The Adelaide Spring Carnival warms up on Saturday at Morphettville with the feature being the Spring Stakes (1200m), highlighted by the return of Dalasan. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

2 So You Can (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is a horse who I think can be more than competitive in Melbourne so with that in mind, he’s clearly on top for me. Macdonald/Gluyas trained three year old that had two runs in the latter part of the Autumn to start his career. Excellent second on debut against the race shape before going to the Parks track where he was backed as if unbeatable and duly saluted. He’s better than this grade and think he can start this prep with a win.

Danger

Keen to see how 5 Celestine (Bet Now:Β $3.10) goes. Team McEvoy trained filly that comes here off the back of a debut win over 900m at Murray Bridge. On paper, nothing to jump up and down about, but did beat home Chosen Blonde (won since) and there was a good gap to third, which I like, as well as the market support. Think she can measure up.

Long Shot

3 The Multiplier (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is a very interesting runner. Son of The Factor that is on debut for the Will Clarken team. Jumped out in super order at Murray Bridge before officially trialling a week later and was able to win that, beating the well performed Theresabearinthere. Stable can throw up a good one on debut and I think he might be another.

Happy to be with 7 Just Rolling (Bet Now:Β $4.80) for Team Jaensch. I thought he was outstanding in defeat last Saturday at Murray Bridge. Got back to near last in the run but he charged home late to just miss out on the win when a close up third to Ace Of Clubs, beaten around 1.7L. He was coming back to 1800m from 2000m, so now back up to ten furlongs I do like and he clearly thrives on wet ground.

Danger

5 Classy Joe (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is racing so well this time in for John Hickmott and is a leading chance. Far from disgraced two back behind Bertwhistle before going to Bordertown where he found a relatively thin race and was strong to the line in winning. Yet to really prove himself at this level, but hard fit, in form and 2000m is ideal.

Long Shot

2 Andrea Mantegna (Bet Now:Β $3.60) is a David Jolly trained stayer who has been pretty good in a couple of runs for the new stable, the latest run being a few weeks ago at Gawler when a solid fourth to the in form Bertwhistle, who won next time out, as did the runner up Manzala, so the form just reads so well. Just wanted a rise in trip.

Bit of a throw at the stumps here each way in the shape of 5 Atomic Lokade (Bet Now:Β $21.00). She ran over 1000m two weeks ago on the Parks track where she was back near last in the run and never really a winning threat, but the last 50-75m she was making up ground. Love the booking of Vorster, she handles ground with give in it and this is a big drop in grade/depth.

Danger

2 Vieira (Bet Now:Β $6.00) looks ready to win for Lean Conlon. Had the sit off the fast speed a couple of weeks ago on the Parks track and he was the first wave in putting away the leaders, but had no answers for Silverhawk and Danger Deal, who had the sit on him. That was his second run off a five week freshen up, so he should be cherry ripe here and he loves wet ground.

Long Shot

The best version of 7 Fortune Follows (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is certainly capable. Has had a couple of runs now for the Gordon Richards team and has been pretty good each time he has stepped out, the latest effort coming three weeks ago here when making ground late to run third to the in form Classy Jaybee. Being by Akeed Mofeed, wet track should be okay although his two soft track efforts have been plain.

Race 4. (14:11) West Adelaide F.c. (bm68) 2500m

3 Hasta La Fiorente (Bet Now:Β $2.30) clearly for me. Was on him at this track/distance three weeks ago and he should have won. He was his own worst enemy by wanting to pull his head off throughout. Was entitled to drop away but actually surged in the straight and almost won, but was pipped late by Manzala. If he relaxes in the run, he wins.

Danger

1 Exalted Ruth (Bet Now:Β $3.40) is a beauty for Grant Young. Just such a tough mare that puts in every time she steps out. That was the case again last Saturday at Gawler over 1800m when back and closing off hard, with the bob of the head being the difference between her and Ace Of Clubs. Back up in trip I like and is proven to do well on the back up.

Long Shot

2 Turf Man (Bet Now:Β $4.80) can run an improved race at odds. He comes through the Manzala race from three weeks back here when ridden a bit upside down on speed, albeit the tempo was slow. Probably entitled to finish off his race a bit better, but as I said, was ridden against his normal pattern. With a more conservative steer, he can bounce back.

Race 5. (14:51) Schweppes (bm72) 1600m

Back Me

2 Territory Titan (Bet Now:Β $2.20) has simply been too good for them in 64 grade at his past four so despite the class/depth rise, I think he can measure up. Copped pressure in front last time out over 1550m on the Parks track but beat it off and he spanked them, his first win on dry ground, so he’s flying and I think he can win again.

Danger

4 Blow Torch (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is three weeks between runs for the McEvoy camp after racing at this track/distance where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a really good kick from the front but just found one too good in the shape of the in form Analytica. He’s racing really well this time in and should be around the mark again.

Long Shot

7 Going Gaga (Bet Now:Β $17.00) has had two runs for Mick Kluske and has been pretty good each time. Forgive the first up run when not really handling the wet track. Found firmer footing on the Parks track a fortnight back and worked home well late when third to Left Hand Man. Fitter and up to the mile I do like and is a proven Saturday class performer.

Race 6. (15:31) Fleurieu Milk Company (bm58) 1506m

Back Me

3 Meehni (Bet Now:Β $2.40) looks the most obvious. Team McEvoy trained mare that resumed in a 1400m Balaklava maiden back on July 29 when back just off the speed before Vorster angled wider to what was the best part of the track, and away she went, going on to win by nearly five. Finds a winnable 58 and will take some beating with natural improvement.

Danger

1 Rothmoore (Bet Now:Β $3.90) is a Ricky Moore trained gelding that’s racing in career best form this time in. Impressive winner two back over 1550m on the Parks track before remaining at that same set up a few weeks ago and looked the winner for a few strides, but had to settle for second to Territory Titan. Racing well, saves his best for wet tracks and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

6 Taberna (Bet Now:Β $11.00) deserves another chance. Was keen on her when she raced on the Parks track two weeks ago but just got too far back in an on pace dominated affaor won by the very much in form territory Titan. Now drops to 58 grade, which is her level, and I think the overall depth here is nowhere near as strong.

The class of 1 Dalasan (Bet Now:Β $3.70) gets him home here. Won this race as a three year old last year, beating Scales Of Justice. Is he a better horse 12 months on? I’d say yes. Somewhat disappointing campaign in Melbourne, though was outstanding in the All Star Mile. Went down the Derby path when back home in Adelaide and ran second to Russian Camelot in the big one, which is A1 form. Loved the jumpout last week and on class, he wins.

Danger

The Macdonald/Gluyas team has an absolute weaponry when it comes to their 3YO cavalry this Spring so the fact they go with 12 Extra Time (Bet Now:Β $8.00) interests me. They won this race last year when Dalasan was a three year old. Not sure Extra Time is at that level, but he’s pretty good and got better with each run last prep, highlighted by his National Stakes spank job. He’s a key threat for sure.

Long Shot

Highly doubt 7 Crown Fontein (Bet Now:Β $35.00) wins but for multiples, could certainly include with hard race fitness under the belt. Ran over 1000m on the Parks track two weeks ago when one of the first off the bit but he kept chasing and was a definite pass mark when third to Brimarvi Vehero. Can add value to exotics if he can get on speed and not do a great deal of work.

Found this one of the more tricky events on the card. Fascinating runner is 5 Galahad Guru (Bet Now:Β $11.00), who resumes for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable. This guy hasn’t raced since March 2019 when as a three year old, missing his entire 4YO season, so not sure the reason for that, but he has looked pretty good in both a Morphettville jumpout and Balaklava trial. He’s got the quality to be in the mix, so watch the market.

Danger

3 Beeokay (Bet Now:Β $8.00) deserves another chance. He ran on the Parks track two weeks ago and I’d be very forgiving of his effort. Caught wide throughout on a hot speed and just tired late, but was still more than sound in defeat behind Silverhawk. Draws much better this time around, likes wet ground and senior jock takes over.

Long Shot

The one that is up and going, fit and in form is 10 Double Blue (Bet Now:Β $9.50), an almost white mare that finally broke her maiden tag on the Parks track two weeks ago, leading throughout and kicking on strongly to fend them off and win. Promoter came out of that to win last Saturday at Murray Bridge, so the form has been ticked off and she’s got the right racing pattern.

Race 9. (17:30) M&j Chickens (bm58) 1100m

11 Outpost (Bet Now:Β $13.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but I think Toots has him going well. He ran last Wednesday at Gawler where he was run off his legs early but as the pace dropped out, he tracked up beautifully behind the speed and looked the winner when he cut back inside, but couldn’t quite finish it off. If the breaks go his way, he’s got the ability to win.

Danger

Giving respect to 9 Narrative Star (Bet Now:Β $5.00) for Team McEvoy, who has had a couple of runs back from a spell, each run coming at Gawler, with the second run resulting in a maiden win when leading throughout and what I liked is the ticker she showed because she was there to be run down but kicked hard and was too good. Harder here, but has the right racing pattern.

Long Shot

12 Wonder If (Bet Now:Β $17.00) is capable. Team Jolly trained gelding that was far from disgraced two back behind Kingson before backing up a few days later at Balaklava when back and flashing home late to just miss out on picking up speed demon Domination. Speed looks like it will be genuine here, so he’ll get his chance.
