Grafton Race Two: Number Six Meerlust
First starter from the Sue Grills yard. By prominent sire Johannesburg out of an unraced who has three foals to race, all of them being winners. Looked solid in a recent barrier trial at Tamworth when beaten two-and-a-half lengths. Young gun Tim Bell rides here and from barrier six the 16 year old should have this three-year-old in a good spot. Very weak maiden here, don’t be surprised if this girl gets up.
Grafton Race Five: Number One Bondit
Haven’t minded his two runs this preparation. Ran a solid sixth first up then went to Taree and couldn’t get in to the race due to a hectic tempo up front and finished eighth, beaten just over three lengths. He is third up this afternoon, he rises to the mile and he’ll appreciate some give in the ground. Priscilla Schmidt is riding in good form at present and is worth an e/w ticket.
Grafton Race Seven: Number Seven Mr Nappy
Very frustrating horse to follow. At his best he’d spank these but this preparation he has been ok without winning. Wasn’t far behind The Annihilator at the Gold Coast last start when carrying 58kg in a Class five. Steps up to open company today but I wouldn’t rate it as a handy open handicap race. Veteran rider Scott Seamer is in the saddle and his wealth of knowledge and experience will count for plenty when it gets to the business end of the race.
