SA racing this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge where nine races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position from the 800m-Winning Post; Out five metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:55) Irongate Hcp 1200m
1 The Krone (Bet Now: $6.50) for me. He was originally hard in the market on debut two weeks ago on the Parks track at Morphettville but the money came in a big way for So You Can and the market got it right as that horse bolted away for a dominant win. The Krone led, tried hard, but was very raw and new to the caper. Hopefully he’ll come on from that.
2 Winning Weather (Bet Now: $2.25) should appreciate the rise to 1200m for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable. Ran over 1000m on the Parks track last Saturday when sitting off a good speed before angling clear and finishing off strongly, just missing out on picking up All Banter. Racing as if 1200m suits and stable is flying with their babies.
7 Super Striker (Bet Now: $21.00) is a sneaky chance. Macdonald/Gluyas trained juvenile and we know the stable is absolutely flying at the moment with their babies. Comes through the So You Can race from two weeks ago on the Parks track and was far from disgraced in defeat in running third. Getting better with experience and finds a winnable race.
Race 2. (12:31) Magic Millions (68) 2000m
10 Grabbing Glory (Bet Now: $6.00) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates, but with only 52kg on her back, she really appeals. Comes through the A Knight In Paris race at Strathalbyn where she lumped 59kg and loomed large to win but couldn’t quite finish it off, finishing third. Even race this and with the light weight, I’ll lean her way.
A rise in trip looks ideal for the McEvoy mare 9 Rebel Romance (Bet Now: $8.50). Stuck on well first up over the mile at Balaklava before coming back in trip to 1500m at Gawler where she got back off the speed and found the line well to run third. Lone win did come at 2000m and stable is starting to find some form in SA. Hard to beat.
6 A Knight In Paris (Bet Now: $4.60) is going well for Will Clarken. Big win I thought over 2000m at Strathalbyn last start given he was wide no cover for the trip and was there to be run down, but he showed good ticker in the latter part of the race and fended them off. Harder here, and been up a while, but now has a win and could well go on with it.
Race 3. (13:06) Fibretrack (78) 2500m
6 Prince Alby (Bet Now: $6.00) should be close to favourite IMO. Charlotte Littlefield trains this gelding, and I think his two runs back from a break have been super, the latest coming over 2200m at Sale when chasing hard throughout in a game effort behind the in form Pharrell. Well in after the claim, draws soft and has more upside, plus 2500m is perfect.
5 Exalted Ambition (Bet Now: $2.20) is a key threat for me. I was really keen on him two weeks ago on the Parks track, where I thought Caitlin Jones gave him an absolute peach just off the speed and IMO he had every possible chance to get past Bertwhistle, who is a handy staying mare. That form reads well for this so I’ll give him another chance.
3 Turf Man (Bet Now: $6.00) looks extremely well suited up to 2500m here for John Hickmott. Has raced over 2000m at his past couple and has run okay without threatening, the latest behind Bertwhistle on the Parks track. He does seem a horse more effective over a longer staying trip, which is what he gets here, and should prove hard to beat on the home track.
Race 4. (13:46) Gold Cup Friday 16/10 Hcp (62) 1000m
2 Appalachian (Bet Now: $3.00) has got the engine under the hood to blow these away. The problem is he has such an awful racing pattern of getting back in the run and spotting them too much head start. Latest run came two weeks back on the Parks track when a close up fourth to Almadriva. His form reads superior to these. Just needs to show earlier interest.
5 Almadriva (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Phillip Stokes trained filly that was most disappointing two back behind Rushwa before being given a freshen up before going to the Parks track a fortnight back when given a peach by Crowther and the filly really attacked the line late to win. If you can ignore the flop behind Rushwa, she looks terribly hard to beat.
8 Carlaluisa (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Rebel Raider mare for the Macdonald/Gluyas team that resumes. This girl can be a real enigma and near impossible to follow with confidence, but she’s shown enough to suggest that she can win a race like this if she puts it all together. Has had one jumpout to prepare for her resumption and she can sprint well fresh, so watch the market.
Race 5. (14:26) Bridges Event Centre (66) 1000m
2 Dimaggio (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Team McEvoy trained three year old that got the kill out of the way first up on the Ballarat Synthetic before racing on the Parks track two weeks ago where he was very tardy to begin with and in the end, that cost him the win when a narrow second to Silver Lining, who was given a 12/10 steer. Clean jump, he’s the one to beat.
7 Magno (Bet Now: $5.50) isn’t far off a win for the in form Sam Burford stable. Comes through the Silver Lining race from two weeks ago on the Parks track and loomed large to win, but couldn’t quite finish it off, finishing third. Stable on their home track should always be respected and I think a win isn’t far away for him.
Big watch here on 6 Air Marshal (Bet Now: $7.50), who resumes for Will Clarken. This three year old hasn’t raced since January 25 at Gawler when down the track behind the well performed filly Just Zerene, with the horse pulling up with tying up in the hindquarters. Three jumpouts to prepare for his return and has got better with each jumpout.
Race 6. (15:06) Tab (66) 1600m
3 Eluding (Bet Now: $3.10) on top. I think he has the right form to take this out, having run third to Lombado last Saturday on the Parks track and he is a horse who I have plenty of time for. Eluding was a little break between runs and was back in trip so like him on the seven day turnaround and up to 1600m from gate one. Hard to beat.
1 Jacobite Prince (Bet Now: $6.00) has been very good this prep and should take some beating. Just don’t think the tactics were A1 last time out at Murray Bridge. He ended up getting a fair way back and it was a slow tempo, so if you were on him, you would have felt a bit hard done by given on speed is his usual pattern. He ran on well late but was never a winning hope. Can land on speed here and prove hard to run down.
8 Love From Lucy (Bet Now: $7.50) is a John Hickmott trained filly who has been super at her past few. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago when given a peach steer by Fawke and loomed large to win but couldn’t finish it off, albeit the winner Coolth looks well above average. That form has to read well for this and she’s a threat in a tricky race.
Race 7. (15:46) Carlton Draught (rs2ly) 1200m
9 Extreme Thrill (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Francis/Kent trained sprinter that had jumped out quite well prior to resuming at Morphettville a few weeks ago where he got a suck run nearer the inside, which was the right spot to be for the meeting, but had to angle wide for clear air and those lanes out where he was, I think was inferior ground and give the margin was only 0.6L, he should have gone close to winning. Good second up record and takes some beating.
1 Crown Fontein (Bet Now: $13.00) is a John Hickmott trained sprinter that resumes. This gelding hasn’t raced since Cup Day at Flemington down the straight when outclassed behind Tactical Advantage. Been given a really good break since. No public jumpouts, so a bit of guessing going on, but his first up form reads far superior to anything engaged.
8 Aiguilette (Bet Now: $14.00) has had two runs now at 1400m and looks to be hard fit this time around. Ran over 1400m at Murray Bridge three weeks ago behind Done By Me and worked home pretty well in a race not really run to suit. He’s got class when right and is starting to find some positive form so giving him a chance in a very open race.
Race 8. (16:30) Weddings At Bridges Ctre (68) 1600m
Keen here on 6 Blow Torch (Bet Now: $2.60) for the McEvoy camp. Ran a strong second to Done By Me over 1400m here three weeks ago before backing up seven days later on the Parks track when a closing second to the Stakes performed mare Dreamed. He’s found good form now and stepping up to 1600m, he really appeals.
Potentially some good placement here from Team McEvoy with the mare 8 Despacito (Bet Now: $5.50). First up run at Morphettville behind Simply Dreaming was pretty good before going to Victoria where she has run well a couple of times without threatening. Hopefully the track won’t be as wet this time around and she’s got upside to come.
12 Exalted Dee (Bet Now: $13.00) can be an improver at odds. Forget she went around two weeks ago on the Parks track. Was back in the run after a tardy beginning and had to use up too many petrol tickets to tack on. By the time she did, those in front were off and gone again. If she puts everything together, she can take this out at big odds without surprising.
Race 9. (17:05) Ash & Paul's Wedding (68) 1200m
5 Schilldora (Bet Now: $4.80) finds a very winnable race here if she is anywhere near her best. Ran in a stronger race two weeks ago on the Parks track at Morphettville where she wasn’t really able to take advantage of gate one, but in saying that, she wasn’t beating impressive winner Brimarvi Vehero. She isn’t far off a win and this is the kind of race to find it.
3 Rock Harbour (Bet Now: $4.50) has been really good this time in for David Jolly and I think he can repeat the dose from three weeks ago at Murray Bridge. Got back in the run but really finished off with purpose to nab Just Kappy near the line in an impressive finale to win. He’s come back in super order and now he has a win on the board, he can go on with it.
10 Coronel (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Host that resumes for the Will Clarken team. Certainly got the ability to take this out but at times his endeavour can let him down. Has been given a really good break, having not raced since November, but his recent jumpouts have been at Mornington and have been quite good, interestingly under the care of Clayton Douglas. Watch the market.
