11/11/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Lee Steere Stakes day

The Summer Carnival at Ascot continues this Saturday where it is Lee Steere Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

2 Rockon Tommy (Bet Now: $2.50) is a potential star of WA racing so I am keen to see how he kicks off his Carnival here. Hasn’t raced for five weeks since bolting up over the 1300m at Belmont, where he sat on speed before dashing clear and running sizzling time. Fitness is the issue, but he has these covered on quality.

7 Truly Belong (Bet Now: $2.70) came with a sharp finishing burst to win first up at Belmont before going to the Belgravia where she sat off the pace and worked home well late behind Perfect Jewel. Surely that form reads well for this, especially considering it is a small field and that Pike steers. Ticks plenty of boxes.

5 In Love With Paris (Bet Now: $5.00) is a smart looking gelding for the Fred Kersley team who debuted with a sharp win over this track/distance at the midweeks back on October 25. Loved the way he attacked the line when asked for the big effort. Harder here, but there is plenty to like and he has fitness.

5 My Grace (Bet Now: $1.80) steps up to the city grade but she deserves a crack at it after a couple of impressive wins at the provincials to kick off the prep. Resumed with a win at York before going to Bunbury where she had a lovely run off the pace under Pike before angling clear and letting down powerfully to score. She can handle the class rise.

7 Glimmer Girl (Bet Now: $4.80) has been given a five week break since racing at Belmont over the short course where she was quite poor I thought after receiving a relatively soft run out the back, but keep in mind she was playing up behind and in the gates. Her best form is good enough for these. Market/yard watch.

2 Chinetti (Bet Now: $13.00) is the blowout here. Speed demon for the Paul Jordan team who hasn’t raced since the Bunbury Metro meeting a month back where he found the class a bit much. Loves racing at Ascot, should find the lead and run along, giving a bold sight, like he did when winning first up at Northam.

3 Reveille (Bet Now: $2.90) is the best horse in the race but sometimes she can be just a bit unreliable and that has certainly been the case this prep. Expected a bit more of her here a fortnight back but I think we have to be forgiving given they absolutely crawled in that race and she was out near last. D-Day for her, but I think class gets her home.

10 The Shoe (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented three year old for the Stephen Miller team who can be hit and miss at times but hard to ignore what he did last start at Bunbury when attempting to lead all the way and fighting hard when second to Vital Silver. I think he will be much better off with cover and if that eventuates, he rates highly.

1 Battle Torque (Bet Now: $12.00) is three weeks between runs for the Durrant team since racing over the 1800m here where he got back and wide throughout and put in an absolute shocker behind Slick Talker. He is much better than that, and overall, he finds a race with less depth here. Keen to give him another look.

Confident that 2 Trap For Fools (Bet Now: $3.70) can continue the picket fence here. Loved his win here last Saturday when leading all the way under in form apprentice Tayla Stone, controlling things from the front and giving nothing else a look in. Maps super once again, hard fit, in form, trip no issue…looks the safe way to go.

3 Final Salute (Bet Now: $3.20) quickly rises in trip but this isn’t unusual for the Durrant stable to do. He ran over 1400m here a fortnight back and worked to the line pretty strongly late I thought when fourth to War God. He will love the rise to 2200m, but this soon? Not sure, but I am not going to go against the judgement of Adam Durrant.

7 Sonnen (Bet Now: $4.60) tried very hard at this track/distance a fortnight back when sitting off the pace and chasing hard, but he was clearly no match for the in form Trap For Fools. Can he turn the tables? I doubt it, but he is always around the mark and should be in it for a long way. Definitely will fill a place on current form.

7 Arcadia Prince (Bet Now: $2.35) is a son of Pierro for the Williams camp who is two for two this prep. Resumed with a comfortable win at York before racing over this track/distance three weeks back and he was very impressive to my eye, charging home from the back off a slow tempo. Should get a decent clip here, fitter, draws well…looks the one.

9 Vital Dancer (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t raced for four weeks since resuming at Bunbury (Metro) where he took on the older horses and aided by an absolute peach from Peter Hall, the son of Vital Empire kicked hard in the straight and got the win. He has always shown promise, right from day one, and this looks a good test.

4 Money Maher (Bet Now: $16.00) is the big watch here. I was a huge fan of this horse in the early part of the Spring, but he was tipped out after a below bar effort at Belmont, where he didn’t look 100% and wasn’t entirely happy on the soft track. Back on top of the ground, fresh, I am expecting a big run from him en route to the Guineas.

1 Scales Of Justice (Bet Now: $1.50) is at a pretty short quote but really, his best form, or something near that, just beats this lot up. Was campaigning in Melbourne with an eye at Group l glory, but he was sent back home after an average effort in the Sir Rupert Clarke. He is a star, and his trial on Monday was outstanding. Wins.

8 Silverstream (Bet Now: $4.50) has to be given enormous respect here. Classy mare who is three weeks between runs since coming with a strong finishing burst to win the Northerly and secure her spot in the Railway. The good lead is that Pike elects to ride her over the stablemates, and she gets a good test against WA’s best.

Back to 1400m should really suit 5 Great Shot (Bet Now: $11.00). He attempted to lead all the way in the Northam Cup last time out over the mile and gave a really good kick but just didn’t quite see it out when third to Material Man. As I said, back to 1400m suits him perfectly, he looks the leader, hard fit…doubt he wins, but he’ll give a bold sight.

4 Gatting (Bet Now: $2.50) looks ready for the 1800m now and gets Pike steering. He comes through the Northam Cup where Autier gave him a decent old slaughter. Badly held up in the straight when appearing to have plenty to offer and it was a total forgive behind Material Man. Gets Pike on now and up to 1800m, his class should come to the fore.

8 Pushin’ Shapes (Bet Now: $6.50) has been up an eternity it seems like but gee he is racing well at the moment. Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile here where he had a suck run behind the speed before getting the split at the top of the straight and bursting through to score. Up to 1800m no issue and is hard fit.

11 Toppa Dawozza (Bet Now: $46.00) isn’t a winning chance, but for exotics, I’d definitely include him. He can be a bludger at times, but he does race well and is usually thereabouts, like he was a fortnight back over the mile here when a close up third to See Me Sizzle, who goes around in the York Cup on Sunday as a leading chance. Up to 1800m suits and he will be strong late.

14 Gunnago (Bet Now: $8.50) looks a crazy price at around $9 in the get out. Jason Pateman trained galloper who resumed over the 1200m here a fortnight back and for mine it was a forgive run given he just pulled too hard off the speed and by the time it came to the crunch, he couldn’t sprint. If he relaxes here, he’ll give an almighty sight.

9 Celebrity Dream (Bet Now: $3.80) is the favourite, and rightfully so. Lot to like about her win over 1000m here two weeks ago, sprinting hard from off a hot pace under Pike to round them up and win impressively in a race which had depth with the likes of Winterbottom contender Floyd. That reads well for this, she should get cover from the draw and launch late.

6 Settlers Creek (Bet Now: $27.00) comes through the same race that Gunnago contested here on October 28. His effort was pretty good in defeat I thought. Just got held up a touch, in restricted room, but I liked the way he found the line late in the piece. Hasn’t won for a while, but he does try hard and he can fill a first four spot.

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 7 Arcadia Prince

VALUE: Race Eight Number 14 Gunnago
