13/10/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Durbridge Stakes day

Eight races have been run and won at Morphettville this Saturday for Durbridge Stakes Day. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

2 Jawwaal (Bet Now: $3.00) should be putting this field away. On the quick back up after racing at Kyneton last Friday in what looked quite a deep maiden. He was four and five wide no cover throughout and really, to only be beaten in the last couple of strides by a nice type in Zoutori, his effort was huge. If he produces anything similar to that, he’ll be winning here.

10 Wrecking Crew (Bet Now: $4.40) is an O’Reilly gelding resuming for the Will Clarken team. This bloke had the one start, which came in November last year over 1050m here when running second to Manzala. Been given plenty of time in the paddock and comes here with just one trial under the belt, but it was behind Ice Ghost and we know what that horse did last Saturday.

4 Lippsy Shuffle (Bet Now: $34.00) could be an improver here at odds. He debuted over 1100m here three weeks ago and did just about everything wrong in the straight. Wanted to lay in, then hang out. He was a horrid ride for Alfred Chan behind Bayou but when he did put his mind to it, I thought he was pretty good. That experience should do him the world of good.

All over 1 Ace Attack (Bet Now: $9.50) here. First two runs were below par before racing over 1400m on the Parks track a fortnight where he ran a much improved race when third to the in form Holy Command. Steps up to 1800m now and two of his three career wins have come at this track/distance. Really keen on his chances.

9 Sweet Mischief (Bet Now: $2.10) is a Tony McEvoy trained filly who has always had a bit of a wrap on her since day one but for the most part hadn’t delivered on that but she finally got the maiden win out of the way last time at Gawler over 1700m, bolting in by seven lengths. Form has been franked via Cosmic Alert and now she’s won a race, she can go on with it.

3 Igitur (Bet Now: $8.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over the 2250m last Saturday on the Parks track and he was unlucky. Wasn’t going to win but should have run third had he got clear air earlier. Back to 1800m in the space of a week is a little query, but the depth here isn’t as strong and he’s a fit animal.

3 Ruomaza (Bet Now: $2.35) is a former kiwi who has had a couple of runs in Australia for Darren Weir and has been quite good each start. Resumed with a strong win at Bendigo before going to Mornington where he really had no hope given where he was but he worked home with purpose late behind Call It A Day. Third up at the mile looks ideal, bigger track helps…very likeable.

7 Box On Collins (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Tony McEvoy trained son of Lope De Vega resuming. He’s only won the one race from eleven outings but his ability is better than what that record says. Hasn’t raced since the SA Derby when beating outclassed behind Leicester. Couple of impressive trials leading up to the resumption and I like him fresh at the mile.

Shawn Mathrick does’t mind pulling off a plunge, especially at Morphettville, so 8 Crypto Peer Rocks (Bet Now: $14.00) is a big watch. He ran at Geelong last time where he was unwanted in betting but still ran a beauty, getting close to knocking off The Founder. Looks to map well despite a tricky gate and Paul Gatt steers.

1 Approach Discreet (Bet Now: $1.70) should be putting this field away. Darren Weir trains this three year old, who is heading down the Derby path but if he is to be a competitor there, he’s got to be putting this field away. He ran well in the Derby trial at Flemington last time, closing off nicely from the back behind stablemate Savoie. Massive drop in depth this time and small field suits.

7 Maui Girl (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Tony McEvoy trained filly who looks well above average. Debuted over 1400m at Murray Bridge where she was given a soft lead and Pannell took full advantage. Once he slipped her a bit of rein, it was all over. On that, she should have no trouble with the trip and is in the right stable.

If ever 2 Seberate (Bet Now: $7.00) is going to bounce back to positive form, it’ll be here. He has been a major disappointment this time in, threatening to run well in town before continually failing. In saying that, his last start over the mile at Ballarat was solid, working home well without much luck behind Scenic Sight. 1800m no issue and has quality.

Back on the course proper should suit 14 Atomic Lokade (Bet Now: $11.00). Ran over 1000m on the Parks track two weeks ago and if you were on her aka me, it was a tough watch. Run off her legs before eventually picking up and was seemingly bolting but just had no luck in the straight. If the breaks go her way here, she can win.

7 Experimentation (Bet Now: $2.90) is a former Lloyd Kennewell trained gelding resuming for Will Clarken, and rinse/repeat, he’s one of the best at improving tried horses. This bloke showed good promise in the Autumn and trialled really well behind Nodoubtaboutit, who won impressively last Saturday. Easy to see why he’s been well backed early.

Interested in 16 One Invincible Cat (Bet Now: $20.00), a former Kris Lees runner making her SA debut for Ryan Balfour. The stable has picked up a couple of horses from NSW via Prime Thoroughbreds, including Kissing Game, who ran a beauty a fortnight ago. Based on that, the horses seem to be liking life in SA and this horse did show good talent when trained by Lees. Definite yard/market watch.

Gee this looks a perfect assignment for 2 Oberland (Bet Now: $5.00). Darren Weir trains this gelding, who has been quite good this time in, his latest run coming over 1100m at Caulfield when back and not getting involved behind Spending To Win. He’s the best horse in this race by far and just needs normal luck to go close.

13 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $9.50) is a handy mare for the Paul Seater camp who was very good first up when beaten narrowly by Fancy Rumble before running fifth to Freehearted at this track/distance. Interesting she takes on the boys instead of the mares race, but being third up, from the good draw, she should be ready.

5 Sizzling Bullet (Bet Now: $12.00) is a former Chris Waller galloper who had his first run for the Mick Minervini team a fortnight back over the 1250m on the Parks track where he ran a beauty when a close up fourth to Magic Boy, beaten a length, and a touch unlucky not to finish closer. Has an outstanding second up record and is a clear threat.

If she handles the trip over, 12 Petrelle (Bet Now: $2.35) should win. Yes she rises sharply in grade but gee there was so much to like about her resumption at Bendigo. Sat on speed most of the way and she absolutely bolted in, running slick time, her final 600m in sub 34 and she was under a hold. Very keen to see her at this level.

Class will carry 2 Casino Wizard (Bet Now: $3.50) a long way towards victory. He resumed in the Whylie where he lumped 60kg and did a power of work on speed. Thought he was enormous in defeat, beaten narrowly by Holy Blade. At the weights, he should beat that horse home. Just has to overcome the sticky gate.

3 Holy Blade (Bet Now: $9.50) is three weeks between runs for the Weir camp since scoring a narrow but impressive win in the Whylie over 1100m here. He was back and wide before Coffey presented him clear air in the straight and once he balanced, he attacked the line and won impressively. Just has to stretch it to 1200m now.

15 Kissing Game (Bet Now: $8.50) is a former John Thompson trained mare who had her first run for Ryan Balfour at this track/distance three weeks ago and I thought she was one of the runs of the day, closing off against the bias behind Freehearted. Has a very good second up record so hopefully comes on from that first run.

I’ll take a chance on 1 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $11.00) for Ryan Balfour. I think rising her in trip/class was the wrong move by Ryan Balfour and it saw the mare run some disappointing races, including last time in the Balaklava Cup. Significant drop in grade and for mine she’s well weighted given her overall record. If she’s right, she will go awfully close.

10 Picture Me Rolling (Bet Now: $19.00) is a daughter of Rebel Raider resuming for the in form Jake Stephens team. This girl has had a long break, having not raced since December 9 when winning her third straight win over the mile on the course proper. Resumes with no trials, but stable does place them well, so she’s a definite yard/market watch.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 12 Petrelle

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 2 Jawwaal

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 15 Kissing Game
