The introduction of the $1 Million The Hunter (1300m) at Newcastle will ensure that this stand alone Saturday meeting this weekend will be one of the biggest in the history of racing in the area. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Hunter Field 🏆: View the Field for The Hunter
Race 1. (13:15) Australian Bloodstock (bm88) 1850m
5 Sir Pippin (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) may just need one more, but his first up run was very good. Resumed over 1500m at Rosehill after being a scratching behind the barriers seven days prior. Was held up at times but really liked the way he poked his way through the field to run a close up fifth to stablemate Asterius. Up to 1850m looks ideal and is a clear threat in this event.
I think back in trip will suit 1 Rapido Chaparro (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) even though he might be at the end of the prep. He comes through the Tatts Cup where he looked to get every chance in front but found nothing when asked, so that tells me he might have had enough…or is 2400m too much? Nash jumps on, likely leads, controls…he’ll get every chance to bounce back.
6 House Of Cartier (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) can be a definite improver here for John Sargent. Her two runs back from a spell haven’t been too bad, both clearly over unsuitable trips, the latest over 1400m at Randwick behind Greyworm. Has since had a tick over trial at Randwick and really liked the way she ran through the line, suggesting more ground suits, which she gets here.
Race 2. (13:55) Max Lees Classic 900m
5 Panna Cotta (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) is a Fastnet Rock filly on debut for Mark Newnham and Segenhoe. This filly trialled just over three weeks ago at Warwick Farm when leading throughout under Josh Parr, beating See You Soon, who you could argue has been the best performed juvenile in Sydney so far this season, so that does read quite well for this and stable is just flying.
6 Redoute’s Image (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) is a really well bred daughter of Redoute’s Choice for Kris Lees that is on debut. This filly has had two trials in readiness for her debut, the latest coming here on the Beaumont track on Monday when leading throughout and looking to go about her business quite nicely. Bred to be above average, so keen to see how she goes here.
7 Tilia Rose (Bet Now: $3.50 TOP ODDS) is a daughter of Written Tycoon on debut for the Snowden camp. This girl has had two trials in readiness for her first start, the latest coming on November 1 when on speed and looked to move like a nice horse when winning the trial narrowly but impressively, with something in reserve. Tricky barrier, but looks have her share of ability.
Race 3. (14:30) Highway Hcp (c3) 1300m
Going each way in the shape of 14 Denmiss (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) for Wayne Hudd. This mare doesn’t win out of turn, like most here, but she tries hard and I think the key to her is a cold ride. That was the case last start in the Guy Walter at Goulburn and I really liked the way she found the line against the pattern of the day behind All Sassitude. Soft gate, the claim for Dolan, good tempo in front…I think she’ll only run well.
17 Weather Channel (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) is going well for Jeremy Gask. Was building nicely prior to last Saturday where he never really got clear air at any stage of the race yet despite that ran some good late splits, telling me the horse is on track for a win. Bigger surroundings of Newcastle should be ideal for him and the blinkers go on for Rachel King, so he ticks a few boxes.
3 Maid Marilyn (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS) is an interesting runner. John Sprague trains this mare, who hasn’t raced since July 27 in a Highway at Rosehill when looking a tired horse and found nothing behind Pat’s Nipper. This mare can sprint well fresh and looked pretty good in a recent Port Macquarie trial win. Does have city form when trained by the WaterBott team so she’s capable.
Race 4. (15:05) Sharp Electronics (bm78) 1400m
Fresh and dropping back in grade/depth looks a good set up for 2 So Taken (Bet Now: $4.40 TOP ODDS). This mare, trained by Chris Waller, hasn’t raced since the Angst Stakes on October 12 over the mile at Randwick when down the track behind Nettoyer in a disappointing effort. Been given a freshen and really liked the way she trialled behind You Make Me Smile. Hard to beat here.
I think the weight relief will really suit 8 Vitesse (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) for Chris Waller. Impressive win two back at Warwick Farm before going to Gosford when on speed and giving a good kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when a close up third to an in form Blazing Miss. Was coming back in trip that afternoon so back up to 1400m, I think she’s a leading contender.
3 Tinkermosa (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) is a daughter of Alamosa for John Sargent that resumes. This mare is first up, having not raced since July 13 at Caulfield over 1700m when placing behind the then in form Bedford, which followed a surprise win at that track and won at big odds. Been given a break and has looked pretty good in a couple of trials. Likely gets back and will be strong late.
Race 5. (15:45) Spring Stakes 1600m
Have to be with 6 Indy Car (Bet Now: $7.00) and butter up. Outstanding debut winner at Newcastle here before going to the 1400m at Rosehill two weeks ago where Tommy rode for luck and he got none when fourth to Rule The World and I think you could easily make a case that he should have won. Up to the mile, fitter, and with clear air early, I think he’s a leading chance.
All you can do is win and that is what 1 Rule The World (Bet Now: $2.05) has done in his career to date, winning 3/3. He resumed a fortnight back at Rosehill when landing near the speed and given he was first up, he was there to be run down, but showed really good ticker late under Robbie Dolan and clung on to win. You’d like to think there is good improvement to come and the 1600m should be fine.
Up to the mile on her home track, I think 11 Game Of Thorns (Bet Now: $26.00) is a big improver here. This filly is third up, so she should just about be at peak fitness. Ran over 1400m here last time out and stuck to the task well enough in defeat without really threatening when third to Commander Bell, beaten a length. Has home track advantage and upside, which are two ticks.
Race 6. (16:20) The Hunter 1300m
Giving 3 Graff (Bet Now: $3.80) one more chance before he gets a life ban. The Kris Lees stable had tried him to get into the Everest field via impressing in the Concorde, Shorts and co, and while he ran well, he wasn’t quite good enough, and by the time he got to the Premiere, the Golden Eagle wasn’t a target, so he’s been freshened up for this race and his trial win here on the Beaumont track was impressive. Going with him, just.
1 Le Romain (Bet Now: $11.00) is just an absolute beauty and I’m sure will run well. Was very disappointing in the Winx Stakes before being tipped out. Came back two weeks ago in the Redzel Stakes and was very good in defeat behind Pierata, running third, beaten just over a length. On his home track and fitter, he will take some beating. The only knock is does he want further?
12 Fiesta (Bet Now: $10.00) is an improver at odds. Thought she was very good without luck in the Sydney Stakes before going to the Redzel where she was wide with cover and loomed to be dangerous but the last little bit, she couldn’t go with them. Looks a considerable drop in depth for her this time around and from the gate, she should do no work in the run. Knockout chance.
Race 7. (17:00) Prime7 (bm88) 1300m
7 Outrageous (Bet Now: $3.20) is a progressive gelding for Team Hawkes who has returned in super order. Wide no cover fresh when a narrow third to Signore Fox before racing over this trip at Rosehill two weeks ago where Brock Ryan had him on speed and when clicked up, he put them away with relative ease and scored a decisive win. Ran well at this level first up, so he’s hard to beat.
2 Bobbing (Bet Now: $3.70) is an absolute beauty. Resumed in the Kosciuszko where he got the cheap run off the speed, got clear and finished off strongly to get close to beating Handle The Truth. 1200m is short of his best, so like the step up to 1300m and the good tempo will help his cause. The knock is the 60kg impost compared to others who are well in ie Outrageous.
Bless 14 What Could Be (Bet Now: $21.00). He provided a juicy quaddie for followers at Randwick three weeks back at $50+, sprouting wings from last to get up and win. It wasn’t surprising because the set up for him is a big track, clear air and dry ground, the same set up he should get here. More depth and he’s not a noted horse that puts wins together, but have to include him.
Race 8. (17:40) HV Premium Meats (bm78) 1500m
This looks a target race for 7 Juventus (Bet Now: $3.10). He had a little freshen up prior to racing over 1300m at Rosehill two weeks ago where he was clearly no match for Outrageous but stuck to the task very well in defeat to run fourth, beaten just under two lengths. Like him up to 1500m on his home track and the form around him prior to the freshen up does read well.
3 Mushaireb (Bet Now: $2.45) looks hard to beat on form. The Freedman trained galloper resumed at Rosehill back on September 28 and closed off strongly when a narrow second to Ranier in a race where the form has been super. The knock for me is the seven weeks between runs with no trials. Where are his fitness levels at? Market last 10-15 minutes will tell you.
Gee I wish they had run 4 Mr Reckless (Bet Now: $11.00) in the opening race because he looked a near good thing there. Just a fair resumption fresh at Warwick Farm behind Pancho in what has turned out to be an excellent form race. He then came back to 1500m at Rosehill two weeks ago and surged hard, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to stablemate Asterius. Remaining at 1500m is the knock given he wants further, but he’ll be strong late.
Race 9. (18:15) Hunter Civilab (bm72) 1200m
Going for a complete throw at the stumps in the last via 16 Come Along (Bet Now: $81.00), resuming for an in form John Sargent stable. This four year old is first up after a solid enough 3YO prep, including beaten five lengths in the Hawkesbury Guineas behind some quality types. They stepped him out over a trip towards the end but he looked a tired horse, so has had the break and the two trials have been solid enough, keeping in mind he hasn’t worn the blinkers. Burning Crown should ensure a strong 1200m, and hoping Come Along can ambush late.
The weight is the only thing turning me off re 1 Testifier (Bet Now: $5.00). He resumed over 1200m at Randwick three weeks ago where he had no luck at all in the straight and pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial behind What Could Be. I reckon up to 1400m would suit, so remaining at 1200m is the knock, along with the weight, but he’s clearly talented.
15 Plenty (Bet Now: $19.00) is a son of Zoustar for Chris Waller that resumes, having not raced since the Winter at Rosehill when struggling on the heavy track and was probably at the end of the prep behind the then in form Phaistos. Has had two trials in readiness for his return and has looked pretty good each outing. Tricky gate to overcome, but has a touch of quality.
