Racing in Brisbane continues at Doomben this Saturday for an eight race program, with no real highlights, but hopefully some winners can be found. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 4.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:28) : Broncos Four Game Flexi Handicap 1050m:
Back Me: 4 Saxton Rock (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Matty Dunn trained filly that debuted at Eagle Farm a fortnight back and just got too far back in a leader dominated event behind stablemate Arrestar, who was well backed. All female ownership, so they are trying to qualify her for the Magic Millions, and the trial prior suggested she is talented. Willing to give her another chance.
Long Shot: 9 She’s Spicy (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Real Saga filly on debut for the Liam Birchley yard. No public trials leading in, so she is an unknown, but I like the fact that Jeff Lloyd is booked to ride and there has been early interest in her to win to win the Magic Millions. One to watch for sure
Long Shot: 5 Triple Arrow (Bet Now: $5.00) has been given a freshen up since running midfield on debut behind Dream Kisses at Eagle Farm in mic October, and that filly is probably the pick of the youngsters this way. Trial win since was sharp and the time was good. Big improver here for sure.
Race Two (14:03) : Broncos Game Day Hospitality Handicap (80) 1050m:
Back Me: 10 Beau Jet (Bet Now: $10.00) was a real eye catcher first up when running third to Privlaka, who has franked the form since and had no luck last Saturday. He then ran behind Frequendly where he got back in the run and just couldn’t get into the race at all. Four weeks between runs, so he should appreciate that little break, and he has a lethal turn of foot.
Big Danger: 2 Another Whiskey (Bet Now: $2.20) resumed over 1000m at Eagle farm four weeks back where he sat well back in the run and wide but made up really good ground late behind Frequendly. He meets that horse worse off at the weights here which is remarkable, but he has upside and a lovely inside gate to use.
Long Shot: 5 Lady Jetsetter (Bet Now: $11.00) is on the back up after racing here last Saturday where she looked to a bit of work on speed and for the early part of the straight she gave a kick but felt the pinch late behind Prompt Return. Drops in depth and though drawn wide, I think she can figure here with luck in running. Knockout hope at odds.
Race Three (14:38) : National Storage Handicap 1350m:
Back Me: 2 Ruler’s Pride (Bet Now: $4.80) is an interesting runner here. Two from two this prep, both starts over 1200m at Ipswich under the guidance of Jeff Lloyd, who remains on here. More depth, but is hard fit, in form and will do no work from the gate. Ticks alot of boxes, so it’s hard to ignore him.
Big Danger: 1 Game Of Dreams (Bet Now: $13.00) is a quality youngster that resumes for Team Guy. He ran well during the Winter before failing at Eagle Farm and racing liked a tired horse. Tuned up for his return to racing with a trial behind a couple of quality types in Fiery Heights and Rudy. Draws a soft gate and though unplaced from two previous fresh attempts, he’ll take some beating.
Long Shot: 5 Volpino (Bet Now: $9.50) had a couple of handy trials before resuming on his home track at the Gold Coast where he had the suck run behind the tempo and when McMahon pushed into the clear, he finished off strongly late to win. His form when trained in Sydney reads very well for a race of this class. Market watch for sure.
Race Four (15:17) : Construction Skills Queensland Handicap (75) 2200m:
Back Me: 6 Mandryka (Bet Now: $8.50) is a handy galloper that looks ready to show his best fourth up from a break. He ran over 1500m on Cup Day at Eagle Farm and was off the bit before the home turn but kept chasing the entire way to be only beaten a couple of lengths. Tends to save his best for races at 2000m and beyond, and this is the first time he’ll get that chance. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 4 Flitero (Bet Now: $3.10) comes through the Country Classic (2000m) at Rosehill where he looked in awful trouble halfway down the straight before eventually shoving into the clear and savaging the line to win impressively. That hard 2000m outing should see him cherry ripe for this 2200m assignment. Hard to beat, especially for an in form stable.
Long Shot: 8 Tralee Chorus (Bet Now: $11.00) was a game winner over 1800m at the Sunny Coast two starts back before racing over 2400m at Eagle Farm where he sat off speed and chased gamely when running fourth to Mr One Eleven. That should only be beneficial for him here, and back to 2200m is a big tick. He’s hard fit now and in form. Definite threat.
Race Five (15:53) : One Key Resources & Firecroft PNG Handicap (Class 6) 1630m:
Back Me: 1 L’Entrecote (Bet Now: $3.40) ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm three weeks back where he sat back near last in the run and finished off with real purpose late in the piece when a close up third to Friendly Dragon. That form has held up okay since and with this bloke, he is effective at Doomben and at the mile. Getting fitter and perhaps has the class edge. Hard to hold out, especially with a genuine tempo in front of him.
Big Danger: 4 Bentles (Bet Now: $7.50) comes back to Brisbane after a mini prep in Sydney where he didn’t quite measure up in two runs, trying to lead all the way each time and fading late, both behind the above average galloper New Tipperary. He’ll roll forward here from the gate and look to pour the pressure on and break their hearts. If he brings his best form, he can certainly do that and win.
Long Shot: 10 Speed Gonzales (Bet Now: $17.00) was an impressive winner at this track/distance two back before racing over the 1400m at Eagle Farm on Cup Day where he didn’t quite let down on the shifty surface. Firmer track will aid his cause, as will getting back to Doomben. Rises a fair bit in depth, but senior rider is back on from a good draw.
Race Six (16:32) : National Storage Locker Room Plate (Class 3) 1350m:
Back Me: 14 Renesmee (Bet Now: $4.00) was kept very safe in the market when resuming here at the midweeks and she showed us what she was capable of with a thumping win. Start prior she started near odds on when racing behind subsequent multiple city winner Monsieur Gustave. That reads well for this.
Big Danger: 3 In His Stride (Bet Now: $2.40) ran over 1200m at Eagle Farm last time out and worked home strongly late in the piece when second to Primal Flight. Gets in really well at the weights after the claim for Bek Williams and the form around the horse reads very well for a race of this class.
Long Shot: 2 Deitch (Bet Now: $9.00) is a consistent type for Stuart Kendrick that ahs been given a month freshen up since racing over this track/distance when running a game third to Delightful Feeling, who has franked that form by coming to Sydney and winning. 3kg claim for Tiff Brooker is a big tick, draws well and does race near best when produced fresh.
Race Seven (17:12) : One Key Resources Mining Handicap 1350m:
Back Me: 1 Rudy (Bet Now: $7.50) is a class animal that is first up here for the Helen Page yard. He is a Group l performer who won over the mile here during the Winter Carnival before perhaps racing like a tired horse towards the end. Really liked his trial effort recently behind Fiery Heights. He sprints well fresh and is a five time winner at Doomben. Class will carry him a long way
Big Danger: 4 Jopa (Bet Now: $6.00) ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where I thought he was solid late in the piece behind Allknight Saint given he is a bit of a dud at the track. Doomben is his go, Grylls remains on and he draws a soft gate. Ticks alot of boxes.
Long Shot: 13 Col ‘N’ Lil (Bet Now: $15.00) could be the sharp improver here at a price. She carried a bit of weight when resuming against her own sex and stuck on pretty well behind the in form mare Notonyourlife. Really good record at Doomben, and she now tumbles to 52kg. Just needs to overcome the gate to be a threat.
Race Eight (17:12) : Broncos Superstore Handicap (2MW) 1200m:
Back Me: 15 Dream Of Slips (Bet Now: $18.00) ran over this trip at Eagle Farm three weeks ago where he sat back near last in the run and worked home strongly late in the piece when fifth to stablemate Bidii Babe. He is a mare who likes to have her races spaced, so don’t be worried by the break between runs. Just needs speed up in front to be a threat here.
Big Danger: 12 Sheiswhatsheis (Bet Now: $5.00) copped pressure in front when racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he showed pretty good fight in the straight but was no match for stablemate Notonyourlife and had to settle for third. Better suited around the tighter circuit, and third up now, she should be ready fitness wise.
Long Shot: 1 Cylinder Beach (Bet Now: $10.00) is the clear watch horse here. Classy animal that resumes for Desleigh Forster after running in the Derby path during the Winter and perhaps we now realise that he isn’t a stayer and more so of a miler. Very good fresh record, and though 1200m is well short of his best, he may have the class to overhaul them late.
