14/4/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sunshine Coast, Princess Stakes day

Queensland metro racing this Saturday heads to the Sunshine Coast where it is Princess Stakes Day, one of several lead ups towards the Queensland Oaks. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

3 Irish Optimism (Bet Now: $4.00) hasn’t won for a little while since early on in the prep but I think he gets a great chance to get a win on the board here. He ran over 2200m at Doomben a fortnight back in a race totally dominated by the leader/winner Xebec, who walked them in front and turned it into a 400m dash. Big track, hopefully a more genuine tempo, he looks the way to go.

6 Stanley (Bet Now: $3.20) should appreciate the drop in grade and depth after contesting the Toowoomba Cup last Saturday. Thought Larry gave the horse every chance in the run but the horse just isn’t up to that level. He does have a really good record at the track and he should be close to hard fit now, so no excuses.

2 Great Glen (Bet Now: $5.25) is on the seven day back up for Chris Waller since racing over 2000m last Saturday at Toowoomba where I thought he was a touch disappointing in the straight given he was well fancied to win the race and looked to have a pretty good run in transit. Perhaps back up in trip on the quick turnaround will suit.Not s much a long shot but I think it’s a race in three.

1 Blue Book (Bet Now: $4.50) looks the way to go. Kelly Doughty has a smart youngster in the stable in the shape of this gelding, who won three for three during the early part of the Summer before being tipped out with the Winter Carnival in mind. Trialled up brilliantly I thought last week at Doomben and he looks ready to go.

Hard to get ignore 2 Hopes Eternal (Bet Now: $4.50) for the John Zielke team. I thought he did an outstanding job in the 2YO Jewel at the Gold Coast a few weeks back, charging home from near last to run third to Boomsara. Has a really good overall record, Stakes placed in fact, and a hard 1200m looks ideal.

5 Coastal Boy (Bet Now: $5.50) is the race fit horse on his home track. Debuted over 1000m here a couple of Sundays back on a bog where he led all the way and bolted up under Luke Tarrant. He handled the wet track beautifully and showed a lovely turn of foot when asked for the big effort. Interesting to see how he goes ion top if the ground but he’s likeable. Similar to the first, looks a race in three.

6 Zoom By (Bet Now: $5.25) looks a potential blacktype filly. Well backed on debut at Gatton and she absolutely bolted up under Justin Stanley, winning by nearly five lengths and running good time relative to the meeting. Trial prior and trial since were very good also. Looks above average and should take some beating here.

3 Clockwise (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Smart Missile filly resuming for the Mark Webb team. Debuted with a win here on Boxing Day before going to Doomben where she placed behind Snicki Minaj. Resumes with no trials, but first up at 1200m tells me she’s forward enough to run well given she debuted over 1000m with no trials.

12 Kierabella (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Matty Dunn trained filly who is getting better with race experience and I think getting onto the big track will suit her big time. Resumed over 1200m at Doomben a fortnight back where she got back on the leaders track and really had no hope behind Mishani Hustler. 1200m on the bigger track will be better for her and I’m expecting improvement.

Gee I think 5 Cogliere (Bet Now: $7.50) is well placed to get the win. He’s had a couple of runs back now as a gelding. Resumed in the Port Macquarie Qualifier of the Country Championships and was good late behind Victorem before going to the Gold Coast where he worked home strongly with real purpose to run third to Plucky Girl. That form reads so well for this, and he’ll eat up the mile on the big track.

1 My Diamantine (Bet Now: $6.00) is the class runner of the field and that will carry her a long way. She ran over the Doomben mile three weeks back where the bias beat her. Loomed to win, looked the winner 200m but just couldn’t peg back the bias and whacked away for third. Good record on this track, getting fitter and she’ll be very strong at the end of a hard mile.

9 Shockfactor (Bet Now: $10.00) is the really interesting runner. Scratched from an easier race midweek to instead tackle this harder option. This bloke is three weeks between runs since racing over the Doomben mile where he was unlucky in the straight when having plenty to offer and for mine should have finished much closer behind Sharpamal. Back on his home track now and looks a leading chance.

6 Malmoosa (Bet Now: $12.00) represents some value to my eye. Daniel Bowen has this mare racing in career best form at the moment. Unlucky not to finish closer in the Grafton Qualifier for the Country Championships before going to Ipswich where a lovely ride from Larry Cassidy largely helped her get the win. Think the 1400m on the big track will be ideal and she’ll be strong late.

9 Mr Belaggio (Bet Now: $7.00) was a month between runs when racing over the 1350m at Doomben where he landed some good bets in getting the job done narrowly but impressively after sitting near the speed and fighting hard late when challenged. He has a really good record at the Sunny Coast and 1400m no issue.

3 Helarocity (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Lindsay Hatch trained gelding who has an excellent winning strike rate but keep in mind that last win came in September so it’s been a little while since he has greeted the judge. He ran over 1200m at Doomben a fortnight back and worked home okay late against the bias behind My Little Flicka. Is a winner here…just needs to tick the 1400m box.

Banking on 2 Dreams Aplenty (Bet Now: $4.10) running this lot into submission and holding on. It’ll be heart in your mouth stuff because I’m sure he’ll be leading and for the most part he will look the winner. Just depends if he can hold on fresh. Hasn’t raced since finishing down the track in the Sunshine Coast Cup behind Most Important. Trialled up great on Tuesday at the Gold Coast and looks ready to go.

7 Miss Dubois (Bet Now: $7.00) is a talented staying mare that resumes for the Matty Dunn team. This girl will come to the fore during the Winter months when we get wet tracks and she;s up in trip, because that is he forte. Whatever she does here, she will improve on, but the trial at the Gold Coast was very encouraging I thought.

6 Punta Norte (Bet Now: $10.00) is the horse who should get the dream sit off the hot tempo. He ran over the 1350m at Doomben a fortnight back and was coming back in trip which wasn’t the go I think in hindsight behind Aqua Vite. Got a really good record both here and at this track/distance, so he can bounce back hard.

Giving 2 Improvise (Bet Now: $10.00) another chance back to her own age/sex. Well backed when racing over the 2040m at Doomben a fortnight back and I think she should be forgiven for the failure because she was back in the run on a day where leading/on rail was the A1 Spot to be. Just had too much to do behind Hinchinstyle. Big track, back to the mile, looks ideal.

4 La Scopa (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Matty Dunn trained filly who is two for two to start the prep. Resumed with a slick maiden win at Grafton before going to Ipswich where she got back but produced a lovely finale to overhaul them late. She’s racing as if the mile will suit, she has upside and the big key is that she has a turn of foot.

16 Protest (Bet Now: $27.00) is probably the pick of the local fillies at this stage when it comes to the Queensland Oaks so I’ll be keen to see what she does here. Had no hope when resuming over 1200m at Doomben two weeks ago given the bias but considering that, her run was very good behind Pah Terie. Lone win came here and she will be strong late.

13 Femme Fireball (Bet Now: $4.60) is a daughter of Pierro for the Rob Heathcoate team who will get back and launch late. That’s what she did last time out in the Vo Rogue during the Summer Carnival but the bias didn’t help her cause behind Pierata. Resumes with no trials, but she has the brilliance to beat these.

Third up from a break, 10 Coral Bay (Bet Now: $41.00) should just about be ready to fire. Good resumption in the 3YO Jewel at the Gold Coast behind Sista Act before racing at Doomben a fortnight ago and the bias was against him behind Pah Terie. Unbeaten in two runs at this track/distance, this is his D-Day.

15 Goodonya Sonja (Bet Now: $67.00) is the unknown. Lindsay Gough trains this Captain Sonador filly, who finished off with real purpose to win here on debut over the 1000m a tick under three weeks ago. Trialled up well on Tuesday at Eagle Farm and the trial leading up to the debut was very good so she’s above average. Interesting to see how she goes.

4 Guard Of Honour (Bet Now: $2.15) looks to have turned the corner for Kris Lees. He didn’t appear to beat much in the Camarena at Canberra, but he ran sub 56 and ran just over 32 for his final 600m, which is low flying. Perhaps the trip away is the making of him. Very keen to see what he does here and how he handles the big track.

2 Privlaka (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented galloper that resumes for the Rob Heathcoate team. He is a noted first up performer who also has a fab record at the Sunny Coast. Had a really good Summer prep for the stable, which ended with a midfield effort at Doomben behind Care To Think. Resumes with no trials but I’m sure he’ll be around the mark somewhere.

1 Quatronic (Bet Now: $27.00) is a noted speedster that resumes for the Matty Dunn team. Last 100m will be the test but he’ll make sure it’s a proper 1000m contest. Can be hot and cold at times, but when he is on, he’s very good and is a blow level blacktype horse on his best form. Market/yard will be the guide.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 3 Irish Optimism

VALUE: Race Five Number 6 Malmoosa
