Blacktype racing continues at Morphettville this Saturday where it is Christmas Handicap Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

1 Out Of Aflica (Bet Now: $1.40) on top in the opener. Will Clarken trains this filly who debuted two weeks ago at Morphettville where she was well tried late and despite sitting last in the run in the small field, she came with a well timed run under Pannell to score. Small field and taking on a near identical field, she’ll do me.

With the 3kg claim, it looks obvious with 4 Celtic Vader (Bet Now: $5.00) jump and run. That was the case when she debuted here two weeks back and tired late when fourth to Out Of Aflica. Only 51.5ig on her, she’ll run hard and give them something to chase. Last bit will test.

6 Sandpiper (Bet Now: $7.50) looks the pick of the first starters. Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly that is bred to appreciate further, but the stable so often can produce those types to fire as a juvenile, and her recent jumpout was an encouraging enough. Doubt she beats the favourite, but runs a positive race.

1 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now: $3.40) is on the seven day back up for Michael Hickmott after racing over 1550m last Saturday on the Parks track and closed off strongly from off the speed when second to all the way winner Jaamint. Back up looks fine for him and against this lot, he appeals big time.

Normally you take Port Lincoln horses with a grain of salt, but recently we have seen them measure up in town, including 4 Artful Libby (Bet Now: $2.305), who is bursting to win a metro race for Simon Drewitt. Has placed her past four, the latest coming here two weeks ago when a closing second to the in form Hypercane. That reads well for this.

6 African Awesome (Bet Now: $5.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Had a suck run near the speed at Balaklava and was there to threaten but just whacked away to finish third. Whether he wants further now, not sure, but this is a thin race.

7 Echo Boomer (Bet Now: $5.00) can bounce back here. Ryan Balfour trained mare that ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she did a bit too much work to get on speed and felt the pinch late behind Hypercane. The depth here, overall, isn’t strong, so she can bounce back.

8 Ice Ghost (Bet Now: $13.00) is three weeks between runs for the Richards/Moyle camp since racing on the Parks track where he tried hard to reel in Unlaced but that horse just had way too much head start and was too good, but Ice Ghost didn’t throw in the towel. He’s nearing a win I feel.

1100m straight to the mile I find interesting with 9 Zoulah (Bet Now: $5.00) but she does have the talent to measure up. Resumed over 1100m two weeks back here where she paraded like she would need the run and that is how it panned out behind Smokin’ Val. Has the Clarken polish and got more upside than most.

6 Lord Morton (Bet Now: $3.60) for me. Team McEvoy trained gelding that is on debut. Trialled a couple of weeks ago at Oakbank and looked to move very well when third. This stable is absolutely flying in SA at the moment and overall, I think this is a winnable maiden for him. Hopefully the market agrees.

9 Rushaway Lad (Bet Now: $1.90) looks to have talent for Travis Doudle. Has finished runner up in both career outings, the debut coming here on Cup Day before going to Balaklava when a beaten odds on pop. Gets a significant jockey upgrade and third up, he should know what it is about now.

11 Starlite Rebel (Bet Now: $13.00) is a first four contender. Kym Healy trained filly that debuted here two weeks back where she was specked at odds and while she didn’t win, she was far from disgraced in defeat from off the speed when fourth. Not sure she wins this, but one for exotics.

3 Call Me Shamus (Bet Now: $5.50) should love the rise to 2000m. Phillip Stokes stable is absolutely flying at the moment and he has this guy ticking along nicely towards a win I feel. Ran over 1800m here two weeks ago and was quite good late behind Swiss Hero. Up to 2000m, he’ll take beating.

9 Wild Imagination (Bet Now: $2.90) is racing well for the Jolly camp. Ran on the Parks track a few weeks ago where she was just off the speed and tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off and just whacked away behind Medieval Miss in what was a sit/sprint. More genuine tempo here, she can bounce back.

11 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $27.00) is an absolute beauty for the Hickmott/Riggs camp. Ran over 1950m last Saturday on the Parks track and he was as game as ever when second to dominant winner Darlamax in a race which was much stronger than this. He has to go in wider multiples.

6 Got The Style (Bet Now: $3.60) looks really hard to beat here for the McEvoy camp. Ran over 1300m at Sandown last time out where she was near the speed throughout and tried really hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Kentucky Casanova. Back to 1200m and back miles in grade/depth, she’ll take beating.

5 Magic Reward (Bet Now: $10.00) continued the theme of the Peter Hardacre stable flying when a strong winner fresh at Murray Bridge. Had an ideal run in transit near the speed and once the button was pushed, she showed good change up speed and was much too good. Goes just as well second up and proven in town, she’s hard to beat.

9 Beerz With Clint (Bet Now: $67.00) is a first four contender. Ran last Wednesday at Gawler where he got a fair way back in the run and while he was never really a winning threat, but didn’t mind his finale when third to a handy horse, Secret War. Not sure he wins, but one for multiples.

9 Kayseri (Bet Now: $8.00) gets weight relief and with a senior jock aboard, I think he can run a much improved race. Ran two weeks back here and was just fair I thought behind Lady Dunmore, but have to keep in mind he was wide no cover and doing work. His best is good enough.

14 Sidearm (Bet Now: $4.00) can win this for sure, but he’s not a horse I could back to win given I’ve been with him both runs this time in and has been beaten, the latest coming two weeks ago when pipped on the peg by Lope De Wolf. Third up, hard fit, he gets his chance. He can win, but without me.

Is 8 Outpost (Bet Now: $8.00) looking for the paddock? He was putting together a sequence of wins but as soon as he started stepping up against some better types, he has been found out, albeit far from disgraced. Drops a bit in depth here from last time, so he can bounce back.

6 Rock The Ring (Bet Now: $2.05) for me. He was massive in defeat two weeks ago in the City Of Marion when wide no cover on speed and he fought on hard, only getting nabbed on the peg by Outlaws Revenge. That was a brutal race in fast time, so hopefully there is something left in the tank.

5 Outlaws Revenge (Bet Now: $3.90) is heading in the right direction for Ryan Balfour and could be a sneaky Goodwood contender for next year. How he won the City Of Marion I do not know given he copped a check at the start and didn’t have the best of luck early on in the straight but still managed to get up and win. With natural improvement, he’ll take beating.

14 Calypso Reign (Bet Now: $20.00) is in this for sure I feel. Just got a bit too far out of his ground in the City Of Marion but was quite good late behind Outlaws Revenge, beaten just under three lengths. If he sit a pair or two closer in the run, I think he’ll be hard to hold out here in what should be another fast run race.

1 Rising Sphere (Bet Now: $4.80) is racing in super form for Phillip Stokes. Sustained speed from the front saw him bolt up last Wednesday at Geelong over 1100m when a dominant winner in fast time. Draws wide, but only one turn and gets in really well after the claim for Gary Lo.

14 Fields Of Athenry (Bet Now: $7.50) is a key threat for me. Lightly raced five year old mare for David Jolly that was ridden with arrogance by Gatt at Strathalbyn last time and the reward was a strong maiden, fending off a closer, with a big gap to third. Had run well in town prior and I do think back to 1050m is a tick.

12 Two Odd Sox (Bet Now: $14.00) doesn’t win out of turn but is an honest animal that is rarely far away from the action. Sat back in a small field at Clare just under three weeks ago and closed off well when second to a proven metro performer, Baraconi. He’ll be around the mark again.
