Nine races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (10) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.
** ABANDONED **
Race 1. (13:12) Bartons Bayside Handicap 1050m
10 Niedorp (Bet Now: $1.95) should be winning this. She looks a really good prospect for Tony Gollan who trialled here a few weeks back and she absolutely bolted in, winning by a space under little pressure and the time for the morning matched up well with the older horses, which is always a good sign. Surprised if she gets rolled.
5 Ready To Party (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Matty Dunn trained son of More Than Ready who won a trial on the same morning as Guntantes but the negative is that the time was significantly slower than the time of Guntantes. The positive is that the Heathcoate horse was ridden out while this bloke wasn’t asked for much effort. Interesting to see what she does here.
3 Cubix (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Rubick colt on debut for the Matty Dunn team. This bloke has trialled twice in readiness for his first start, the latest trial coming last Tuesday when winning over 900m at the Gold Coast in pretty good style. Has a good gate to use and on breeding, the wet track should be fine for him.
Race 2. (13:47) Harcourts Green Living Handicap 2200m
3 Exoteric (Bet Now: $3.40) is a hard fit/in form stayer for Chris Waller. He was well supported last Friday in the Port Macquarie Cup where Tommy got him into a really good spot just off the pace and from the home turn onwards, it was a rather painless watch. The 2200m is no issue and I like Waller horses on the quick turnaround.
6 Impavido (Bet Now: $3.90) is backing up for his third race in as many weeks. Brilliant steer by Lloyd got him home two back before racing at this track/distance last Saturday and just failing to finish it off when second to Monaco Snob. Hard fit with weight relief, he can bounce back here and is a clear threat.
4 My Giuliano (Bet Now: $7.50) is a hit and miss stayer for Chris Waller but when he’s right and on song, he can certainly beat these. Lovely ride saw him win two back over 2000m here before racing here a fortnight ago and running below par behind the in form Prioritise. The wet track and hopefully a good tempo will see him go close.
Race 3. (14:22) Wynnum Haulage Handicap 1600m
3 Trois Choix (Bet Now: $3.40) is a David Vandyke trained mare who is in ripping form at the moment. She’s won her past two and has been quite impressive each time, the latest over the Sunny Coast mile where she was back in a slowly run affair, and was off the bit before the turn, but she built the revs and proved too good. Harder here, but she’s a mare in form with upside.
I think up to the mile will suit 6 Old Habits (Bet Now: $2.80). On the seven day back up after racing over 1350m here last Saturday where he got back in the small field and never really looked likely but worked home okay late behind Niccanova. He’ll be suited at 1600m and the wet track will be no issue for him.
9 Stanley (Bet Now: $4.40) is an interesting runner. On the seven day back up after racing over this track/distance last Saturday where he was wide no cover for the trip and finished down the track behind Zofonic Dancer. Interesting he backs up after that hard run, seemingly pleasing the stable surely to warrant racing again. Has to be respected.
Race 4. (15:01) EDB Training Services Handicap (Class 6) 1200m
2 Tawfiq Boy (Bet Now: $2.70) for me. Put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce before racing over this track/distance a fortnight ago where the bias was against him but he still ran well behind Fiery Heights. Back onto a track with give in it, and back in depth, he should take beating and I’m happy to be in his corner.
5 Sister Patti (Bet Now: $4.40) is an interesting runner. Les Ross trains this mare and I like her back to 1200m. She ran over 1350m last time here and was okay but didn’t quite see the trip out behind Stella Victoria. She’s a swimmer, so the wet track here looks perfect, back in trip, hard fit and in form. Definite threat.
4 Powerline (Bet Now: $6.00) will love the drop in depth for Kris Lees who ran over 1200m here a fortnight ago and his effort was very good, making solid ground nearer the inside when a close up fourth to the in form Fiery Heights. He’s better on top of the ground but is capable on a wet track and does have class/quality at his best.
Race 5. (15:37) Shangri-La Gardens Handicap 1200m
7 Taillevent (Bet Now: $6.00) for me in a tough race. He can be an enigma at times but like stablemate, another enigma Hotel Coste, he’s starting to turn the corner. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he got back against the bias and really had no hope but he attacked the line and just missed out on picking up Fiery Heights. That looks good form for this.
1 Tversky (Bet Now: $1.80) is a Gary Duncan trained gelding who has been one of the form horses of Queensland racing in recent times. He has won four on the bounce, the latest coming four weeks back over this track/distance when beating Niccanova, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Unbeaten fresh and will be out of trouble on speed.
2 Hi I’m Back (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding who comes through the Volkhoff race from the Sunny Coast three weeks ago. He was run off his legs to the eye and couldn’t really get balanced but stuck on quite well in defeat. Can run well second up and a track with give in it is no concern for this son of Sequalo.
Race 6. (16:27) Bank Of Queensland Wynnum Handicap 1350m
Siding with 6 Miss Sara, (Bet Now: $6.00) who resumes for the Les Ross stable. This girl hasn’t raced since the Winter where she last raced in the JJ Atkins, where she had clear excuses behind The Autumn Sun, and we know that’s A1 form. Trialled well behind Star Silk, good fresh record and has class on her side.
3 Thunderous Strike (Bet Now: $8.50) comes back in trip for Matty Dunn after racing over the mile here over a month back where the intention was to ride with cover but he jumped too well and in the end probably didn’t see the trip out. Should handle the wet track based on breeding and does have a touch of quality.
15 Too Hot To Hold (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Steve O’Dea trained filly who comes through a Sunny Coast maiden on a bog last time and I thought she did quite a good job in defeat from the back when second to Dulcie Tie. Ran well start prior behind Belle Roc and that horse is above average. Up to 1350m is ideal also.
Race 7. (17:06) Bartons Capalaba & Cleveland Handicap (70) 1600m
I don’t think you can go wrong backing 12 Sweet Adaline (Bet Now: $4.80) each way, provided of course we get an each price. She’s been a very consistent mare for Team Guy for a while now and continued that last time over the mile when closing off to run third to the in form Galtero. Good record at the track/distance and should have room for improvement.
If 5 Cedarwood (Bet Now: $6.00) was fair dinkum, he’d win this by a space. That’s the sort of ability he’s got but he just doesn’t want to put it all together. Thought that would come in the Galtero race from two weeks ago where Browne seemed to give him every chance but he didn’t finish it off. He can win…but he won’t be getting my coin.
10 Benfica Princess (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Kelly Doughty trained mare who is racing well and I don’t think a win is too far away. Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at the Sunny Coast where she got back and worked home strongly to run third to Zofonic Dancer. Wet track should be okay, hard fit, in form…a chance.
Race 8. (17:42) Iona Old Boys Day Plate (Class 3) 1110m
I’ll take a punt on the former Godolphin bludger 10 Toga Picta (Bet Now: $5.50), who is now with Diane Murphy at Beaudesert. This gelding had some really good form at his best as a three year old, running well in town, but his form tapered away towards the end. Now based with Murphy, and his trial win was outstanding. Wet track no issue.
12 Adoradancer (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Barry Lockwood trained mare resuming. This girl hasn’t raced since running over 1100m at Ipswich where she was back on the rail in a small field and couldn’t quite build the revs like she can. Trialled well here a few weeks back and the wet track should be fine. Definite chance.
21 Limited (Bet Now: $27.00) is a Stephen Lee trained mare who should have no trouble with the wet track. Ran over 1000m at Ballina last time where she was on speed and fought on strongly to run second to Siroccan Lad. Gets a soft gate here and I reckon back up to the 1110m will suit this grey mare. Outside winning chance.
Race 9. (18:25) Architects Dovey & Associates Handicap (85) 1350m
If she ticks the wet track box, 11 Stella Victoria (Bet Now: $2.30) should prove too good. This mare has really turned the corner since joining the Rob Heathcoate team, the latest win coming at this track/distance a fortnight ago where she looked a good thing on paper and won accordingly. Takes on the boys and the wet track is the unknown, but on form, clearly the horse to beat.
2 Courtza King (Bet Now: $5.00) looks the key and perhaps only danger to the mare. Tony Gollan has this bloke racing in near career best form at the moment, his latest start resulting in a dominant win at this track/distance a fortnight back, though the timer was five lengths slower than Stella Victoria. Off that, can’t see him winning, but draws well and the claim helps.
15 Dapper One (Bet Now: $35.00) is a Les Ross trained mare who comes through the Stella Victoria race from two weeks ago and while she was well held by that mare, she was far from disgraced in running fourth. She was 1600-1350 in the space of seven days, so with that under the belt, she should be better off here.
