1 Silvera (Bet Now: $7.50) for me. Former Tony McEvoy galloper who had his first run for Tony Gollan in the Spear Chief two weeks ago when back in the run and did make up ground late in an eye catching resumption behind Redouble. Significant drop in grade/depth for this five year and up to the 1666m with a great second up record, he does appear one of the hardest to beat.

Danger

10 Angel Dane (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Steve Tregea trained mare who is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Eagle Farm where I thought Larry Cassidy gave the mare every chance and she tried hard. Just didn’t quite see the trip out at that level when a close up third to the in form Barry Lockwood runner Cruze. Fresh legs and back a notch in depth, she does appeal.

Long Shot

11 Karakabeel (Bet Now: $13.00) looks to be racing in okay form at the moment for the Tony Gollan stable. Ran over 1700m here last time when off the speed and chasing hard in a strong performance to run to Lota Creek Gold. Not sure he has got the class to beat a few of these, but does have a good record at Ipswich and he should be hard fit now. One for multiples.

Race 2. (12:13) Sirromet Bundamba Plate 1100m

10 Jeweliana (Bet Now: $4.80) is bred to be a handy horse and she’s done nothing to suggest otherwise. Was well supported when debuting at the Sunny Coast and she absolutely bolted in, getting the box seat run before a gap nearer the inside appeared and she went through her gears like a good horse. Looks above average and confident she can handle the step up in depth/grade.

Danger

1 Ready To Roam (Bet Now: $3.60) is a son of Better Than Ready for the Tony Gollan stable who had class on his side when winning his maiden first up at the Sunny Coast before going to the Oxlade two weeks ago at Doomben and loved the way he found the line late when fourth to Diamond Thunder. That confirmed that he’s far better on dry ground, and third up, should be ready fitness wise.

Long Shot

8 Magic Trick (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Tony Sears trained youngster who has been scratched from a much easier race on his home track at Toowoomba to be saved for this so interested to see how he goes. Ran over 1100m last time out at Gatton when getting the suck run behind the speed before getting clear and putting them away impressively. Draws to get a sweet run and loses little with G Boss taking over.

Race 3. (12:48) Sky Racing Handicap (Class 6) 1200m

2 Oink…(Bet Now: $11.00) ah Oink. Bless him. He’s back. He is an honest galloper who will try hard…for the most part, but there has been times where he has looked the winner but turned it up. Returns for another prep and his best efforts in recent preps have come early on in the campaign and he looks to have returned well if the recent trial win is any guide.

Danger

8 Smartypy (Bet Now: $2.90) is an Ipswich specialist and Chris Munce has done a fab job with this mare, getting her some blacktype next to her name last time out in the Helen Coughlan at Doomben when a closing third to Multaja. Back to her fav track, back to 1200m, still remaining down in the weights with Cormack remaining on, she’s clearly a leading chance.

Long Shot

3 Taillevent (Bet Now: $26.00) is a couple of weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Doomben a fortnight ago where he was back in the run in a race dominated by those in front so for mine, he was a total forgive behind Meet Mr Taylor. Depth nowhere near as strong here and he has run well at Ipswich before so an improved showing certainly wouldn’t shock at all.

Race 4. (13:23) Ray White Ipswich Handicap (75) 1350m

Back Me

2 Tisani Magic (Bet Now: $3.40) is in a purple patch of form at the moment for the Kevin Kemp stable. Ran over this track/distance last time when wide no cover for the trip and was entitled to drop away, but he kept finding under Bayliss and was too strong on the line. Hopefully can get cover from the draw and with the claim isn’t badly in at the weights with decent form behind him.

Danger

6 Johnny Whitesox (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Chris Munce trained gelding who has won his last two outings, the latest coming over 1200m at the Sunny Coast when back off the speed before getting splits between runners and bursting through powerfully late to dash and put them away for an impressive win. Despite the tricky gate, he’s a horse in form and has to be respected.

Long Shot

11 Rosie Posie (Bet Now: $8.00) is one who certainly shouldn’t be left out of the equation, especially for Trifectas/First Fours. Was good here two back behind Starkers before going to the Sunny Coast when back and making ground late behind Tardis. Was 1350m-1200m that day so back up to 1350m and back to a track she has recently run well at, she is a knockout chance.

Race 5. (13:58) Provincial Stayers Final (78) 2500m

Waddle your finger and hope for the best here. In saying that, do think that the Michael Lakey trained 7 Brocson (Bet Now: $10.00) has been around the mark of late and this race doesn’t appear to be strong re depth. He comes through a 2400m race at the Sunny Coast where he got a mile off them in the run but liked the way he found the line very late when a close up fourth to Ruby Guru. Two time winner at Ipswich and 2500m should be fine.

Danger

9 It Ain’t All Honey (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Real Saga for Desleigh Forster who comes through the Ruby Guru race from the Sunshine Coast where he was tightened at the start and that perhaps took the stuffing out of him when fifth to the Mick Nolan mare, beaten just under a length and far from disgraced. The 2500m is a little query with him, but it is a very winnable race.

Long Shot

12 Cushy Princess (Bet Now: $31.00) should have no trouble with the trip for the Marcus Wilson team. This mare was solid enough in defeat two back at the Gold Coast behind Grand Bouquet before going to Murwillumbah over 2000m when appreciating the drop in depth and getting the job done. Ran well over 2480m last time in, so distance no issue and on dry-ish ground, she does have a turn of foot.

Race 6. (14:37) Schweppes TL Cooney Handicap 1100m

Back Me

7 Winter Passage (Bet Now: $7.50) is a daughter of I Am Invincible resuming for the in form Stuart Kendrick stable. This filly hasn’t raced since March 30 in a F&M race at Doomben when running third to Cymbalism, and that form reads well with that mare going on to place in the Silk Stocking. Liked the way she went in a recent trial and does have quite a good fresh record.

Danger

2 Spirit’s Choice (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Matt Kropp trained filly who has had six weeks off since contesting the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast when on speed and trying hard but at that level on that bog track, she was found out behind Demerara, but far from disgraced. Like her back to 1100m on firmer ground and if she’s anywhere near right, she’ll take some beating here.

Long Shot

18 Chazelles (Bet Now: $19.00) looks a talented filly for Matty Dunn. Trialled brilliantly prior to resuming on her home track at Murwillumbah where she took on scrubs and won accordingly, justifying the Winx-like odds on offer. Time was solid relative to the day but bear in mind that Fradd didn’t really ask for an effort, so she could have easily gone quicker. Keen to see what she does.

Race 7. (15:17) Ipswich Cup 2150m

Back Me

One of the weaker editions of the Ipswich Cup that I can recall. Tony Pike has had a fab Winter Carnival and I think his mare 10 Terra Sancta (Bet Now: $7.00) can get the job done here. She was really well backed when racing over 1700m here last time but she couldn’t take advantage of gate one and was never a factor despite making ground late behind Lota Creek Gold. Up to an idea trip with weight relief, an improved showing certainly wouldn’t shock.

Danger

2 Bergerac (Bet Now: $4.60) is on the seven day back up for the Steve Tregea stable after racing in the Wayne Wilson last Saturday where again, not much went right for him and should have finished a bit closer behind Vinland. Bit of an unknown at the trip, but has raced in the past to suggest it wouldn’t be too much of an issue, and again, this is not a strong race for mine.

Long Shot

3 First Crush (Bet Now: $15.00) looked to be going alright for Chris Munce prior to last start in the Premiers Cup where he was just off a strong speed and looked to be going okay but as soon as the big effort was asked for, he didn’t find much and was most disappointing behind The Candy Man. Back to this sort of level, he is well placed and an improved showing wouldn’t shock at all.

Race 8. (15:57) Eye Liner Stakes 1350m

If he handles Ipswich, I think 11 Gaulois (Bet Now: $5.50) wins. Resumed in a Class 6 at Doomben two weeks ago where he really had no chance after 200m given the winner Meet Mr Taylor got the picnic in front and turned it into a real dash home. Gaulois was outstanding late when a closing third. Extra trip, fitter, stack of upside…just needs to handle the track and he’ll just about be winning.

Danger

5 Mr Marbellouz (Bet Now: $7.50) has been set for this race and looks to be spot on for it. Glad to see they have taken a sit with him in recent starts, showing he ain’t a one tricky pony and that he can sit off the speed and chase, like he did in the Spear Chief, producing great late splits behind Redouble. This is the race the stable have targeted this prep and he comes here as a leading chance.

Long Shot

Tony Gollan has done a fab job with 13 Natch (Bet Now: $12.00) this time in. Looked a tad outclassed in the Spear Chief on paper but things fell into place beautifully, getting the soft lead and he gave a really good kick. Just the hard fitness of Redouble beat him on the line. He looks the leader once again and now that he’s hard fit, he should be stronger at the end of the race.

Race 9. (16:32) Gai Waterhouse Classic 1350m

Back Me

6 Organza (Bet Now: $2.60) is bursting to win a blacktype race and I think she gets a great chance here. Just ran out of puff first up in the Dark Jewel at Scone when a narrow third to Con Te Partiro before going to Randwick where she tried hard but was no match for the in form Renewal. Third up now, so she should be ready fitness wise and stable rarely gets it wrong when on the road for these mares races.

Danger

What to make of the win of 4 Manaya (Bet Now: $3.20)? Her first up win last Saturday was simply unbelievable. The off side rein broke, so Guthman-Chester was forced to take off on the mare, near the outside fence, and was entitled to drop away, but she won like Winx and absolutely bolted in. If she runs up to anything like that, she will go close. Just rather watch than back.

Long Shot

15 So Far Sokool (Bet Now: $27.00) has been a bit of an enigma for Archie Alexander but she’s showed enough to suggest she can figure in the finish. She was awful at Warrnambool before bouncing back with a solid third to King’s Brook at Flemington a few weeks ago. Was well held, but didn’t turn it up and stuck on well. If she brings her best, she’ll go close to winning. Interesting to see how she goes under the care of Kacy Fogden.
