Group l racing continues at Morphettville this Saturday where it is SA Derby Day, and also note the first three races will be run on the Parks track. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres from the 1800m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:07) The Junction (Bm62) 1000m
Pretty keen on 8 Speed Lover (Bet Now: $6.00) to get back into the winners list. Resumed against the older horses at Mildura and I think if Tatum Bull pulled the whip into the left hand, the filly wins the race instead of a narrow second to General Mint. Back to her own age, on speed, she’ll take beating.
2 Kolokar (Bet Now: $8.00) is a son of Vadamos for Team Jolly that resumes. I don’t think he did too bad of a job in a two run Summer prep to start his career, winning on debut in good style at Gawler before going to Morphettville when wide no cover for the trip and just feeling the pinch late. Market will tell you if he’s ready to go.
6 Justakidd (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Shayne Cahill trained three year old that comes here off a freshen up, the latest run coming on Adelaide Cup Day when far from disgraced in defeat behind Mac N Cheese, a subsequent Stakes winner, so the form reads very well and I think a fast run 1000m suits.
Race 2. (12:42) G.H. Mumm Autumn Final (Bm82) 1400m
9 Rialtor (Bet Now: $10.00) is a quality animal for Stuart Padman that comes back to town in winning form after leading throughout at Penola. Led throughout under Angus Chung and gave nothing else a look in on the very testing ground. Has measured up in town before so he commands respect, especially with just 51kg.
3 My Boy Birmingham (Bet Now: $4.60) deserves another chance. Market wanted him when he resumed two weeks ago here but unfortunately he got caught wide no cover for the trip and that hard run just told late when a close up fourth. If that hasn’t busted him, he can take this out.
6 Tubby Two Tracks (Bet Now: $18.00) is flying for Chris Bieg. Just not suited two back at Oakbank before racing here on the Parks track where she hunted up to land box seat and I think you can make a case to say that with clear air she wins instead of a luckless third to Call Me Shamus. Must for exotics.
Race 3. (13:17) SA Sires' Produce Stakes 1400m
1 Twin Stars (Bet Now: $2.70) will be hard to beat if he can sit closer in the run. He just lost sight of the bunny when resuming in the Breeders Stakes two weeks ago but loved the way he closed off behind a smart filly, See You In Heaven. He has good upside to come and should eat up 1400m.
2 Kings Consort (Bet Now: $3.80) will need luck from the wide gate but is in the right camp for a feature two year old race. He is three weeks between runs since coming with a well timed run to take out the Showdown at Caulfield, in what was a pretty weak race, but the stable rarely get it wrong when they travel to Adelaide.
7 Street Delight (Bet Now: $5.00) can be dangerous here. Ran in the Breeders two weeks back and she had absolutely no luck in the straight. She wouldn’t have won but clearly should have finished closer when fourth. The 1400m should be ideal for her and with clear air, she’ll be in the finish.
Race 4. (13:52) David Thomas Memorial (Bm82) 1200m
I want to give 13 Munster (Bet Now: $6.50) another chance. He ran at Oakbank on Easter Saturday over 1400m and I was quite keen on him, but I think the track and the seven furlongs just worked against him when down the track. Given a mini freshen up and loved his trial win last week. He’s here to rock and roll.
12 Point Blaze (Bet Now: $5.50) should be suited back to 1200m. Ran over 1400m two weeks ago in the City Of Adelaide and she tried her hardest, but seven furlongs at Stakes level just found her out but far from disgraced behind Morvada. Back to 1200m and back to benchmark grade, she’ll take beating.
8 Arkham Knight (Bet Now: $9.00) isn’t far off a win for John Macmillan. He was big odds when racing over 1400m at Oakbank four weeks back but he defied his price, charging to the line late when a narrow second to Zoist. Long time between wins but he isn’t far off. Knockout hope.
Race 5. (14:27) Grand Syndicates (Bm82) 1100m
1 Calypso Reign (Bet Now: $6.50) is a quality animal for David Jolly that is one of the leading contenders based off his win several weeks ago. He was trucking in the run behind the speed. Just a matter of getting clear air and once he got it, the change up speed was there for all to see and he was impressive. He’s one of the hardest to beat.
3 Meteorite (Bet Now: $4.20) can bounce back into the winners list. First run for Will Clarken came two weeks ago here and I think Jamie Kah rode him just a touch on the cute side, which left the horse luckless at a vital stage and clearly should have gone close to winning behind Gaze Grise. He’ll take beating with any hint of improvement re condition/fitness.
12 Sacred Armour (Bet Now: $12.00) hasn’t done much wrong since arriving from NZ. Spanked an average lot fresh at Penola before racing here where he did work from a wide gate and didn’t do a bad job sticking on like he did in defeat behind Silver On Red. He’ll be on speed and giving a sight.
Race 6. (15:02) Atc Prov. Series Final (Bm75) 1800m
11 Fox D’Or (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing in a real purple patch at the moment for Ryan Balfour. Dominant winner at Balaklava two back before backing up three days later at Morphettville over 1500m and he was dominant again, helped by a peach from Will Price. If he holds that form, he’ll take beating once again.
6 Rising Renown (Bet Now: $17.00) is suited up in trip for Travis Doudle. He ran last Wednesday over the mile at Murray Bridge, coming back in trip from Oakbank, and he tried his guts out. Just lacked the change up speed to win behind Rapid Raiser. Back up in trip and hard fit, he gets respect from me.
8 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $21.00) is an absolute marvel for the Hickmott/Riggs camp, having start 195 here. Ran on Sunday at Naracoorte and tried his guts out from off the speed, just missing out on picking up an in form Eagles Forever. He still maintains a healthy zest for racing and can run top four without surprising.
Race 7. (15:42) Adelaide Guineas 1600m
1 Illation (Bet Now: $1.30) could well be I’m Thunderstruck 2.0. Lot of arrogance about his debut win at Pakenham and it was pretty much the same next start in the Nitschke, jumping straight to Stakes grade and again winning with arrogance. Very exciting prospect and hard to see him getting beat here.
2 Umgawa (Bet Now: $7.50) looks suited here. Freshened up prior to racing over 1400m at Flemington on Anzac Day and was good late behind Tonneofgrit. I think back up to the mile suits and he does look a clear, clear second pick behind Illation, so a good chance to get a Stakes placing.
5 Residue (Bet Now: $34.00) can pinch a first four spot. He did a really good job in defeat in the Chairmans. Did plenty of work from the wide gate and was entitled to knock right up but he kept chipping away and was good in defeat behind Jungle Magnate. Doubt he has the speed in the legs to beat these, but one for exotics.
Race 8. (16:22) SA Derby 2500m
6 Detonator Jack (Bet Now: $3.90) will do me here in the Derby. He looks to have all the upside in the world for the Maher/Eustace camp, who love to target a Derby. Lot of arrogance about the way he has been winning, winning with seemingly plenty of scope/improvement to come and he’ll eat up 2500m. It’s going to take something very good to knock him off.
1 Alegron (Bet Now: $3.10) is hard to beat with the class edge. Massive effort in defeat in the Australian Derby before going to the St Leger. I’m not going to dutch rudder over the ride like others have been. IMO it was lucky that he was up against camels that the gaps came and the class came to the fore. Dominant win, but it was 90% the horse and 10% the ride. Hard to beat all the same here, especially from the gate at set weights.
5 Harleymoven (Bet Now: $9.50) is a three year old I have plenty of time for and IMO is clear #1 seed for the locals. He was set a task from the wide gate in the Chairmans two weeks ago here but loved the way he kept finding the line in defeat when second to Jungle Magnate, who had the more economical run in transit and finished best. If he can get a cold sit, and settle closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 9. (17:00) James Squire (Bm64) 1050m
1 Damascus Moment (Bet Now: $3.00) will do me here. Peter Hardacre trained mare that loves to roll on speed, which is what she did at Stawell last time out with sustained speed to the fore under John Allen. This looks a pretty thin race overall so with her racing style and class, she’s the one.
6 Lohn Ranger (Bet Now: $6.00) is one for exotics. John Macmillan trained gelding that resumed at Gawler when near the speed and showing good fight. Just couldn’t quite get there in the end but close up in defeat when third to Saskatoon. Good second up record and likes racing here.
15 Lady Pavli Chenko (Bet Now: $14.00) is a daughter of Shooting To Win for Shane Oxlade that resumes. Hasn’t raced since Feb 5 on the Parks track when producing an end of prep run, finishing last behind Yulong Justify. She’s a mare who races best early on in the prep and her trial leading in looked sharp.
