12/11/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

The Canterbury night racing season kicks off this Friday with an eight race program. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Even race with a host of chances so going each way with 7 Roller Coaster (Bet Now: $11.00). Chris Walker trained son of Ocean Park that didn’t set the world on fire to the eye on debut at Kembla, but his late splits were quite good. I think he wants 2000m+, but gets a jockey upgrade, soft draw and should be strong late.

3 Field Legend (Bet Now: $5.50) is an improver for Chris Waller. He ran in a maiden on Cup Day at Randwick and probably should have finished closer, but just wanted to lay in under pressure. He’s got talent but just wants to do a bit wrong. If he does everything right, he can win.

11 African Daisy (Bet Now: $9.50) can be an improver at odds for Annabel Neasham. Debuted over 1300m at Scone where she was wide early before eventually slotting. Did make ground but was never really a threat. Not sure I could back her to win, but one for multiples.

The gate looks tricky for 12 Marooniyah (Bet Now: $3.20) but can’t ignore how well she trialled. It was a very sharp piece of work over 900m at Rosehill, leading throughout and won with something in hand to the eye. If she can overcome the draw, she’s the one to beat I’d suggest.

9 Sabalenka (Bet Now: $3.70) looks to have talent. Annabel Neasham trained filly that was specked at odds on debut at Hawkesbury. Never really a winning threat given where she was in the run but was good late. J Mac takes over, better for the run, she commands respect.

10 Tilotson (Bet Now: $10.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. This girl has had two runs back from a break, both coming over 1000m at Hawkesbury and each time she has hit the line like she wants more ground, which she gets here, so she’s in with a shout at good odds.

I’m with 10 Carartie (Bet Now: $3.90). John O’Shea trained filly that resumes. Was down to run on Wednesday at Hawkesbury but with that meeting called off, she runs here. Showed good promise as a juvenile and has some solid form around her. Stable is flying, couple of sharp trials to get ready, I think she only runs well.

2 Celtic Harp (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Chris Waller colt that resumes. This guy showed good promise when last in work, including a second over 1100m here. Looks to have trialled well leading and J Mac rides, assuming he had first pick on a number of these. Hard to beat.

4 Aramis (Bet Now: $14.00) is a son of Contributer for Mark Newnham that resumes. This guy has had two trials to get ready for his first start, each time running fourth, but he has looked to go about his business in good order to my eye. I think he has enough talent to measure up here.

7 Green Flash (Bet Now: $1.95) on top. Chris Waller galloper that was a strong winner at this track/distance last time, and while the win was nothing flash, he’s a progressive galloper heading in the right direction and he can win again in what is a competitive race.

3 Highly Desired (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Claire Lever trained gelding that has been pretty good in two runs back from a break. Resumed with a win at Goulburn before going to the Four Pillars and he was far from disgraced in defeat on speed behind Kiss Sum. Loves getting his toe, in well after the claim…likeable.

Back in trip I like for 6 Dhakuri (Bet Now: $6.00). He ran over 1800m at Hawkesbury last time out and was pretty plain I thought after seemingly getting every chance. I think back to 1550m suits and with a soft gate under Bowman, an improved showing is definitely on the cards.

8 Comme Bella Fille (Bet Now: $2.70) gets another chance. Like most, I was keen on her chances last time out at this track/distance but after looming, she didn’t quite finish it off and was plain late when fourth. Hard fit now and from gate one, off the resumption, she’ll take beating here.

10 Narrated (Bet Now: $4.40) is one of the key threats. On speed throughout at this track/distance in the race mentioned above. She tried quite hard and looked home but was nabbed late by Zudin. Gets a soft run from the draw and down in the weights, is hard to beat.

12 Za Ceibas (Bet Now: $8.50) is a progressive gelding for Chris Waller that isn’t far off a win. Attempted to lead throughout at Hawkesbury last time and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow third. Interesting what McEvoy does from the draw, but he’s got upside.

3 Miss Einstein (Bet Now: $3.30) certainly has the engine under the hood to take this out. This mare is first up, having not raced since July 28 when back in the run and making ground late in a solid effort behind Invinciano. She is a mare who can sprint well fresh and the recent trial suggests she can run a positive race fresh. J Mac booked a good lead.

8 Loch Lomond (Bet Now: $4.80) should be suited up in trip for Kris Lees. This gelding resumed over 1100m here and was good late from off the speed, just looking like he would need the run. Gets the rise in distance and hopefully can sit closer in the run from the draw.

10 Twice As Special (Bet Now: $11.00) is a swimmer who can be dangerous at odds. She resumed at this track/distance and was far from disgraced in defeat in what was a tidy midweek race won by Norwegian Bliss. 1/1 on heavy ground and has run well second up before.

This looks a lovely race for 6 King Kapa (Bet Now: $2.80). Joe Pride trained three year old that resumed over 1100m here. Just got a bit too far back in the run but liked the way he finished his race off. Gets a jockey upgrade and if he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take beating.

12 Smirnova (Bet Now: $3.90) is 2/2 to start her career and can definitely measure up here. Had to fight hard for the win at Hawkesbury last time but found when required and was too good. There is depth to this line but you don’t how good they are til they are beaten.

9 Pick The Score (Bet Now: $15.00) hasn’t really measured up in town before but she is a mare in winning form and has earned a crack. Had the suck run behind the speed at Gosford last time and once she got clear air, away she went and she was too good. Harder here, but a knockout chance.

8 Sur La Mer (Bet Now: $2.70) for me in the get out. Chris Waller trained mare that ran over this track/distance last start. Just a bit one paced when asked by Tommy but stayed on and kept finding when close up behind Norwegian Bliss. J Mac on from a soft gate, she’ll do me here.

Joe Pride is a master at improving a tried horse, and I reckon he’s still trying to work out 2 Lady Brook (Bet Now: $5.50). Couple of runs for the stab;e have been sound, the latest being a solid fifth at Rosehill behind Katalin. Gets the jockey upgrade and third up, should be hard fit.

7 Serena (Bet Now: $26.00) can be an improver here at odds. She resumed a few weeks ago in a Midway at Randwick and just found them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced behind Pandora Blue. Back to this level of race, she could sneak a first four spot at a price.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 6 King Kapa

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 12 Marooniyah

LONG SHOT: Race One Number 7 Roller Coaster
