Nine races have been set down for Morphettville this Saturday as their Carnival begins to heat up. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out seven metres for the remainder.
RN Irwin Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the RN Irwin Stakes
Race 1. (12:31) Adelaide Galvanising (bm64) 1050m
Think 2 Generation (Bet Now: $3.10) can make a winning debut here. Maher/Eustace trained colt that is having start one and we have seen this season that the stable love to send them to SA for a debut kill. He has looked sharp in a couple of jumpouts and should get every chance from the draw.
4 Desired (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Team McEvoy trained filly that resumes. She did a solid job in her opening prep during the Spring, which saw her win on debut at Murray Bridge before finishing down the track at Flemington during Cup Week. Looked solid in a trial last week and has enough speed to hold a forward spot and prove hard to run down.
1 Arran Bay (Bet Now: $4.50) is a son of All Too Hard on debut for Phillip Stokes. He trialled on the Parks track last week and looked to go about his business quite nicely when winning the trial narrowly, but was impressive to the eye. Tricky draw, but looks talented, so watch the market with him.
Race 2. (13:06) Adel. Carn. May 1st-15th-bm78 2500m
7 Exalted Fire (Bet Now: $13.00) has to rise a fair bit in depth/class but Grant Young might well have a sneaky Derby contender in this guy. Progressive three year old that had his first run at 2000m+ last time out at Gawler and while he didn’t beat a great deal, he made a mess of them and was impressive. Keen to see how he goes.
Travis Doudle has 1 Analytica (Bet Now: $2.90) absolutely flying at the moment. He spanked them two weeks ago at Oakbank. He got to the best part of the track and away he went. He was dominant and continued his real purple patch at the moment. No reason why he can’t win again in a similar race.
4 Ourkhani (Bet Now: $5.50) hasn’t won in a little while but is racing well for the Jolly camp. He ran third in the Analytica race from a fortnight back at Oakbank. He was near the speed and battled on pretty well but was just no match for that hard fit/in form stayer. He runs well again…well enough to win?
Race 3. (13:41) Furphy Hcp (bm78) 1050m
Good little race this for the sprinters. This track looks like it will be on the firm side, so being on speed will be no disadvantage. With that in mind, I’m going with 5 Little Rich Boy (Bet Now: $13.00) because you know where he will be out – out of trouble, in front and looking the winner for a long way. He showed great early toe in the Manihi last time but found the class a bit much. Back to 78 grade, I think he’ll give a stack of cheek.
4 Toff Love (Bet Now: $5.00) is flying for David Jolly and I think he can win again. With respect, it was a pretty ordinary 72 he won at Oakbank two weeks ago but he made a mess of them and was dominant. The overall time was several lengths slower than the other 1100m race, but that was a Stakes race, so it’s understandable. He’s racing well and can measure up again.
2 Debt Collector (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Stuart Padman trained sprinter that resumes. He had a two run Spring prep, resuming with a second here to Kenyan Wonder before going to the City Of Marion where he got back and couldn’t come on. Usually a bomb when produced fresh, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 4. (14:16) Quayclean (bm60) 1600m
6 Mavette (Bet Now: $5.00) is on the seven day back up for Ryan Balfour after racing last Saturday over 1500m here. Thought Pannell gave her a peach and she was there to beat Reynolds but that former Hong Kong horse is flying and was just too good. Tricky draw, but is racing well and deserves a metro win.
4 Echo Boomer (Bet Now: $2.60) is flying for David Jolly and I think he can win again. With respect, it was a pretty ordinary 72 he won at Oakbank two weeks ago but he made a mess of them and was dominant. The overall time was several lengths slower than the other 1100m race, but that was a Stakes race, so it’s understandable. He’s racing well and can measure up again.
3 Borris In Ossory (Bet Now: $23.00) can give a sight in front here for Grant Young. He has probably seen better days, but think he can land on speed and run a cheeky race with the in form Jess Eaton to steer. Didn’t think he was too bad behind Farooq last time over 2000m. Back to the mile is a positive.
Race 5. (14:56) Happy 90th M Kettapellar-bm82 1600m
4 Don’tdreamit’sover (Bet Now: $2.40) is a month between runs for Michael Hickmott since recording a big win on the Parks track. Was wide no cover on speed for the trip, which is a near impossible task to do successfully on that track, but he kept finding under pressure and on the line, he was strongest. Like that he has been given extra time to recover from that gut buster and is hard to beat against these.
9 Cassius (Bet Now: $5.00) has been up a little while but is racing really well at the moment. Put together a strong sequence of runs at the Valley before going to Mornington where he chased from off the speed and was game in defeat behind Flandersrain in a fast race. Down to 52kg, he’s likeable.
10 Roselli Sting (Bet Now: $14.00) is on the seven day back up for Gordon Richards after racing at this track/distance last Saturday. He got back to near last in the run and worked home strongly late when a close up third to surprise winner France’s Boy. How strong is that form? Not sure, but he’s hard fit and racing well.
Race 6. (15:36) Redelva Stakes 1100m
7 Muntaseera (Bet Now: $4.60) hasn’t been a filly that you could trust and follow with confidence, but I think she’s going well and can take this out. Close up fourth to speedy mare Fabergino fresh down the straight at Flemington before going to the Valley where she had the severe bias against her and that beat her in the end I thought. Hard to beat against these.
Great to see 1 Instant Celebrity (Bet Now: $3.40) back at the races. Star filly for Phillip Stokes that resumes after a very good Spring, which ended with a close up third in the Thousand Guineas behind Odeum. Given a good break and thought her trial win last week was a very sharp piece of work in fast time.
Think this run well be a good guide as to what path 5 Mileva (Bet Now: $8.50) takes. Do they have a crack at the Sangster with another good performance here, or do they lower expectations and look at a race like the Euclase. He was too good for the older horses in the Manihi in a really good effort from near the speed. She’ll give a bold sight. Last bit may test.
Race 7. (16:16) Auraria Stakes 1800m
This should be a winning stepping stone en route to winning the SA Oaks for 7 Steinem (Bet Now: $1.90). She just has to hold her form to be winning this and then the Oaks. She’s a star. The win she produced last time at Sandown was simply stunning and only reserved for top shelf class fillies. She’s indeed that and I can only see her winning this and then the Oaks.
10 Star Of Eden (Bet Now: $23.00) looks to have returned in good order. Not sure she beat much at Sale, but she was impressive late when her class came to the fore and she drew clear late. Did run third in the Ethereal during the Spring before being outclassed in the Oaks so I’m keen to see how she goes.
20 Biarchi (Bet Now: $67.00) is ticking along beautifully towards the Oaks. Looked back on track two back behind Casino Seventeen before going to the Clare Lindop when working home with real purpose late in the piece behind Ecumenical. Fitter and getting to a more suitable trip, she’ll take some beating.
Race 8. (16:51) R N Irwin Stakes 1100m
I’m with 2 Kemalpasa (Bet Now: $2.90). He’s a beauty for the Jolly camp that like most here, have eyes on the Goodwood. Hasn’t raced since Feb 20 when a slashing third in the Oakleigh Plate behind Celebrity Queen/Portland Sky. Was due to run in the Newmarket but was scratched. Freshened up with eyes on this Carnival and his trial last week suggested he’s ticking along beautifully.
6 Octane (Bet Now: $14.00) has the engine under the hood to be more than competitive here. He was just run off his legs fresh at Caulfield, so I’d be forgiving of that down the track effort behind Sword Of Mercy. Don’t think the tempo will be as hot this time around and he does have a fab record at Morphettville.
9 Street Life (Bet Now: $35.00) could press claims to being a worthy starter in the Goodwood with a forward showing here. He was well found at odds to win the Railway at Oakbank two weeks ago. Backed into $8.50 from well into double figures. He found the best part of the track and was pretty strong in the run to the line. Harder here, but you’d think there is improvement to come.
Race 9. (17:30) Tab (bm78) 1200m
1200m is short of her best, but 7 Wings Of Pastrami (Bet Now: $3.80) does have a touch of quality about her and I reckon that could be enough in a tricky race. She resumes after a pretty solid Spring prep, which included a close up fourth in a 90 race during Cup Week at Flemington. Trial win at Penola was sharp, she gets in well after the claim. I think she only runs well.
3 Deep Dive (Bet Now: $3.40) is a proven performer at this track and comes back to Adelaide for Team Freedman in winning form. Led throughout to win under the lights at Pakenham last time and what I liked was how strong he was to the line in fending them off and safely holding them. He’ll land near the speed and give his all.
6 Hearty Lass (Bet Now: $10.00) is a daughter of Wandjina for John Hyam that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since January 9 when I thought she was a touch disappointing at Murray Bridge after seemingly getting a perfect steer from Pannell. Pretty reliable mare fresh and is a track/distance winner.
