17/3/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

Nine races will be run and won on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Not easy to step up to city benchmark racing from a maiden but I think 5 Sandison (Bet Now: $6.00) can handle it. He ran over 1700m at Gawler last time out and fair dinkum won as if he could have won by ten. Final margin was three lengths but that definitely flattered the opposition. No qualms at 1950m and this isn’t the strongest race going around.

1 Sagaab (Bet Now: $3.40) is on the quick back up for the Travis Doudle team after racing over the 2000m on the course proper on Monday where he came off the bit well before the turn and looked as if he’d run near last, but he kept finding to run second to Lieder. First look at the Parks track, but he has the form on the board.

D-Day for sure here with 3 Silent Warrior (Bet Now: $1.95). Has been hard in the market both runs this time in but hasn’t delivered to that market expectation, the latest run coming a fortnight back on the course proper over the mile when midfield behind Daktari. One of his two career wins came at this track/distance, so no excuses for mine.

6 Coppergate (Bet Now: $2.35) clearly on top for mine. Son of Helmet that resumes for the Tony McEvoy team. This bloke kicked off his career just over 12 months ago, debuting with a second to Jukebox before finishing down the track at Sandown behind Eshtiraak. Been give a really good break and has trialled up enormous for his resumption.

13 It’s A Myth (Bet Now: $2.90) is on the quick back up for the Stokes yard after resuming over the 1000m here last Saturday where I thought she was huge in defeat given Finnegan had the filly three and four wide no cover for the entire race yet she still loomed to win before running out of condition late when second to M’Lady. Up to 1400m quickly but has class and race fitness now.

The Ryan Balfour team had a couple of runners engaged here and go with the sole rep in 2 Karmidala (Bet Now: $14.00). This son of Krupt ran over 1200m at Gawler last Wednesday and closed off really well from the back when fourth to Mighty Mick. Did run well at the mile last prep, so up to 1400m here no issue.

13 Show Pride (Bet Now: $5.00) for me. Tony McEvoy trains this filly who is on debut. She has had two trials to prepare for her first start, placing on both occasions, the latest coming last week at Gawler behind Music Bay. I think that pair are the two leading chances in this event. Just going to side with the McEvoy runner.

11 Music Bay (Bet Now: $2.50) is a well bred daughter of Choisir on debut for the Stokes team. she has won both trials impressively, firstly here on December 7 before at Gawler last week when beating Show Pride in okay time. Looks a ready made youngster and has been given a good grounding for her 1000m assignment.

1 Chevite (Bet Now: $20.00) is a son of Moshe that resumes. He debuted on the course proper back in November in a field of five and finished last behind Manzala, beaten five lengths after being hard in the market. Trials leading into this run have been quite good and he does have that race experience on his side.

1 Experimentation (Bet Now: $1.70) looks beautifully placed here by the Lloyd Kennewell team. Having the first run for the stable after formerly being with Robert Smerdon. His form from the Spring reads brilliantly for this and his recent trial at Gawler last week was outstanding to the eye. Gate one, claim for Huxtable, keen.

9 Beautiful Bee (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Tony McEvoy trained filly who broke the maiden nicely two back at Yarra Valley before going to Ballarat where she found the class a big rich behind a Oscietra, who ran along on speed and was too nippy. I think back to her own age here is a big tick and the depth is nowhere near as strong.

4 Rushwa (Bet Now: $12.00) is on the quick back up for the Ryan Balfour team after racing at this track/distance last Saturday where I thought he was far from disgraced behind a very promising type in Moon Spinner. Back to his own age should suit this gelding and his lone other start here he did win. Definite chance at odds.

6 Shrouded In Mist (Bet Now: $4.00) finds a very winnable resumption. Tony McEvoy trains this filly who had a three run Summer prep, highlighted by a spank job of her rivals to break the maiden tag over the mile on the course proper. Gawler trial last week looked quite encouraging and 1400m first up tells me she’s forward enough to run well.

4 Ancient Echoes (Bet Now: $3.10) is a Darren Weir trained son of So You Think that was confidently backed when resuming at Swan Hill and the punters got it spot on as he sat on speed under Yendall and powered clear late for a dominant victory. Stable has been flying when sending their horses to Adelaide recently and this is a very winnable assignment.

2 Tropical Lightning (Bet Now: $9.00) is a son of Barbados resuming for the in form Travis Doudle team. This bloke hasn’t raced since Melbourne Cup Day over 1800m on the course proper here when well backed but having to settle for second to Prince Of Pagoda. Can sprint well fresh and comes here with no trials, so I think he’s a definite yard/market watch.

6 Iamthekey (Bet Now: $7.00) is flying at the moment for the Sue Jaensch team and this gelding deserves a crack in town. Both of his recent wins have come over 1400m at Naracoorte and each time he has been dominant, the latest seeing him beat Naseeb, who ran well in town the start prior, so that reads well, and he maps ideally on speed.

4 Miss Identified (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Travis Doudle trained mare that is in career best form at the moment. She ran over the 1200m on the course proper a fortnight back and I thought she did a great job to get as close as she did, closing off hard from the back after looking disinterested at one point when third to Mazurek. If she is focused here, she’ll take some beating.

8 Abu Dhabi (Bet Now: $5.50) could be the knockout here at odds. He ran over 1200m on the course proper two weeks back and just got a mile back, never really in the hunt at any stage behind the in form Exalted Adam. Third up at 1400m, good gate, small field, claim for Jackie Chan, I reckon he could run a beauty.

9 Pluckit (Bet Now: $6.00) for me in a tricky 64. Mick Huxtable trains this son of Pluck, who has had two career outings, winning impressively on debut at Murray Bridge before a close up third over 1200m on the course proper during the Winter. He has had a couple of solid trials to prepare for his return and I reckon he’s wound up to win or go close fresh.

10 Let’s Tango (Bet Now: $15.00) is a beauty for the Sue Nolan yard, and I think he deserves a crack in town because he was dominant on Sunday at Clare, admittedly not against much but it was the manner in which he did it, and ran good time relative to the day. Has won in town before and this isn’t a strong race.

6 Blonde Missile (Bet Now: $14.00) is raising the bat here having start 50 and I think she can more than hold her own. She ran over 1200m at Naracoorte last time out where just copped a bit too much pressure in front and that left her gassed late when third to Millenia. Not the greatest of records in town, but has the right racing pattern.

5 Silent Ice (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing really well at the moment for the Philippe Huserot team. Just can’t quite crack it for a win. Heavily backed last time out at Gawler where he looked a good thing on paper but gee I thought he was most disappointing behind Pretiosa in only managing second, beaten nearly two lengths. A chance from the draw and a must for multiples.

13 House Of Wax…(Bet Now: $14.00) oh gee I’m not sure I can trust him but on his best form he’s right up to these. Thought he was all over a winner last time out at Balaklava last but he turned it up the final 100m and was nabbed late by Turfonic. That leaves me with serious reservations about him at 1400m, but on class, he’s in the game.

11 Staghorn (Bet Now: $7.50  is a John Hyam trained galloper who had been racing okay without winning but needed a confidence boost which is why the stable sent him to Port Lincoln and he got it there under Raquel Clark, bolting up and doing it impressively. Now that he has the confidence up, he can go on with it.

5 Despatch (Bet Now: $2.80) clearly the one to beat for mine. This bloke hasn’t raced since the 2016 Phelan Ready at Doomben in December of that year, so he has been off the scene a fair while, but his two trials leading in have been fantastic, the first of which coming in late January before being freshened up and bolting up last week at Gawler. He looks ready to go.

8 Swiss Design (Bet Now: $9.50) is finding it hard to win another race but he is racing okay despite that. Was wide no cover on speed a fortnight back over the 1050m on the course proper but despite that hard run, he fought on quite well in defeat when third to Evil Dreams, who well on Cup Day on Monday. Back to 1000m on the Parks track should suit.

3 Classy Jack (Bet Now: $9.50) is a ripping campaigner for the John Hickmott team. He ran at this track/distance last Saturday where I thought Jack Martin rode the horse a treat. Used gate one to advantage, gave a good kick in the straight and it took a very promising type in Moon Spinner to nab him. He’ll be on speed and giving a great sight.
