The long awaited return to Ladbrokes Park is finally here on Saturday for Zipping Classic Day. The track has had a really good break since the last meeting, so here’s hoping it holds up well. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:25) : Thoroughbred Club Merson Cooper Stakes 1000m:

Back Me: 4 Vinland (Bet Now: $5.50) for me here. This Tony McEvoy trained son of Sebring out of the handy mare Viking Turf Belle debuts off the back of a trial at Morphettville last Friday where he won the trial and looked to go about his business very nicely. Draws wide, but the nephew Kerrin McEvoy steers and he more often than not gets first pick.
Big Danger: 10 Arctic Angel (Bet Now: $9.50) is the one with race experience on her side. She debuted on Cup Day down the straight where she started decent odds and defied those odds to run an encouraging fourth to Invincible Star. It’s key to have race experience, especially in these early two year old races, so she should improve off that and rates highly.
Long Shot: 14 Zarpoya (Bet Now: $15.00) debuts for Robbie Griffiths. No public appearances…which is great, but the trainer usually does fire around this time of the year and he can always throw up an above average youngster that is a complete unknown pre race. Apprentice on, soft gate, well bred…don’t be surprised to see a market move at a price.

Race Two (13:00) : Yarramalong Race Club Stakes 1500m:

Back Me: 4 Redkirk Warrior (Bet Now: $2.40) went in the blackbook of just about every punter when making his Australian debut on Manikato night, sitting wide throughout and showing tremendous fight but was nabbed late by Sir Bacchus, who ran well during Cup week. 1500m is perfect, he gets weight relief, has upside, and his Hong Kong form is Group l class.
Big Danger: 5 Sovereign Nation (Bet Now: $3.80) ran over 1400m on Cup Day where he had the perfect sit just off the speed. The problem is that he gave the eventual winner Demonstrate the perfect drag into the race and that horse proved too good. He has had three 1400m runs this prep, so I think stepping up to 1500m will be ideal and he rates highly.
Long Shot: 7 Un De Sceaux (Bet Now: $34.00) is a handy galloper that could easily bob up here and win without surprising me. He ran over the mile at the Valley last time out where he got back in the ruck on a night where making ground was difficult yet he did late behind Black Sheep. Small field will assist his cause, on the limit and the booking of Newitt looks a good one. His aggressive style could spark this horse into action.

Race Three (13:35) : Ladbrokes Sandown Cup 3200m:

Back Me: 1 Qewy (Bet Now: $1.80), provided he has recovered from the gutbuster that was the Melbourne Cup (3200m), he should bolt in here. His effort there was just remarkable given he bombed the start and missed it by a couple of lengths, throwing away the chance to get a nice run near the tempo. He ended up running fourth and it was a super effort. Looks thrown in at the weights IMO, and the Melbourne Cup has been the dominant form reference for this race in recent years.
Big Danger: 3 De Little Engine (Bet Now: $4.20) raced like he was looking for the two miles when racing in the Queen Elizabeth (2600m) last Saturday where he sat off speed in the run and was really one paced to the line when fourth to tearaway winner Francis Of Assisi. Ran sixth to Almoonqith in this race last year and looks to be going better 12 months on. A threat.
Long Shot: 5 Murphy’s Delight (Bet Now: $9.00) is racing quite well this time in for Chris Waller. He ran in the 2800m race on Cup Day where he was last throughout and looked as if he was going to run last when he was off the bit 1000m out but just kept finding under Bowman and was strong to the line behind stablemate Kinema. He is a two mile winner from the Winter, and he has upside. Definite threat.

Race Four (14:10) : OTI Racing Doveton Stakes 1000m:

Back Me: 6 O’Malley (Bet Now: $3.50) looked to map well when racing in the 955m event on Cox Plate Day and that is how it panned out, with Froggy getting good cover on the sprinter before unleashing late and the horse put them away smartly. Races well at Sandown and the speed here should be hot again, which again will suit his racing pattern, plus I can only see upside.
Long Shot: 3 Husson Eagle (Bet Now: $8.00) is heading towards the Magic Millions Sprint again and kicks start his prep here. Didn’t really fire much of a shot in the Autumn off the back of a dominant win at the Gold Coast on Magic Millions Day. Trialled okay behind Jungle Edge mid October, and does have a very good fresh record.
Big Danger: 10 Rock ‘N’ Gold (Bet Now: $10.00) is a handy sprinter that has been racing pretty well this time in for the Ellerton/Zahra stable. Both starts this prep have come over 955m at the Valley, winning sharply fresh before not having much luck next start behind Another Diamond. Draws a touch awkwardly, but the 1000m start isn’t really too much of a concern when it comes to barriers. He is a leading contender.

Race Five (14:45) : City Of Greater Dandenong Twilight Glow Stakes 1400m:

Back Me: 5 Prompt Response (Bet Now: $3.20) has been bursting to win a race prep, and with the good draw now, I think this is her race. She ran over 1400m on Cup Day and the most part looked the winner but was bloused right on teh peg by Jennifer Lynn, who will go around as a chance in the Guineas. Oliver jumps on, draws to get the run of the race, hard fit…rates highly.
Big Danger: 7 Moonlites Choice (Bet Now: $9.50) had really good market support when racing on Kyneton Cup last Wednesday where she sat off speed and looked to get a little lost around the turns but Yendall straightened her out and she savaged the line with purpose to win. There is plenty of promise with her and she was nominated for a couple of Stakes races during the Spring, so the stable must think highly of her.
Long Shot: 18 I’ll Decide (Bet Now: $26.00) is a filly that should not be ignored. Her debut win on Cup Day at Morphettville, to the eye, was very impressive, sitting off the speed before presenting wider and finishing off with real purpose. Time was a touch slower than the other 1050m maiden the same program, but there is upside and keep in mind the stable scratched the other runner for this one.

Race Six (15:25) : Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas 1600m:

Back Me: 1 Morton’s Fork (Bet Now: $2.00) is the obvious here so I’ll lean his way. He comes through the traditional lead, the Carbine Club (1600m) on Derby Day where he ran a game second to the potential star Comin’ Through. Start prior was a barrier trial, so he should be hard fit now and the stable love to target the race, so he has to rate as one of the leading chances.
Big Danger: 7 Faraway Town (Bet Now: $7.50) closed off strongly when resuming in the Brian Crowley (1200m) behind Spright, who bolted up on Oaks Day. She then ran over 1400m on Cup Day and she just looked to get lost around Flemington. Was going to run last but picked up late to finish midfield and was okay through the line. 4th in the Champagne in the Autumn in a race that has produced the Caulfield Guineas and Derby winner. That reads well for this.
Long Shot: 9 Soviet Secret (Bet Now: $20.00) is an above average filly for the Sam Pritchard-Gordon stable who took forever to break the maiden status but did it nicely the other night at Pakenham. She was a well performed Stakes performer as a two year old, so the class rise is no issue, she draws a soft gate and should do no work. Knockout chance.

Race Seven (16:00) : Quayclean Zipping Classic 2400m:

Back Me: 1 Who Shot Thebarman (Bet Now: $3.60) was super in the Melbourne Cup (3200m), settling well back in the run and looming to be a place chance 300m out but he just died on the run and had to settle for fifth. He spanked them in this race last year and seemingly is in better form 12 months on. Can’t believe $6 was offered all in. Looks the way to go.
Long Shot: 2 Big Orange (Bet Now: $4.00) was okay without setting the world on fire in the Cup, settling off the brutal speed and whacking away okay. I think back to 2400m will suit and he does get speed favours this time around. If he can dominate from the front, like he did before he came down under, he can definitely bounce back into the winners list.
Big Danger: 7 Beautiful Romance (Bet Now: $6.50) might have been one of the rank outsiders in the Cup, but gee I thought she ran an absolute beauty, settling near last in the run and finishing off strongly late in the piece to run a very credible seventh. She has a really good 2400m record and though poorly suited at WFA, it’s hard to ignore what she did.

Race Eight (16:40) : Kevin Heffernan Stakes 1300m:

Back Me: 4 Illustrious Lad (Bet Now: $3.20) was kept relatively safe in the market when racing down the straight on Derby Day and credit where credit is due, he was just too good for them. That followed a luckless run at Caulfield behind Keen Array where he got badly hampered by the riderless Taddei Tondo. 1300m is no issue I think, especially when he is in this kind of form and he’ll hopefully get a soft run nearer the speed.
Big Danger: 11 Super Cash (Bet Now: $8.50) ran against the mares down the straight on Derby Day and gee was gallant in defeat behind the winning machine that is Sheidel. She raced near the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be yet she was still there in the final few strides. She spanked everything on the inside, which indicates how good the run was That was her first run in five weeks, so she has enormous upside.
Long Shot: 10 Santa Ana Lane (Bet Now: $14.00) ran on Manikato night at the Valley and if you backed him, it might be best to remember the race, because he was unlucky. He was in a bumping duel with Sir Bacchus for the early part of the straight and I think had he got the clear run at the right time, he probably wins the race. Looks to be flying this prep but just can’t get luck. If he gets it here he is right in the game.

Race Nine (17:20) : Mypunter.com Eclipse Stakes 1800m:

Back Me: 8 Tucanchoo (Bet Now: $6.00) was an eye catcher when resuming in the Weekend Hussler (1400m) behind Chetwood before racing over 1800m on Cup Day where he sat off speed and chased hard all the way but was no match for the impressive winner Fabrizio. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and does perform well at Sandown.
Big Danger: 13 Cool Chap (Bet Now: $4.20) was well backed when racing over this trip on Oaks Day where he was given a lovely on speed steer and he looked home, but was no match for the in form The Chairman. He is getting ready to peak now, and I think he will be better if he has a bunny to chase. if that eventuates here, he’ll take some beating.
Long Shot: 10 Gabella (Bet Now: $16.00) closed off strongly two back at Caulfield behind smart made Euro Angel before going to the Valley and 2040m where she stuck on pretty well and wasn’t beaten far by Smart As You Think who was solid in the Oaks. She does seem to be a big track horse, so getting to Sandown will really suit her, and I think also back to 1800m is ideal because I am just not sure she is a genuine 2000m galloper.

Race Ten (17:55) : Le Pines Funerals Summoned Stakes 1500m:

Back Me: 9 Extensible (Bet Now: $5.00) looks another classic case of perfect placement from Team Snowden. This mare comes through the Angst (1600m) where she was a little unlucky not to finish closer when running fourth to Dixie Blossoms in a race where the form was franked in the Myer Classic. She seems to really react off a freshen up, and she is four weeks between runs leading up to this. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 6 Metaphorical (Bet Now: $8.50) ran over 1700m on Cup Day and she chased hard down the entire straight but was simply no match for tearaway all the way winner Sort After, and she went on to run a beauty in the Matriarch on Saturday, so that form reads well, and with Metaphorical, I think back to 1500m is a big tick, and the depth doesn’t appear as strong.
Long Shot: 3 Onemorezeta (Bet Now: $26.00) ran in teh 1400m mares race on Cup Day where she got back in the ruck and just stayed there really behind class Sydney mare Artistry. Been out of form for some time but Kris Lees wouldn’t persist with her if she wasn’t showing him something in work.
