Bendigo will host their Saturday standalone meeting this weekend with a cracking program, headlined by the Golden Mile (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:25) : Mypunter.com Handicap (84) 1100m:
Back Me: 7 Tigidig Tigidig (Bet Now: $5.50) is a gelding that has found a new lease of life in recent times. He was forever going to be known as a non winner but that has changed in recent times, with the six year old winning three on the bounce, the latest coming over 1200m at Moonee Valley a tick over three weeks ago. Isn’t badly treated at the weights and how can you ignore him when he is in this vein of form.
Big Danger: 2 Sebrign Sun (Bet Now: $3.50) can be a very hard horse to trust and follow, but gee he finds a very winnable race here. He comes through the Abell at the Valley where he sat back near last in the run and picked his way through the field to finish off quite nicely late behind Bassett. That form was of course franked in the Hareeba. Claim for Allen, good draw and should be ready fitness wise.
Long Shot: They look as if they will go hard in front here, so a horse like 5 Lonrockstar (Bet Now: $8.00) comes into play here. He is another that isn’t the most reliable for punters, but he finished off hard last time out down the Flemington straight when third to Rocket Tommy. Draws to stalk the fast speed and have the last say.
Race Two (13:00) : VRC Trophy (70) 1000m:
Back Me: 5 Sacred Sham (Bet Now: $2.20) on top for me here. He showed a really good turn of foot to win on debut at Seymour before going to Sandown Hillside last Wednesday where he chased a genuine speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite hold out the Stakes performed Motown Lil. Third up now, remains at the 1000m and draws to get a lovely sit. Keen.
Big Danger: 3 If Not Now When (Bet Now: $14.00) is a smart filly that resumes for the Henry Dwyer yard. Showed really good promise early on in the career but just didn’t quite measure up when the going got tough. Been given a little break and has trialled up well leading in. Will be interesting to see what the market does.
Long Shot: 8 Pearl Congenial (Bet Now: $14.00) is a nippy filly for Robert Smerdon who is first up here. Won a couple of races during the Summer before going to Flemington and racing like a tired horse behind Navagio. Cranbourne trial was quite encouraging and she does tend to race best when produced fresh.
Race Three (13:35) : AgVantage UAV VOBIS Gold Rush 1000m:
Back Me: 1 Wait For No One (Bet Now: $4.20) is a smart youngster for the Hayes/Dabernig team who has been given a little break since running in the Blue Diamond where he was far from disgraced behind stablemate Catchy. This looks more his level and I think back to 1000m is a big tick. Major player.
Big Danger: 2 Seized (Bet Now: $7.00) was outstanding in defeat on debut I thought at the Valley. His early splits on speed were the fastest of the entire meeting, so he was entitled to drop out, but to his credit he fought on strongly to be nabbed by a good one in Muraaqeb. Looks to map well here to sit outside Wait For No One or lead. Either way, he ticks alot of boxes.
Long Shot: 11 Je Suis Tycoon (Bet Now: $9.50) is the big watch here. Frist starter for Henry Dwyer who looks a filly who will win races and could well win here. Trialled up brilliantly I thought at Cranbourne when never let go where she could have won by a space had she been let down. Draws a sticky gate, but can’t ignore her.
Race Four (14:10) : Jayco Handicap (84) 2400m:
Back Me: Hard to ignore what 3 Snitzelwood (Bet Now: $4.60) did to his rivals last Saturday at Mornington over 2000m. Led all the way on what was a day where leaders were certainly advantaged, but take nothing away from the fact he did lead all the way at a decent clip and put a margin on his rivals. He has won up to 2200m and toughed it out there, so the 2400m here is no issue, plus he gets map favours.
Big Danger: 9 Richard Of Yorke (Bet Now: $2.90) had been bursting to win a race for some time, but he just wasn’t quite able to put it all together. That all changed last time out over 2400m at Sandown where he was gifted the lead and absolutely trotted up. Now that he has that winning feeling, he can go right on with it.
Long Shot: Don’t be entirely shocked to see an improved showing from 7 Now And Ze (Bet Now: $61.00). He comes through that race Richard of Yorke saluted in and I think just forget he went around given he was a significant drifter in the market and I doubt he was entirely happy on the shifty surface. The two jump trials prior were sharp and getting back onto a firmer surface here is a big tick.
Race Five (14:50) : Schweppes Australia Handicap (78) 1300m:
Back Me: 4 Leodoro (Bet Now: $7.00) is a talented galloper for the Mick Kent yard who had confident market support when racing on Yarra Valley Cup Day over 1200m and he did look in a spot of bother on the home turn but the breaks came his way and he dashed right away for a dominant win. Proven city performer who looks well placed here despite the tricky gate.
Big Danger: 7 Cannyescent (Bet Now: $4.80) is a smart customer for the Hayes/Dabernig team. Won at his first start for the stable at Ballarat before going to Flemington where the bias/tempo was against him behind Top Me Up. On a fairer racing surface here, he can bounce back here. Third up, so he should be ready.
Long Shot: 12 Curvano (Bet Now: $21.00) had confident market support when racing over 1400m at Pakenham a couple of Thursday nights back and the punters faith was rewarded with a gritty on speed win. 1400m sees him right out I think, so back to 1300m is ideal for him, and the spacious surroundings that Bendigo has to offer is a big tick.
Race Six (15:30) : Catanach’s Jewellers Gold Bracelet 1400m:
Back Me: 2 Catch A Fire (Bet Now: $8.00) has been crying out for further and she gets it here, so I’m happy to be in her corner here. She ran down the straight at Flemington over 1200m where she sat off the pace and tried hard but was just no match for Lake Como. The 1400m is her go and she should be ready fitness wise.
Big Danger: 8 Diamond Baroness (Bet Now: $6.50) is the interesting mare here. Hasn’t raced for a month since attempting to lead all the way in the Tressady at Flemington and she gave a good kick but just couldn’t quite finish it off. Clearly not as much depth here and does map quite well it would seem.
Long Shot: 6 Queen Of Wands (Bet Now: $21.00) was a big flop when racing over the mile at Flemington a fortnight back where she was completely unwanted in betting and ran accordingly behind Strike Force. Perhaps a bit of give in the track will help her cause here. Not sacking yet but this is D-Day for her.
Race Seven (16:10) : Bet365 Golden Mile 1600m:
Back Me: 1 Burning Front (Bet Now: $3.20) is an absolute beauty for Darren Weir. He is putting together a brilliant CV and should take a power of beating here. He comes through the CS Hayes on Adelaide Cup Day where he sat on speed and surged hard when asked to win again. He can continue the picket fence here.
Big Danger: Just forget that 3 Jacquinot Bay (Bet Now: $21.00) and his resumption over 1400m at Flemington given he was wide no cover on a pretty strong tempo and had to fade out of the finish, which he did. I think if Parish pushes forward here, he can slot in to be two/three pairs back on the outside in a real stalking spot. He can definitely bounce back here.
Long Shot: 14 Plot The Course (Bet Now: $17.00) is a talented galloper for the Michael Trotter camp who resumed over 1400m at Flemington in the Super Saturday and did a really good job from where he was in the run to finish off with purpose behind Hellova Street. Again draws awkwardly, but he does have a good second up record and will be strong late.
Race Eight (16:50) : Rich Enuff At Woodside Park Stud Bendigo Guineas 1400m:
Back Me: I think 12 Get Ready For Love (Bet Now: $17.00) is the value engaged here. Smart looking filly for the Gwenda Johnstone camp who is two from two for her career. Debut win at Swan Hill was solid before she took on the older horses at Wangaratta and gee I thought she was impressive there. That’s a big tick for me for a filly to do that at her second career outing and I think she can measure up here.
Big Danger: 2 Achi Baba (Bet Now: $7.00) comes to Victoria to dodge the Sydney wet. Last raced in the Pharlap (1500m) where he looked to travel well on speed but just tired late behind Foxplay. This looks more his level, back to 1400m suits, maps well and most importantly gets a firmer surface. Definite threat.
Long Shot: 3 Sword Of Light (Bet Now: $10.00) ran over 1100m down the Flemington straight a couple of weeks back and tried hard in the run but just lacked the turn of foot when fourth to Hear The Chant. Looks ready for the 1400m now and maps well. Leading contender despite the quick rise to 1400m from 1100m.
Race Nine (17:30) : Gold FM 98.3/AM 1071 Handicap (90) 1400m:
Back Me: 11 Pay Up Bro (Bet Now: $5.50) has been very good in two runs back from a break. Stuck on well fresh in the Apache Cat before going to the St Pats Cup at Geelong where the slow tempo was against him. Third up now, so he should be ready and gets his chance for mine. But he can be hard to trust.
Big Danger: 9 Unbreakable (Bet Now: $4.80) had confident market support when racing over 1400m at Sandown and it took a lovely steer from Craig Williams to get the win over This Kid Rocks, who has been in super form recently. He only has upside here and stable has a good record at Bendigo. Leading contender.
Long Shot: 3 Setinum (Bet Now: $26.00) is a local galloper who could provide some value here at odds. He resumed down the straight at Flemington where he sat back near last in the run and pretty much stayed there behind Rocket Tommy. Good record on his home track and is a second up winner. Big improver.
