Adelaide racing continues on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday with an eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 1000m-400m; Out three metres for the remainder.
Race One (12:23) : Grand National Steeplechase 3500m:
Back Me: 1 Angelology (Bet Now: $1.75) clearly goes on top for me here. He’s the best performed jumper in the field who hasn’t raced since the Galleywood during the Warrnambool Carnival where he sat off the pace and loomed to win the race but his last jump was an absolute stinker and lost all momentum. If he produces his A game, he will be too good.
Big Danger: 5 Mannertone (Bet Now: $6.00) is a grand campaigner for Anne McGrath who got a well deserved win on the board last time out at Casterton where he led all the way under Braidon Small, and his jumping was really good. His run prior in the Grand Annual was a ripper so that form reads well for this.
Long Shot: 3 Spying On You (Bet Now: $12.00) is the Great Eastern winner who could provide some value here. After the Great Eastern, he went on to run midfield in the Grand Annual before racing over the Hurdles here where he was a bit disappointing behind Searaven. We know he is a quality jumper so don’t rule him out here.
Race Two (12:58) : Richard Angrove 2YO Maiden Plate 1000m:
Back Me: 7 Emzara (Bet Now: $3.40) is a filly on debut for the Tony McEvoy camp. This daughter of Manhattan Rain has only had the one public trial, which came in April on this track where she didn’t appear to do a great deal. Stable did nom her for a Stakes race during the Carnival, so she must have showed something at home to warrant that thought.
Big Danger: 10 Givem Hell (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Commands filly on debut for the Hayes/Dabernig team. Well bred and the breed suggests she should come to hand early, and her efforts at the jump outs indicate she is above average and I get the feeling that the stable may have sent her here for a kill. Big market watch.
Long Shot: 3 Modulate (Bet Now: $8.50) is an Ambidexter having his first start for the Richard Jolly stable. Been kept on ice for some time and has been given patience. Looks to have been rewarded after a very impressive trial effort a couple of weeks back at Balaklava where he looked to go about his business nicely. He should measure up.
Race Three (13:32) : Kevern Klemich Grand National Hurdle 3500m:
Back Me: 1 Honey Steel’s Gold (Bet Now: $2.30) should spank these, all things being equal. He ran in the Australian Hurdle at Sandown a fortnight back where he looked to jump well and was good, but Renew is a star, so no match there. This is a big drop in depth and provided he jumps cleanly, he wins.
Big Danger: 6 Searaven (Bet Now: $8.00) scored a superb win over 3100m here over the sticks before racing on the flat over 2400m on the Parks track last Saturday where he sat near the speed and was far from disgraced behind Super Haze. Back over the jumps should suit and he does have the flat form, so he ticks a few boxes.
Long Shot: 9 Exalted Kanga (Bet Now: $46.00) is still a maiden overall but he has run some really good races over the jumps at his past couple of outings. He comes through the Searaven jumps race a couple of weeks ago where he got back and loomed to win the race but he just lacked the killer punch. Not sure he can win, but a must for exotics.
Race Four (14:10) : UBET Handicap (70) 1300m:
Back Me: 7 Gogo Grace (Bet Now: $3.60) is another three year old filly taking on the older horses but she does look a leading contender. Comes through the Proud Miss three weeks back where she sat near last in the run and worked home well late behind Fuhryk. This is a considerable drop in depth in grade and is one of the hardest to beat.
Big Danger: 1 Chapel City (Bet Now: $4.80) is looking to bounce back hard here after an absolutely horrendous effort a fortnight back over 1550m where he attempted to lead all the way, was hard in the market…but was the first horse beat and dropped out to run a howler. He’s better than that, so give him another look here.
Long Shot: 4 Swipe Me Right (Bet Now: $9.00) could be a key threat here at odds. He was an eye catcher two back in a Stakes race behind Fox Hall before racing over this track/distance a fortnight ago where he again worked home well when fifth to So You Too. This looks quite a winnable race here and I think he will be good value.
Race Five (14:50) : Hughes Limousines Handicap (82) 1950m:
Back Me: 2 Magic Boy (Bet Now: $3.10) is struggling to win another race but he finds a very winnable one here. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he looked all over a winner but was bloused late by General Custer. Gets a 1.5kg weight swing on that horse here and draws much better.
Big Danger: 4 General Custer (Bet Now: $4.80) has drawn a horror gate and that might be his undoing, but there is just nothing else engaged here worth putting in. He got the win over Magic Boy in that race mentioned above and it was aided by a brilliant ride between runners from Holder, who remains on. He does have upside and loves racing here.
Long Shot: 9 Gravitational (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t done a great deal for some time but he finds a race where he can definitely spark back into form. He too comes through the race won by General Custer where he did a bit too much work on speed. Gets in well at the weights after the claim for Finnegan and is a knockout hope.
Race Six (15:30) : Stan Coyle Memorial Handicap (75) 1000m:
Back Me: 3 Itz Invincible (Bet Now: $2.60) gets the nod in a very tough race and an event I don’t want to be a part of in terms of betting. He hasn’t raced for a month since racing over 1100m on the course proper where he led and gave a really good kick when asked by Gatt but was beaten by the plonk horse Idatwo. Looks the leader again and the claim is a big tick.
Big Danger: 11 Crystal Moment (Bet Now: $14.00) is the interesting runner here. Six year old mare that hasn’t raced since September last year but last time in she showed some good signs for a lightly raced mare. Recent trial was quite encouraging and the signs are there that she is forward enough to race well fresh.
Long Shot: 9 Ascendance (Bet Now: $18.00) is a former Tony McEvoy galloper that resumes for a new trainer in Dion Koch. He showed when trained by McEvoy that he can definitely measure up at Saturday grade. Resumes with no trials, but he can sprint well fresh and is a definite market watch.
Race Seven (16:10) : Schweppes Handicap (90) 1250m:
Back Me: Just with the weight swing, I’ll lean the way of 7 Chamois Road (Bet Now: $2.50). He is on the quick back up after racing over 1200m at the Valley last Saturday where he sat near the speed and fought hard but was gunned down late by Camdus. Clever claim for Clark sees this horse with only 51kg and he should take some beating.
Big Danger: 2 Counter Pulse (Bet Now: $2.05) bounced back to his best form with a dominant win at this track/distance a fortnight back, aided by a peach on speed steer from Lindop who controlled things beautifully from the front and gave nothing else a look in. Leads again here but has to give Chamois Road 6.5kg. That is a serious weight swing.
Long Shot: 8 Redeem Bounty (Bet Now: $18.00) is finding it hard to win a race these days and looks a knockout hope. Comes through the Counter Pulse race here two weeks back where he had the charmed run behind the tempo and just didn’t finish it off. He is better than that, but patience is wearing thin. Exotic player.
Race Eight (16:50) : David Tootell Senior 40 Year Anniversary Handicap (64) 1400m:
Back Me: Keen on 14 Sudden Wealth (Bet Now: $4.00) in the get out. Handy mare for Will Clarken who doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates but finds a very winnable race here. On the quick back up after racing over 1250m here last weekend where she got back and held up before bursting through to run a close up fourth to Beautiful Voice. 1400m is perfect and stable did have a couple nominated here but go with this one as their number one seed.
Big Danger: 12 Superchic (Bet Now: $3.80) is a mare in ripping form at the moment for the Jolly camp. Hasn’t raced for a tick over three weeks since winning over 1300m at Balaklava where she was given a lovely steer by Jamie Kah and the horse reacted with a dominant win. Tougher here, but she looks as if she’ll measure up.
Long Shot: 19 Mothervine (Bet Now: $61.00) has shown ability throughout her nine start career and is better than a Clare maiden winner. She did race at that track a tick under a month back where she got back off the pace on a day where those near the speed were advantaged, so for her to make ground was a sound effort. Draws a lovely gate and is only carrying 51kg.
