big Danger: No Big Danger. Flamberge wins.
Roughie: Flamberge just wins. Next race please.
Race Seven (17:12) : David Balfour Memorial Handicap (75) 1200m:
Back Me: Northern Zhar (Best Odds: $3.00) scored a dominant win over this track/distance two back before stepping up to the 1300m on the Parks track and couldn’t quite finish it off when running to Magic Boy. Back to the 1200m here is ideal and he should prove hard to beat.
Big Danger: Martian (Best Odds: $61.00) is the watch horse. First up for Tony McEvoy, this imported stayer hasn’t raced since finishing behind Hioctdane over 2000m here back in June. Recent trial here was strong, but the query is that the second horse in the trial was beaten as an odds on pop at Port Lincoln on Thursday. Still, watch market moves with this stayer.
Roughie: El Prado Gold (Best Odds: $31.00) ran in the feature sprint on Gawler Cup Day and wasn’t that far away when fifth to Last Day. He hasn’t won for a long time, and is generally a tease, but he draws a soft gate and can finish hard if the speed is on.
Race Eight (17:52) : MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (75) 1800m:
Back Me: Frost Dodger (Best Odds: $9.00) was given a lovely front running steer last time out on the Parks track and that proved decisive when the horse clung on to win. The second horse came out and won on Wednesday to frank the form.
Big Danger: Gloryland (Best Odds: $1.95) tried his heart out last start in the Inglis Cup at Caulfield when a close second to Firehouse Rock, who ran well on Wednesday. This looks considerably weaker and he should prove hard to beat.
Roughie: A Chiller (Best Odds: $17.00) ran third to Frost Dodger in that race he won, and he was supported to win that race, and though he didn’t win, he ran a nice third. I think getting back on the bigger track will suit and he has some upside left I feel.
BEST BET: Race Six Number 1 Flamberge
NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 1 Frost Dodger
VALUE: Race Seven Number 2 El Prado Gold
