Eight races will be run and won this Saturday on the Parks track at Morphettville. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:28) James Boags Premium Handicap 1000m
3 Bris Vegas (Bet Now: $5.50) trialled sensationally prior to resuming at Murray Bridge last Wednesday over 1100m where he ran quite well I thought but clearly no match for the dominant winner Jayeffkay. This is a very thin two year old with little to no depth engaged, and he does have hard race experience on his side.
4 Flying Krupt (Bet Now: $2.70) is a Krupt filly on debut for the Stokes yard. The breeding suggests she’ll come to hand early in a prep and that does look to be the case given how nicely she trialled here on June 30 when running second but looking to do it easily to the eye. Confident she will measure up here.
7 Dream Of Glory (Bet Now: $10.00) is a filly that is now with the Macdonald/Gluyas team after formerly being with the Waterhouse/Bott yard. Debuted on June 17 at Newcastle and did nothing when running last to Nicci’s Gold in a maiden where the form has been franked via Commanding Witness. Very interested to see what she does here.
Race 2. (13:03) UBET Handicap (70) 1000m
1 Irish Mint (Bet Now: $6.00) for me here in a tough race for the three year olds. Richard Jolly trained youngster who attempted to lead all the way over 1200m on the course proper a fortnight back and looked to travel well but just couldn’t quite see out the 1200m, so back to 1000m here is ideal, draws well and looks the leader. Hard to beat.
5 Nodoubtaboutit (Bet Now: $3.20) is a smart filly that resumes for the Stokes yard. Showed some really good promise in the Autumn prep, which ended with a down the track effort behind NT star Desert Lashes. Looked very sharp in a trial win here a couple of weeks back and she is a bomb when produced fresh.
7 Ballista (Bet Now: $14.00) didn’t have much luck when resuming over the 900m at Murray Bridge before going the 1050m on the course proper here where she got back and held up but was sound late behind impressive winner Seattle Boom. Should be at peak fitness now and strikes a very winnable race.
Race 3. (13:38) Hughes Limousines Handicap (90) 1250m
3 Chamois Road (Bet Now: $2.60) is a beauty for the Patrick Payne yard. He is a tough, consistent type that does his own thing on speed and fights hard every start. He ran over 1250m on the Parks track a few weeks back where he sat in the 1/1 in a slowly run race before peeling wide and looming to win but the leader/winner had it too good on speed. Remains at the trip and a recent St Arnaud trial was very good.
2 Strategic Demand (Bet Now: $3.60) was six weeks between runs when racing over the 1200m at Morphettville on June 24 where he got back off the speed and looked as if he wasn’t going to win but under Raquel Clark he surged hard to get the stablemate Pepper The Pin right on the peg. Goes well on the Parks and strikes a winnable race.
6 Last Bullet (Bet Now: $18.00) comes through the race won by Strategic Demand above and I thought his effort over an unsuitable trip was solid without being spectacular. He sat off the pace and never really looked a winning chance but he stuck on and was good to the line and through it. Think he is looking for further, but he has a touch of class/quality.
Race 4. (14:18) Schweppes Handicap (64) 1250m
Not really a race I want to get involved in, but I think 11 Rain Fast (Bet Now: $12.00) represents good value here. This mare is a veteran of 103 starts and she always tries hard, as she did last Saturday at Donald where she probably should have won but had no luck at a vital stage when second to Honey magic. This is a very thin city race, so she gets a great chance.
9 Mint Collector (Bet Now: $8.00) is a nice mare for the Ken Sweeney yard who is much better than what her winning strike rate suggests. She ran over 1200m at Gawler last time out where she attempted to lead all the way and gave a decent kick but was outgunned late by Siliconni. Looks to map well here and this track does suit on speed runners.
4 Rug Rat (Bet Now: $7.50) is the one with upside and is proven in town. He stuck on well last start over the Gawler 1000m where he was near the speed and just looked to run out of condition late when fourth to Copernicus. Maps nicely here from the draw and Simon Price takes over, and he rides the Dansie/Storr horses well.
Race 5. (14:58) Womens And Childrens Hospital Handicap (82) 2250m
4 General Custer (Bet Now: $2.30) strung together a couple of sharp wins over 1950m here before going to the 2000m on the course proper where the slow tempo/soft track/weight rise hurt him in the end behind October Date. Again up in the weights, which is the worry, but he does get back to a firmer surface and the Parks track.
5 Flying Casino (Bet Now: $3.60) can be an absolute nightmare to follow but he got another win on the board a fortnight back when ridden a treat by Holder and bursting through late to win. That form was franked last week via Super Haze at Flemington. Hard to trust, but this is a very thin race and he only has to hold his form to go close.
7 Duquessa (Bet Now: $7.00) is a mare who is always around the mark in these staying races. She ran over 2600m on the course proper a fortnight back and got back in the run. Never really looked a winning threat but worked home okay late in the piece behind Flying Casino. Super Haze franked the form by winning the Banjo Paterson last Saturday. Reads well for this.
Race 6. (15:38) Steve Holloway Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Handicap (82) 1400m
7 Counter Spin (Bet Now: $4.00) had been knocking on the door to win a race this time in and that finally came a fortnight back over 1200m on the course proper here when ridden a treat by Raquel Clark to surge hard late with momentum and win. Gets beautifully in at the weights here, maps superbly and I think he is one of the better bets on the card.
10 Affray (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented gelding for Will Clarken who is also near a win but just keeps finding one or two better on the day. He ran over 1500m at Gawler last Saturday where he was one of the rare horses to make up ground from the back when second to Lady Silhouette. Hard fit now, senior rider back on and back to 1400m is perfect.
9 Sheez On Top (Bet Now: $12.00) is a handy mare who is on the seven day back up after racing at Gawler (Metro) last Saturday where she sat near a hot pace and though tired late, she stuck on nicely in defeat behind Battle Brewing. Firmer footing will help her cause, she’s fitter and does run okay here despite not winning.
Race 7. (16:18) Holdfast Insurance Handicap (82) 1000m
6 One More Daisy (Bet Now: $5.50) is a handy mare who comes through the Itz Invincible race here on June 10 where she sat off the speed and though held up a touch at a vital stage, she was never going to beat the eventual winner. Effort was still very good and proved that the fresh win was no fluke.
2 Itz Invincible (Bet Now: $1.95) had been bursting to win a race for some time and that finally came his way when racing over this track/distance on June 10. Got a soft time of it on speed under Caboche and when asked for the big effort, he kicked in and bolted up. Now he has a win on the board, he can go right on with it.
7 Classy Jack (Bet Now: $6.50) can still be a bit hit and miss at times, but gee he is racing very well in recent times and is showing more fight. He ran at Gawler (Metro) last Saturday and absolutely bolted up under Raquel Clark, leading all the way, and though there was bias, he still won by nearly eight, which is hard to do in town. Only carrying 51kg here, he’ll run along and give a great sight.
Race 8. (16:57) MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (64) 1400m
3 Eclair Attack (Bet Now: $5.50) isn’t really one of mine, but so are most of these. Phillip Stokes trained galloper who is knocking down the door to win a race but just keeps finding one or two better. Ran over the mile on the course proper two weeks ago and tried hard but just didn’t run out the 1600m behind Balf’s Choice. Back to the 1400m here is perfect and looks the one for me.
7 Tycoon Sofie (Bet Now: $7.00) is a handy mare for Kirsten Mooney who hasn’t raced since June 10 over this track/distance where she copped pressure on speed and just felt the pinch late when fourth to Sudden Wealth, who has somewhat franked the form subsequent. Key contender here on the fresh side.
13 Burnro (Bet Now: $27.00) is a bit of a fruit loop upstairs but I’m sure that if he does put it all together, he is up to these for sure. Last start came over the mile on the course proper where he did too much work and dropped out behind Mr Liberty. Claim helps and if he can get cover from the gate, I think he can perform.
