Eight races will be run and won on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:31) Schweppes Handicap (70) 1000m
2 Heaven’s Deal (Bet Now: $1.80) looks one of the hardest to beat for the Jolly camp. Smart daughter of Spirit Of Boom that resumes after a pretty good Spring prep, which included a placing down the Flemington straight on Oaks Day before running a shocker on the course proper and was tipped out. Resumes without a public, but surely class/quality gets her home.
4 Viduka (Bet Now: $4.20) is an interesting runner. Well named son of Stryker who debuted over 1100m at Gawler in what looked a solid enough maiden and I thought he was an impressive winner, leading all the way under Cory Parish and despite getting the staggers late, he was far too good and time was solid relative to the day. Back to 1000m no issue, lands on speed and should be hard to run down.
3 Dancer’s KIn (Bet Now: $3.60) looks a very rough winning chance. He looked a really sharp early two year old for the Stokes team but he really hasn’t grown or improved since compared to others, who have taken the next step. Resumed in the Exalted Trail race from a fortnight ago on the course proper and for mine, he was disappointing behind the Grant Young galloper. Saving grace is a handy record on the track and back to 1000m.
Race 2. (14:06) James Boags Maiden Plate 1000m
6 Holy Dancer (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Sacred Falls filly for Phillip Stokes having her first start. Looked to trial well last year before being spelled. Back in work and trialled a couple of weeks back at Gawler where she looked very impressive for mine in winning and doing it in good time relative to the morning. Stable is flying with their youngsters so clearly has to be respected.
Not a great deal of confidence in including 7 Inciter (Bet Now: $4.60), a Tony McEvoy trained filly who resumes. She hasn’t raced since debuting here in October when showing speed and fading late behind the well performed Sebrakate, which is good form for this. Can’t find a trial/jumpout for her, so market will be the guide, but she showed talent in the trial prior to the debut.
9 Vali Rose (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Ryan Balfour trained filly who had specking at odds when debuting at Gawler . Unfortunately got caught three wide on speed and got the wobbles on the turn but she kept on and was far from disgraced behind a handy one in Vinco. Stable is having a relatively good run at the moment with their younger horses and she might be one for multiples.
Race 3. (14:46) Elton John Experience July 27 Maiden Plate 1250m
8 Cazabillie (Bet Now: $3.60) on top but gee it’s a race lacking depth. He debuted over 1200m at Terang on a day where on speed/rail was the A1 spot to be and unfortunately for him, he was back and forced to come wide on the track. In the end, the run behind Thermeda wasn’t too bad at all and the form has already been franked. In the right stable and finds a very winnable race here.
3 Aiguilette (Bet Now: $3.80) is a son of Epaulette on debut for the John Macmillan stable. This bloke has had two public trials, the first of which being in September last year before having another in January, winning both and doing it nicely. I think the market will be the main guide with this horse but off the trials, he looks handy and a debut win here wouldn’t surprise.
2 Scout’s Honour (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Moshe gelding resuming. His best form is over a bit further, but this race does lack depth. Hasn’t raced since December 14 at Morhettville over the mile where he ran a solid enough fourth to String Theory in a race where the form hasn’t looked that flash. Resumes without a trial, but has hard race experience and could fill a minor spot.
Race 4. (15:26) MyPunter.com Handicap (70) 1400m
Happy to butter up on the Gordon Richards trained 2 Ice Ghost (Bet Now: $8.00). I didn’t mind him at a price when he resumed on the course proper two weeks ago over 1200m. Just found the six furlongs a tad sharp but was good late when third to Exalted Trail. Does tend to race best on the Parks track and up to 1400m with the solid run under the belt looks an ideal set up.
1 Unfair Dismissal (Bet Now: $2.70) is a son of All Too Hard for the Tony McEvoy yard resuming. He hasn’t raced since the Stutt Stakes where he was outclassed behind Leonardo Da Hinchi in a race where the form does look quite suspect, but good enough for a benchmark 70 in Adelaide. Trial win was good, got class on his side…just a little query at 1400m first up and if he’s forward enough.
6 Havana Heat (Bet Now: $5.00) is a daughter of Shamus Award resuming for the Will Clarken stable. This girl hasn’t raced since November 23 when attempting to lead all the way at the Valley but tired late and dropped out in a disappointing run. Been given a good break and looked good in a recent Gawler trial. 1400m fresh tells me the work has been put in to run well first up.
Race 5. (16:01) AAMI Handicap (70) 1400m
4 Diapason (Bet Now: $2.80) on top in what does look a rather thin race. Will Clarken trains this mare, who resumed over 1250m here three weeks ago where she just looked in need of the run for mine but still ran well when third to Lucky Fish, beaten just over a length. Hoping it’s fitness that beat her last time because up to 1400m against a fairly average bunch should see her go close.
2 Silent Ice (Bet Now: $4.20) is a real model of consistency for the Stephen Theodore stable that is rarely far away from the thick end of the price recently. He ran over 1200m on the course proper a fortnight back in a benchmark 90 and I thought he ran really well in defeat when fourth to One More Daisy, beaten just under three lengths. Back to 70 grade and back to the Parks track, he appeals.
3 Hurricane Sonny (Bet Now: $11.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth, but he’s just going so well at the moment that he has to be included. He has won four on end, the first three coming at Kangaroo Island before going to Bordertown when on speed, copping pressure, but he found plenty in the straight and was too good. Jess Eaton is a good rider of front runners, so no negative there, and her claim helps.
Race 6. (16:41) Hughes Limousines Handicap (80) 1300m
I think back to mares grade and back home can see 2 Nodoubtaboutit (Bet Now: $3.00) bounce back into the winners list. She has been racing over the short course at Caulfield/Moonee Valley in recent times and has gone close on a couple of occasions without winning. Has a fab record on the Parks track and I’m hoping for a sit/sprint scenario, because 1) she’s a query at 1300m and 2) she’s got the best turn of foot in the race.
3 Lucky Flipper (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Brian Mueller trained mare who is racing in near career best form at the moment. Just found Everyday Lady too good two back before being given three weeks off and racing over the 1250m here here she got back, copped a couple of checks and was never really in the hunt but closed off well enough behind Lucky Fish. Looks to potentially lead this field and get control, where she can be dangerous.
4 Pamela Joy (Bet Now: $5.50) could be an improver second up. Resumed over 1200m on the course proper four weeks ago where she was hunted through to hold the lead and inside, and that early burn took its toll late as she dropped out to finish near last behind Just Kappy. Much better horse second up and ideally, I’d love to see her ridden with a sit. IMO, she’s far better ridden that way.
Race 7. (17:21) TAB Handicap (70) 1950m
Going with the horse with upside, which is 8 Light The Waves (Bet Now: $2.70). Ran over the mile on the course proper four weeks ago and to the eye, she was a flop behind Cannot Be Serios, but the jock said post race that the horse would be suited over further, which she gets straight away. The win prior was dominant so perhaps indeed the ten furlongs is what she’s looking for, and this race is thin re depth.
3 Korodon (Bet Now: $6.00) is a former Chris Waller galloper that had his first run for the Jolly camp over 1700m at Gawler and despite a little bit of a struggle to eventually get there, he wore them down and got the win, albeit right on the line. Up in trip will suit him, he’s got upside and stable is having a really good run at the moment, so he has to be respected here.
7 Igitur (Bet Now: $8.00) is an Emma Hubbard trained stayer who brings different form here. Ran over 2000m on the course proper last time where he was specked in the market and for mine, he had every chance in the straight to pick them up but whacked away when third to Matamanoa. The form looks okay for this. Back in trip the concern but he’s got upside and is a winning chance.
Race 8. (18:05) Nutella Palooza April 20 Handicap (64) 1250m
4 Master Chum (Bet Now: $4.00) is a son of Clangalang for Rob Wilkinson who ran over 1200m at Murray Bridge last Wednesday where I think you can make a good case that he should have won, but unfortunately for his supporters, he bungled the start and that pretty much sealed his fate. Would love him over further, but 1250m should be okay. Just hope he jumps.
Not sure he wins but for multiples I’d definitely include 3 By The Pound (Bet Now: $6.00), who ran two weeks ago over 1200m when doing work to land on speed and he tried hard but just felt the pinch at the end when midfield behind Kabini, who ran well in a Stakes race on Monday. Back to this level, I’d love to see the button pressed early with him, lead at a good tempo and give them something to chase.
6 With A Bit Of Dash (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Chris Bieg trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since November 11 here over 1950m when doing work on speed and feeling the pinch late when down the track behind Box On Collins, who was flying at the time. Normally a mare that needs a run or two, but no trials and 1250m fresh tells me the work has been put in to run well.
