Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:32) ASCOT GREEN QTIS 2YO Hcp 1000m
1 Rothfire (Bet Now: $1.90) does look an exciting prospect for Rob Heathcoate that is potentially on the Golden Slipper path. Had two runs in the Spring to start his career and was brilliant each time, winning both in fast time and the subsequent form around him does read very well. Trial win was sharp and you’d think only bad luck beats him.
Want to give 3 Dark Son (Bet Now: $23.00) another chance. This guy was well supported when racing over this track/distance a few weeks ago but unfortunately got stuck wide throughout and couldn’t come on behind impressive winner Mishani Miss. Just jump and let him run please, like they did when he bolted up on debut at Toowoomba.
4 Mishani Fraudster (Bet Now: $35.00) has the hard race experience under the belt without winning. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when getting a good run off the speed from the gate and tried hard but couldn’t quite win when second to Uncle Frank. Has early speed and can use it if required. Not sure he wins, but a must for multiples.
Race 2. (14:07) EVENTS @ BRC (bm90) 2200m
Have to be with 8 Torrens (Bet Now: $2.80) for Ethan Ensby. 4/4 to start his career, the latest win coming three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast in a similar race to this when really putting them away to win impressively and potentially stamp himself as a Queensland Derby candidate. This race doesn’t look overly stronger and he just attacks the line with purpose.
Fitter and up in trip are two big ticks for the Rob Heathcoate trained 4 Our Mantra (Bet Now: $4.80). This bloke was a real eye catcher first up behind Akage before stepping up to 1800m two weeks ago and loomed to win but it just looked like his condition gave out late behind Cool Chap. Up in trip, with upside, he’s a leading chance.
I reckon 3 Morendi (Bet Now: $41.00) is sneaky going well and a blowout chance here. Comes through the Cool Chap race from two weeks ago over 1800m, a trip clearly short of his best, but found the line pretty well to be beaten just under five lengths. Finally gets to a suitable distance and a win certainly wouldn’t shock at all. Definitely include in multiples.
Race 3. (14:42) No Metro Wins Handicap 1000m
8 Usmanov (Bet Now: $2.25) for me. Team Edmonds trains this four year old, who was around six weeks between runs when racing over 1000m here a few weeks ago and really liked the way he found the line from the back when a close up fourth to the in form Emerald Kingdom. With fresh legs again, he should take some beating.
7 Jardin Rouge (Bet Now: $6.50) has to be the yard/market watch here. First up for Brian Wakefield after a decent enough Autumn/Winter prep, which saw her win impressively first up before being tested in Sydney before a failure at Doomben then spelled. Two trials leading in have been quite good, Cassidy remains on and her best is clearly enough.
1 Desert Digby (Bet Now: $14.00) can be a big improver here at odds if he brings anything near his best form. Did too much work on speed first up behind Vienna Power before racing behind Jami Lady where on face value, he was terrible, but was found to be lame post race. Has had a few weeks off to be saved for this and if he’s near his best, this is winnable for him.
Race 4. (15:17) QTIS 3YO Handicap 1000m
1 Better Reflectionon (Bet Now: $3.10) top. John Wigginton has a really good filly on his hands here and I thought she was outstanding in winning first up at the Sunny Coast three weeks back. She was going into that race first up since November off one soft 500m trial. 12/10 ride from Brad Stewart and her class got her home. You’d like to think there is enormous upside is hard to beat.
2 Jagged Edge (Bet Now: $5.00) is a quality three year old for Stuart Kendrick that was heavily backed when resuming over 1000m on his home track at the Sunny Coast and despite a couple of nervous moments, class got him home and he was far too good. Tricky draw, but has early toe and if he can get over, he’ll take some beating.
11 Exondabeach (Bet Now: $4.60) is an interesting runner. The Sears camp trains this filly, who debuted over 1000m at the Sunny Coast when confidently supported late and the bets were landed with a commanding performance from off the speed and running some of the better late splits of the meeting. Think she can measure up here.
Race 5. (15:58) FAMILY RACEDAY APRIL 4 OPEN Hcp 1400m
He’s an absolute beauty is 7 Impasse (Bet Now: $2.35) and I’m happy to be in his corner again. He was very genuine when racing with Chris Waller and he’s lost none of that now that he is with Matty Dunn. Resumed with an eye catching second to Pennino before stepping up to this track/distance two weeks ago and sprouted wings out wide for an impressive win. Hard to beat here.
1 Cruze (Bet Now: $4.80) is starting to become a bit of a money muncher for punters, but he’s been a horse I haven’t really been with this prep, so I’ll include him here. On face value, disappointing behind Mishani El Lobo, but was one of many not suited by the slow tempo. Has a good gate to sit near the speed and is hard to beat if he holds his form.
5 Fortensky (Bet Now: $8.50) is an improver for Chris Waller. He comes through the Mishani El Lobo race from two weeks ago where he had a soft run in transit off the slow speed and once he presented, he looked dangerous, but his condition gave way late and tired to run fourth. He’ll come on from that and should be suited up to 1400m.
Race 6. (16:38) ANZAC DAY RACES APRIL 25 1800m
8 Missed The Alarm (Bet Now: $10.00) for me here. Steve O’Dea trains this mare, who resumed over the mile here two weeks ago where she was off the speed, getting a good run in transit, but didn’t really threaten behind The Kingdom. In saying that, the run wasn’t terrible. Just needed the run. Up to 1800m and getting good weight relief are two big ticks.
9 Twilighter (Bet Now: $4.50) is on the seven day back up for Desleigh Forster after bolting up at this track/distance last Saturday. Was put into a dream spot just off the speed before peeling on the turn and really, the race was over 300m from home. Has run okay on the back up before when trained by Chris Waller, but this mare looks to be flying with Forster.
5 Glen Ord (Bet Now: $18.00) can improve back in depth somewhat. Contested an open handicap over this trip two weeks ago where he was well held by Cool Chap but was far from disgraced I thought given he looked seriously tested on paper. This looks more his level and his form prior was good enough to take out a race like this.
Race 7. (17:18) Fillies and Mares Plate (c3) 1200m
11 Denman Unlimited (Bet Now: $5.50) on top for me. Brett Cavanough trains this filly, who ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she got back off the speed but got inside splits and for a few strides looked a serious threat to the hot pot Shalwa, but the class of that mare kicked in and was too good, but this filly didn’t throw in the towel. Back to her own sex, she’s hard to beat.
Back to 1200m does look idea for the Tony Gollan trained filly 15 Ingear (Bet Now: $2.80), who ran over 1400m here two weeks ago where she got a really good run just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to the in form Baroda. Like her back to 1200m, right down in the weights…just a matter of what upside is left.
8 Fantasay (Bet Now: $81.00) has been excellent in two runs back from a break for Ben Ahrens. Really caught the eye first up at Dalby before going to Toowoomba when given a lovely ride from Corey Bayliss and surged hard late to win. Big track, 1200m, sitting off a good speed…set up is there for her to run a beauty at odds.
Race 8. (18:00) Colts, Geldings and Entires Plate (c3) 1200m
Draw makes it tricky, but happy to give 2 Fortification (Bet Now: $18.00) a chance first up. This bloke is with Team Edmonds after formerly being trained by Gwenda Markwell. Showed some promise in NSW before being sent north. Did a bit wrong in the trial last week but loved the way he put them away late and did it in fast time. If he can overcome the gate, he’ll take some beating.
8 Heritage Sash (Bet Now: $3.10) is a son of I Am Invincible for Team Edmonds that resumes. This gelding hasn’t raced since October 7 at Doomben when running a well held second to Ashman, who at the time was flying. Been given a good break and has trialled up very well leading in. Just watch the market and see what it does with him.
10 Navy (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Steve O’Dea trained gelding that should take good improvement off the resumption at Doomben where he led and gave a reasonable kick but clearly didn’t have the turn of foot to go with Snowzone. Fitter and up to 1200m on a bigger track looks a good set up. More patient steer wouldn’t hurt either I don’t think.
Race 9. (18:40) ASIAN RACING CONFERENCE Plate (c6) 1400m
6 Magnufighter (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Gary Duncan trained gelding that is second up here, having resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed and battling away pretty well in defeat when fourth to Impasse. Beaten narrowly by the well performed Smartedge second up last prep and that form line does read well for this.
13 Red Chase (Bet Now: $4.50) can be an improver at odds. Resumed over 1000m here four weeks ago where he just looked in need of the run and that is how it panned out behind Emerald Kingdom. Due to wet weather, his prep has been disrupted so jumps straight to 1400m here, but on prior form, he’s good enough to beat these.
10 Femme Fireball (Bet Now: $5.50) is going very well for Rob Heathcoate and is knocking on the door to win one. Caught the eye late first up behind Pennino before going to the Mishani El Lobo race from a fortnight back where the tempo was clearly against her but she stuck on well enough to get third. Think 1400m should be okay and is hard to beat.
