The girls had their turn last week. This weeks it’s the boys to slog it out in the SA Derby (2500m) at Morphettville and that highlights a strong eight event meeting. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1800m-1200m; Out two metres from the 1200m-600m; True for the remainder. Keep in mind that the first two races will be run on the Parks track.

Race One (13:05) : #SeeSouthAustralia Autumn Series Final 1400m:
Back Me: Landed with 1 Act Of Valour. (Bet Now: $2.80) Henry Dwyer trained galloper that ran over 1300m here a fortnight back when given a beaut steer by Chris Parnham from the wide. Had the horse in an ideal spot just off the speed, got the split and he dashed right away for a dominant win. Gets in nicely barrier wise after the scratchings and Lane takes over.
Big Danger: 5 Miss Joolia (Bet Now: $9.00) is a hot and cold mare for the Dodson camp that has a brilliant finishing burst on her when she is at her best. She displayed that two weeks back where she charged home from near last to run second to New Summer Night and you could say she should have won. Needs the breaks to go her way, but if they do, she’s right in the game.
Long Shot: 11 Sacred Seal (Bet Now: $12.00) is a mare in really good form at the moment for the Stuart Gower yard. She ran over 1400m at Balaklava last Wednesday where she got back in the run and closed off with purpose behind Roselli Sting. Actually meets that horse 3.5kg worse off here, but she draws much better here.
Race Two (13:40) : UBET SA Sires Produce Stakes 1400m:
Back Me: 1 Danger Deal (Bet Now: $8.00) is still a maiden but he looks the clear horse to beat here. Sent to Caulfield last time out for the VOBIS Sires where he looked most unlucky not to win given he got back in the run and was held up a touch early on in the straight. 1400m looks perfect and he has run two ripping races on the Parks track, which is an advantage.
Big Danger: 5 Snitzepeg (Bet Now: $4.00) is the clear threat. Darren Weir trained youngster that has been nommed a couple of times previously to head to SA but has been kept on ice. Comes here now off the back of a five length spank job of his rivals at Ballarat when a heavily backed odds on pop. Looks to have timing about him and up to 1400m is no issue.
Long Shot: 11Time Awaits (Bet Now: $8.00) is a very good filly for Tony McEvoy who comes through the Breeders Stakes where she got off the pace and tried hard, but was good to the line late when second to Broadband. 1400m is a query, but she’s hard fit, in form and does have class/quality on her side.
Race Three (14:20) : MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (70) 1050m:
Back Me: 4 Mulder (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very underrated three year old for theMichael Hickmott yard. He has won three from three for the camp, the latest coming during the Oakbank Carnival where he really toughed it out very strongly and surged hard to get the win, showing some really good tenacity. No reason to jump off at this stage.
Big Danger: 9 If Not Now When (Bet Now: $8.00) is a talented fill for Henry Dwyer who comes to Adelaide after running over 1100m at Caulfield last time out where she got back off the speed and chased hard but was no match for her talented stablemate Snitty Kitty. Back to 1050m at this level looks perfect and gets the claim for Jordan Childs.
Long Shot: 11 Vikings Reward (Bet Now: $26.00) is a talented three year old for the John Hyam yard who resumed in the Redelva three weeks back and just lacked the class, plus the tempo was against him behind the star filly Desert Lashes. This looks more his go, and they look as if they will go hard here, so he will get his chance.
Race Four (15:00) : Robert & Fay Gerard SA Sprint Series Final 1100m:
Back Me: 4 Strategic Demand (Bet Now: $3.60) resumed over 1000m on the Parks track two weeks ago and was one of the eye catchers of the entire meeting, settling near the back and savaging the line between runners to run third to Fine Mist. Would prefer him at 1200m, but off that fresh run, the 1100m second up looks ideal.
Big Danger: 7 Rock Status (Bet Now: $13.00) is on the quick back up after racing in the McKay last Saturday where he looked outclassed on paper and ran accordingly behind Karacatis. This looks more his level, he draws gate one and gets Craig Williams steering. On his earlier runs this prep, he’s right in this.
Long Shot: 23 Galaxy Gazer (Bet Now: $26.00) had market support at odds when resuming over this track/distance three weeks and the support was somewhat justified as he worked home with purpose to run a close up fourth to Rock Status, who ran a beauty last week in Stakes company, so the form reads well and he can run well second up.
Race Five (15:40) : Southaustralia.com Handicap (90) 1200m:
Back Me: 15 This Kid Rocks (Bet Now: $11.00) is an absolute beauty that doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He ran over 1300m on the Parks track a fortnight back where he dashed to the front and looked home but was nabbed late by Act Of Valour. Back to 1200m looks ideal, hard fit and Holder sticks. Great bet.
Big Danger: 8 Broadway And First (Bet Now: $5.50) was given a 12/10 by Johnny Allen to win at this track/distance three weeks ago. She was back in the ruck and near the rail, but she dashed through near the fence and got the win. Loses nothing with Lane taking over and she is a 1200m specialist. Definite threat.
Long Shot: 18 Sandrelli (Bet Now: $51.00) trialled brilliantly prior to racing on a bog at Sandown and just forget she went around. Stable had her accepted for Morphettville but elected to run there and with hindsight, it was the wrong call. She is much better than that and she will go around at good odds here.
Race Six (16:20) : Adelaide Galvanising Adelaide Guineas 1600m:
Back Me: 11 Petition (Bet Now: $1.85) looks a multi anchor for the weekend. High class three year old for Team Freedman who has won two from two this time in. Resumed with a spank job of her rivals first up at Geelong before going to Flemington on Anzac Day where she put away a smart field and did it with a fair bit of ease. Tells me she will love the step up to 1600m, and she only has improvement to come. Should be winning.
Big Danger: 9 Spju Warrior (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Mark Kavanagh trained galloper that is in ripping form. He comes back in trip after racing over 1800m at Caulfield where he sat near the pace and tried hard but didn’t quite run the trip out when third to He Ekscels. I think back to the mile looks ideal, Bowditch back on and he maps beautifully here.
Long Shot: 22 Rupture (Bet Now: $51.00) debuted in a 3YO benchmark race at Strathalbyn and got the job done before racing at Balaklava last Wednesday where he got back in a slowly run race and looked to do plenty wrong but stuck on well. Bigger track and up to the mile looks perfect and he has room for improvement.
Race Seven (16:55) : UBET South Australian Derby 2500m:
Back Me: 13 Netherfield (Bet Now: $5.50) for me here in a pretty even edition of the Derby. Mick Price trained galloper who clearly should have won the Chairmans here a fortnight back but got badly held up down the straight when appearing to be bolting. Is a query at 2500m, but in terms of ability/class, he has most of these covered. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 5 Odeon (Bet Now: $3.30) dodged the Chairmans and instead ran over 2000m at Caulfield against the older horses where he was given a 12/10 steer by Katelyn Mallyon and the horse reacted, showing a nice turn of foot to get the job done and was very good to the line and through it. Beating Hursley is nothing to jump up and down about, but he has beaten the older horses at metro level, which is a big tick.
Long Shot: 11 He Ekscels (Bet Now: $21.00) is the best roughie in the Derby. Has enormous room for improvement for the Richard Laming camp but I think he can measure up here at odds. Ran over 1800m at Caulfield last time out where he had a charmed run behind the speed and once Dunn gave him clear air, he dashed right away and powered to the line. 2500m looks perfect and I think he has the upside here.
Race Eight (17:30) : Quayclean Provincial Super Series Final 1800m:
Back Me: 2 Lieder (Bet Now: $3.40) clearly on top for me here. Former Godolphin galloper that had a really good stint in Queensland for Steve O’Dea before going to the Hickmott camp. Caught the eye behind Fastnet Latina over the mile here before going to Murray Bridge where he spanked his rivals by six. Only suited up to 1800m and really, only bad luck beats him.
Big Danger: 6 Saturday Affair (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented mare for the Will Clarken yard who is knocking down the door to win another race. Ran over the mile at Balaklava last Wednesday where she loomed to win the race but had to settle for close up second to Holy Juan. Up to 1800m on the course proper looks perfect and is a definite threat.
Long Shot: 15 Presumption (Bet Now: $41.00) is a tough stayer who is a knockout chance here at odds. He ran over 2200m at Balaklava last Wednesday where he was given a 12/10 by Paul Gatt and the ride deserved the race but just couldn’t quite finish it off. I think back in trip is ideal, and if they go hard in front, this is the horse to be on.
