Nine races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:42) National Storage Handicap 1110m

Back Me

9 Rains Aplenty (Bet Now: $5.50) has been costly to punters in two career outings, but I think he can get away with this one. Hasn’t raced for three weeks since racing on the bog here where he couldn’t really pick his feet up and plugged away for third. Blinkers come off, and the Visors are on, hopefully to sharpen him up.

Danger

15 Grim Reaper (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Domesday colt first up for the O’Dea yard and Aquis Farm. This one hasn’t been to the trials, but going on breeding, he should come to hand early, and with this stable, you should always respect them fresh or on debut, especially when they are carrying the Aquis Farm colours.

Long Shot

2 Blue Book (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Denmarket on debut for the Kelly Doughty stable. This gelding has only had the one public trial, which came on October 31 at the Gold Coast when running second to Animal Spirits. Liked the way he moved, wasn’t knocked about and looked to go about his business quite nicely. Finds Lloyd too first up.

Race 2. (13:18) Broncos Superstore Handicap 1200m

Back Me

1 Miss Exfactor (Bet Now: $2.30) won impressively at the Gold Coast race a few weeks back and it was the aggressive ride from Jim Byrne that won the race for the daughter of Your Song. Set up a winning break and held on. Like she remains at 1200m, plus she maps well and her record is very good. Definite threat for sure I feel.

Danger

4 Dazzling Red (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Chris Munce trained gelding who deserves a crack in town off the back of two dominant wins. Toughed it out strongly to win fresh at the Gold Coast before going to Beaudesert where he led up a field of four and controlled things beautifully to win. Like the booking of Lloyd, meaning they will take advantage of the gate.

Long Shot

7 Mighty Mittere (Bet Now: $7.00) came with a lovely finale to win the maiden two back at Murwillumbah before going to the 1050m here a fortnight back and she ran on well late behind Adoradancer. I think up to 1200m will really suit this girl, as will the pace engaged, so she should get last say here for sure I feel.

Race 3. (13:58) Mark Cotterell Master Jeweller Handicap (70) 1200m

Back Me

15 Hot Talk (Bet Now: $4.00) on top in a race depleted by scratchings. This mare ran over 1200m at Ipswich last time out on the bog and tried hard but just couldn’t ping like usual and had to settle for third to Treasure Gallery. Much better suited here on top of the ground, down in the weights and the Currie/Pegus combo has been lethal.

Danger

6 Don’tbabylon (Bet Now: $3.60) is a former Victorian having her first run for the Matty Dun stable. Off her form in Victorian when with Darren Weir, she’s right in this up to her eye balls. Good fresh record and though comes here off just one soft trial, given the stable pulled out another runner, there must be confidence with this girl.

Long Shot

5 Bold Peak (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Garnett Taylor trained galloper who is going okay at the moment but probably needs to improve a touch here. Slow tempo didn’t help his cause last time at Ipswich when third to Lord Marmaduke but stuck on well. Maps super here from the draw and is a proven city performer.

Race 4. (14:38) Construction Skills Queensland Handicap (75) 2000m

Back Me

7 Dia De Reyes (Bet Now: $3.60) looks one of the hardest to beat here. He was confidently backed when racing in an 1800m Highway at Randwick a fortnight back and aided by a cool ride from Jason Collett, the Matty Dunn trained galloper popped out at just the right time, pounced and dashed right away. He’ll have no trouble with 2000m here.

Danger

2 Snapper (Bet Now: $8.50) seems to be the Queensland version of Burning Front aka ‘The Mouse Wheel’. He seems to be in every Saturday and he continues to race well. Said in the preview last week he’ll win in town soon. That win did come last Saturday over the mile where the punters got it spot on, as did Robbie Fradd with a lovely ride. 2000m no issue.

Long Shot

9 Anzio (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Paul Robbins trained gelding who is racing really well at the moment. He ran over the 1800m at the Gold Coast last time out and closed off with purpose late but just missed out on the win when second to She’s A Youeffoh. Third horse, Three Points, bolted up on Cup Day here, so the form reads well and up to 2000m is no issue.

Race 5. (15:18) Epicure Memorable Events Handicap (85) 1200m

Back Me

1 Crack Me Up (Bet Now: $18.00) on top, purely on class. His class is lengths better than anything engaged here. Better suited over further, fresh record not great, 63kg…few negatives. But, on the flip side, he’ll gave pace on, he has class, draws a soft gate and gets the services of D Browne. I’ll bank on the brilliance getting him home.

Danger

3 Tycoon Ace (Bet Now: $6.50) was very confidently backed when racing over the 1200m here a fortnight back but he let the punters down badly with a below par effort after siting on speed and attempting to lead all the way. He is much better than that, he flies second up and with his speed, I think drawing wide helps.

Long Shot

9 Delightful Feeling (Bet Now: $9.50) is four weeks between runs for the Matt Dunn stable since racing in the Anniversary Highway at Randwick where he had the soft trip behind the speed and battled away pretty well in defeat I thought behind After All That. Surely that form will read well for this of this nature.

Race 6. (16:00) National Storage Locker Room Plate (Class 3) 1600m

Back Me

12 Brassy Belle (Bet Now: $9.00) is a mare for Ben Currie, formerly with Chris Waller, who should more than hold her own here. Beat nothing last Saturday at Toowoomba but she did it comfortably enough and ran solid time for the meeting. She was a city performer when with Waller, so the rise in grade here won’t be an issue.

Danger

3 Beau Isa (Bet Now: $7.00) is a progressive type for the Duryea camp and on what he has done this prep, he deserves a crack in town. Bolted up fresh at Beaudesert before going to Ipswich last Wednesday where he was just off the pace before presenting on the turn and dashing clear when balanced up. Looks quite promising. Gate is a worry.

Long Shot

10 She Goes Pop (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Toby Edmonds trained mare that was completely unwanted in betting when resuming at the Sunny Coast but she defied the odds and under a hard ride from Lloyd, she found plenty. That was off just one soft trial also, so she has loads of upside left and has to rate highly here.

Race 7. (16:45) Mark Cotterell Master Jeweller Handicap (Class 6) 1110m

Back Me

8 Amanaat (Bet Now: $4.80) is a horse that is low flying at the moment for the Ben Currie team who deserves a crack at Saturday grade. This former Hayes/Dabernig trained sprinter has been dominant at the provincials since joining Currie, the latest win being 1200m at Ipswich on a heavy track, which saw him right out, so back to the 1110m on firmer footing with 51.5kg on his back, he’ll take some beating.

Danger

5 Ringo’s A Rockstar (Bet Now: $3.70) is a talented performer who resumed a tick under two weeks back at the Sunny Coast where he got off the pace in the run and worked home strongly late but just missed out on picking up Tarzan. Both placegetters have won since, so that form reads very well, and he does have class on his side.

Long Shot

6 Mishani El Lobo (Bet Now: $5.00) can be hit and miss at times but I have to put him on top. He attempted to lead all the way a few weeks weeks back at the Sunny Coast and gave a decent kick but was no match late for Courtza King. Better off with cover I say and his form/stats overall is better than most engaged here IMHO.

Race 8. (17:35) #bronxnation Handicap 1350m

Back Me

7 Fiery Heights (Bet Now: $3.40) is a horse in form now for the Edmonds camp after winning over 1200m here a fortnight back. Was heavily backed to win and aided by a nice ride on pace from Ron Stewart, the gelding found plenty in the straight and kicked too strongly. Now gets Lloyd back on and he should get the run of the race.

Danger

1 Frespanol (Bet Now: $9.00) is a few weeks between runs for the Gollan stable after racing over 1400m at the Gold Coast where they set such a brutal tempo in front and he was just run off his legs. Couldn’t keep up and whacked away for fourth to Torgersen. Much better suited here and has had a nice trial to tick him over.

Long Shot

11 Privlaka (Bet Now: $5.00) also comes through the race mentioned above won by Fiery Heights and I didn’t think his effort was too bad in defeat considering he was back in the run and had to come pretty wide on the turn. Again draws awkwardly, but does have more upside and he will be strong late for sure.

Race 9. (18:15) Www.brc.com.au Handicap (75) 1350m

Back Me

I think the $11 for 8 Hay Now (Bet Now: $3.50) looks tremendous overs. Matty Dunn trained galloper who resumed under the lights at Canterbury where he had a suck run behind the speed but when they sprinted, he was left flat footed. Still, he kept on and was game in running third. Should get a lovely run from the gate here and he’ll do me each way.

Danger

6 No Annamossity (Bet Now: $4.40) is a mare in ripping form at the moment for the Heathcoate yard who is four weeks between runs since appreciating a strong tempo over the mile here, getting the splits at the right time and eventually wearing down Don’t Doubt Da Wife. Back to 1350m no issue and is a leading contender.

Long Shot

3 Backbench Blues (Bet Now: $81.00) is the big watch here. Former Hong Kong galloper making his Queensland debut after a career in Honkers where he ran well in some handy races over longer trips. Resumes without a trial, but these horses from over there should always be respected when they come to Australia. Definite yard/market watch.
