Night racing continues at Moonee Valley this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:30) Mvrc Membership On Sale-bm64 1200m
Hard race to start the meeting. I’ve landed with 3 The Felon (Bet Now: $3.10), resuming for the Maher/Eustace camp. Resumed over 1200m at Pakenham when wide no cover on speed and battled away well when beaten a half length by a progressive type in Field Of Roses. Tricky draw once again, but as a whole, the depth here looks quite thin.
4 Royal Gun Salute (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that won his maiden over 1200m at Pakenham, the same meeting as the one above. His overall time was three lengths quicker and was strong to the line in winning after getting a suck run just behind the speed. Draws to get an ideal run again and stable is going super.
Harder here for 2 El Salto (Bet Now: $5.50) but all you can do is win and that is what he did on debut at Traralgon, leading throughout and winning impressively. Time was nothing flash relative to the day, but he’s got more upside than most here and if he can hold a forward spot from the inside gate, he’ll run a bold race.
Race 2. (19:00) Ladbrokes Odds Boost Mdn Plate 1600m
I have this as a race in two between two horses who were unlucky on debut. I’m going with 4 Red Santa (Bet Now: $3.50) for the Maher/Eustace stable. He was kept pretty safe in betting when debuting over 1400m at Sandown. Thought the ride from Johnny Allen was a poor one. Just waited too long and got dictated to at a vital stage when he wanted to get clear and build the revs. Hoping for a positive ride from the wide gate and with clear air, think he can win.
7 Livingstone Falls (Bet Now: $2.60) looks to be heading in the right direction for the Andrew Noblet team. Debuted over 1400m at Hamilton and I think you could easily make a case to say she should have won. Just got badly held up at a vital stage. Got clear late and attacked the line strongly when second to Stigwood. Drawn wide, but looks to have ability.
10 Seduce (Bet Now: $13.00) gets the Blinkers on for the first time and that could spark improvement from her. Danny O’Brien trained mare that has had a few weeks freshen up since racing over the mile at Benalla where she took a little to get into her work but was good late. Reckon 2000m+ will suit her with time but she gets the Blinkers and Olly steering.
Race 3. (19:30) Moonee Valley Park (bm70) 1600m
One of the best on the program for me here in the shape of 6 Glamour Fox (Bet Now: $3.90). Think this is really good placement by Clare Cunningham. Already scratched from Canterbury to run here and comes here in good form in some solid metro races at Canterbury. Has the hard fitness and back to the mile, from the soft draw, gee I think she’ll take some beating.
Lindsey Smith has 3 Dee Keepa (Bet Now: $2.70) going really well. Last start winner at Sandown, where she was a narrow but strong winner in what looked a handy enough race. Was there to be run down, but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but stable is starting to find their groove once again and she’s a mare with upside and progression.
Sharyn Trolove has 8 Tugga War (Bet Now: $8.00) going super. She has won two on the bounce, winning two back at Bairnsdale before proving that was no fluke with a dominant win from near the speed at Cranbourne. Gets the claim for Nugent and if she can press forward and get control in front, she’ll take some beating.
Race 4. (20:00) Opus Group (bm64) 1600m
9 Loveplanet (Bet Now: $1.80) is short, but he should be winning. He’s probably not at the hype level of stablemate Vowmaster, but he is a very progressive animal for Chris Waller that should take care of these. He gave them a spanking to win his maiden at Yarra Valley last time out. His time was significantly faster than the benchmark race for the same meeting, which is always a good sign. Short but should win and is the good thing of the meeting.
10 Make Mine Hennesy (Bet Now: $4.40) is on the seven day back up for the Saab Hassan team after scoring an impressive win at this track/distance last Friday night. Was big odds, but she was strong late and charged clear to win well. Will need luck in the run from the draw but the depth here compared to last week, as a whole, is much weaker.
8 Yoshi Mokuyo (Bet Now: $12.00) has his share of talent for Kylie Vella. This gelding ran over 1500m at Bendigo last time out when near the speed and seemed to have his chance but battled away pretty well in defeat when fourth to The Moors. Gets Blinkers first time and the claim for Rawiller. Not sure he wins, but a must for exotics.
Race 5. (20:30) Ladbrokes 55 Second Chall-bm70 955m
I’m very tempted to go one out in the quaddie with 5 The Last Napoleon (Bet Now: $4.20). He won this exact race last year and I reckon has been set for it again. Resumed on Jericho Cup Day at the Bool when last in the small field and loomed to win, but condition just gave out late. Great second up record, maps to sit off a hot speed, in form riding with a 3kg claim…bit surprised he’s not favourite.
4 Mount Mitty (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Brent Stanley trained four year old that was totally unwanted in betting when he resumed over 1000m at Dunkeld but it’s a great thing is sustained speed. He produced it in spades and gave his rivals a spanking to win and win quite well. Gets the claim for Rawiller, should lead them up and give a sight. Just depends what pressure he cops.
3 Hard Landing (Bet Now: $5.00) looks well suited back to this level for the Hayes/Dabernig team. Close up second to Alleboom down the straight on Cup Day before racing in the Magic Millions 3YO&4YO race at Ballarat where he found the 1100m at that level a bit much behind Sisstar. Like him back to 955m and is hard to beat.
Race 6. (21:00) Dynamic Print Group (bm64) 2040m
9 Meehni (Bet Now: $3.60) has been a bit costly to me and most punters this time in, but she does find a very winnable race here. It’s her last chance though. How she didn’t win on Cup Day at Morphettville two back I do not know. Freshened up, came back to the mile at Sandown and was good late behind Chief Altony. Fitter, up in trip…looks her race.
4 Muleta (Bet Now: $4.60) is racing like the 2040m will be ideal for him. Brett Scott trained gelding that has had a couple of runs now at the mile and is looking for further, which was the case at Pakenham last time out when back in the run and closing off strongly when fourth to Playoffs. Racing well and up in trip is hard to beat.
12 Absolutely Nothing (Bet Now: $21.00) lacks the class of some of these, but she’s going well for Scott Cameron. Comes through a moderate 58 race at Yarra Valley over 1950m when near the speed before Holland clicked her up near the turn and she held a safe margin on the line to score. Harder here, but is honest and could sneak a first four spot.
Race 7. (21:30) 4 Pines Refreshing Ale (bm64) 1200m
I’m with 5 La Zola (Bet Now: $8.00) for the Alderson team. Market wanted to be with her when she resumed over 1000m at Bendigo and it was spot on. Sat off a good speed, presented clear air at the right time and knuckled down strongly to win and win well. Placed in her lone run at the track and has plenty of upside to come you would imagine coming out of a fast run race.
4 Kootara (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing really well at the moment. Has had a month off since racing at this track/distance when back in the run and making up good ground late when fourth to Our Luca. Gets in well after the claim for Rawiller and with a likely genuine tempo in front, she’ll get her chance to finish over the top.
The one at big odds I can entertain as a knockout chance is 13 Spears (Bet Now: $35.00). Ran fifth last time out on Kyneton Cup Day, a race where Kootara ran second in, so the form ties in and that girl is $5.5/thereabouts whereas Spears will likely go around nearly $40+. Gets the claim for Maddy Lloyd, draws soft…seen worse outsiders.
Race 8. (22:00) Preece Wines (bm64) 1200m
Going for some value in the last via 8 McGarrett (Bet Now: $6.50). Not the most reliable horse going around, but does like racing at the Valley and I think a rise to 1200m will be a positive. Ran over 955m here last Friday night where he was back and never a factor, but his late splits were quite good, suggesting a rise in trip will suit. Finds a thin race, gets the claim…happy to be in his corner at the double figures.
10 Cielo D’Oro (Bet Now: $3.20) should be respected here. Hayes/Dabernig trained four year old that resumed over 1200m at Kyneton when a drifter late in betting but it mattered not to him because he made an absolute mess of them, winning by nearly five lengths. He’s better than 58 grade. Draws wide, but looks a leading contender.
13 Governor Landy (Bet Now: $27.00) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates, but draws soft and is more often than not around the mark. Resumed on Traralgon Cup Day where he had a suck run behind the speed and ran his usual honest race when second to Kurnell. Like him up to 1200m, does no work from the draw. Knockout chance.
