A bumper eleven race program has been set down for Belmont on Saturday where it is Beaufine Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out thirteen metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:48) Morley Growers Market (rs0mw) 1200m
Tricky juvenile race to sort out with confidence. The Parnham camp is in a real purple patch at metro level in recent meetings so I’ll be with a first starter from that stable here, 3 Bigideas (Bet Now: $7.50). This guy gets the Blinkers on for start one, which always says to me there is intent. Good trial win here two weeks ago where he looked to go about his business nicely. Draws soft and the wet ground should be okay.
7 Seeable (Bet Now: $5.00) looks to have good ability. War Chant colt that makes his debut and he has looked the part in all three public trials. Latest of those came last week at Lark Hill where he won and ran solid time relative to the morning. On breeding, he’ll like the wet ground and stable can get them ready fresh.
8 Galaxy Cat (Bet Now: $10.00) has the hard race experience/fitness under the belt, which should hold her in good stead for this. Forgive the run last time out over 1000m here when wide no cover on speed and tiring late. Bit of gear tinkering to spark improvement and her overall form doesn’t read too bad.
Race 2. (13:23) Tabtouch Better Your Bet-rs0mw 1200m
6 It’sarayday (Bet Now: $4.80) on top. Simon Miller trains this son of Winning Rupert, who has had two trials to get ready for start one and each time he has looked strong, the latest coming here where he placed but looked to go about his business nicely. He’ll take beating in what looks a thin race.
1 Hear Me Sing (Bet Now: $5.00) has strong metro form next to his name and despite being first up, I think he’s a leading chance. Had a three run Autumn prep, two of which at Ascot, and each time he has caught the eye from off the speed, closing off nicely. Trialled well leading in and will be strong late.
10 The Front Bar (Bet Now: $6.00) should love the rise to the 1200m for Adam Durrant. Debuted over 1000m here where she was a bit one paced when initially asked to go but picked up and was good late behind Canny Jack. Like her up to 1200m. Just needs luck from a tricky draw.
Race 3. (14:02) Tabtouch W'speed Plat. (rs0mw) 1300m
1 Ohbeeh (Bet Now: $3.00) is a beauty for Jim Taylor that will put himself on speed and give his all. Led when getting the job done over 1200m here last time out. Didn’t cop that much pressure and only just fell in, but he’s a very genuine horse and is a winner at 1300m. Draws wide, but presses forward and Holly Watson is fast becoming the best apprentice in WA.
6 Classy Macro (Bet Now: $3.50) is second up here and should prove hard to beat. Resumed here two weeks back when wide no cover on speed but despite that, he loomed to win the race but the hard run and condition just told late. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating here.
3 Lies ‘N’ Deception (Bet Now: $17.00) can sneak a first four spot. Spanked them two back at York before racing down the straight at Pinjarra where he struggled and couldn’t pick his feet up behind Vane Tempest. This is a harder assignment but off the York win, he could be around the mark.
Race 4. (14:42) Amelia Park (bm72+) 1650m
3 Zaratite (Bet Now: $2.30) is a Team Williams trained gelding that was neatly two years between runs when resuming at this track/distance four weeks ago where he was near the speed and battled on strongly when second to Naughty By Nature, who came out to win the Strickland two weeks, so the form has been well and truly ticked off. Does he want a rise in trip though? I’ll bank on class/quality.
1 Playing Marika (Bet Now: $4.50) is a back up specialist so despite being on the seven day back up, on paper can be somewhat of a query, it’s a big positive for this mare because the last two runs that she has raced with a break of less than two weeks, she has won each time. Strong winner here last Saturday and once she finds form, she holds it.
Fitter and up to the mile I do like for 7 Lonsdale Lady (Bet Now: $10.00). Resumed over 1400m here two weeks back where she was specked at odds and despite sitting near last in the run, didn’t mind the way she finished her race off behind The Spruiker. She can sit closer in the run and up to the mile is a big tick.
Race 5. (15:22) Crown Perth Plate 1400m
7 Mountain Ash (Bet Now: $9.00) jumps straight to 1400m from 1000m but does have the Adam Durrant polish and is bred to eat up the extra ground. The debut came here and his late splits were quite good behind Astrape. This is a winnable 2YO race and he’s got more upside than most.
6 Searchin Roc’s (Bet Now: $3.00) should love the rise in trip. David Harrison trained filly that was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1200m here where she had three wide cover before easing wider and unleashing a powerful finale to get the job done. She’s very progressive and up in trip, she appeals big time.
1 Guard The Safe (Bet Now: $19.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but I think has the talent under the hood to give this a shake. Wide no cover when racing here last time out and tired late in a total forgive. He’s better than that and with luck from the draw, he can be around the mark.
Race 6. (15:58) Pennisula Dining Room (bm62+) 1200m
Fitter and up to 1200m, pretty keen here on 8 Secret Plan (Bet Now: $3.10) for the Williams camp. Resumed over 1000m here where he got back off the speed and loomed to win, but wanted to lay in under pressure, potentially costing him the win. If he does everything right, I think he has enough brilliance to beat this lot.
3 How’s The Serenity (Bet Now: $9.50) is a smart mare for Simon Miller that is a month between runs since bolting up at this track/distance. She was impressive on speed under Holly Watson, drawing clear when asked for the big effort and ran solid time. Hard to beat.
11 Trade War (Bet Now: $27.00) is a Michael Lane trained three year old that resumes. Both career runs have come on the home track at Bunbury, winning on debut before a disappointing fourth, but was beaten by a smart three year old, Hot Zed. Two trials to get ready and Blinkers first time is a positive sign.
Race 7. (16:33) Mrs Mac's (rs1mw) 1000m
1 Vane Tempest (Bet Now: $2.35) is a winning machine and I think does save her best for the short course. This track/distance was the scene of her last start win, which came two weeks ago against her own age. Takes on the older horses this time around but gets in okay after the claim.
4 Forest War (Bet Now: $4.60) has really put it together in recent runs. Was a few weeks between runs when spanking them to win at Northam last time out, sitting off the speed before producing an electric turn of foot from off the speed to win impressively. He can measure up here for sure and is a key threat.
6 Super Ex (Bet Now: $14.00) is the fascinating runner. Luke Fernie trains this gelding, who for the most part, hasn’t fired a shot at metro level since arriving from Sydney, with the lone success at metro level here being the first run. He has talent. Just hasn’t produced it on a consistent basis. Pike taking the ride for the first time is an interesting one, so watch the market.
Race 8. (17:10) Beaufine Stakes 1000m
Now does seem the right time for 5 Amasenus (Bet Now: $5.50) to have a crack at blacktype. She was a strong winner here last Saturday, finishing best out wide under Parnham to get the job done. Good test for her here, but she’s a mare that is flying and is a 1000m specialist.
The big weight relief for 3 Gemma’s Son (Bet Now: $3.80) is a big tick for this very good three year old. Had a massive weight last time out here and worked to the line nicely but got weighed down with the 60+kg. Gets right down in the weights this time around and is hard to beat.
4 Mervyn (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Luke Fernie trained veteran that resumes. This seven year old is first up without a trial but he is a very capable sprinter when right and will be out of trouble near the speed, which is an ideal spot to be over 1000m at Belmont. A win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 9. (17:45) Furphy (bm66+) 2100m
4 Secret Pearl (Bet Now: $7.50) looks ready to win again so I’ll be in her corner here. Loomed to win over 2200m here two weeks ago after making a sustained run from off the speed but that sustained run just told on her late. If she can get a decent drag into the race, I think she’ll be hard to hold out late.
13 Ellafella (Bet Now: $20.00) has the Lindsey Smith polish and despite being a query at the trip, you have to respect the stable and their thought process. This guy does look a bit one paced so I do think a rise in trip is a positive. At Saturday metro level is another thing but as I said, Lindsey Smith knows what he is doing.
12 Choose Freedom (Bet Now: $46.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Over three weeks between runs since sprouting wings late to win at this track/distance, landing bets at big odds in the process, starting $61 after being $101+ at some stages of betting. Harder here, but handles wet track and proven at the track/distance.
Race 10. (18:15) All Flags Signs/ Banners-rs1mw 1400m
I’ll trust the judgement of Pike making the right call, going the way of 11 Sentimental Hero (Bet Now: $3.30). This guy resumed over 1300m here where he was backed with confidence late and under the guidance of Jett Stanley, he produced a well timed run and was too good. Fitter and up in trip, with a jockey upgrade, he’ll do me.
2 Sentimental Queen (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented mare for Hayden Ballantyne that resumes, with eyes potentially towards a staying feature or two later in the year. This mare had a two run Autumn prep and won them both in good style at Ascot. Resumes without a trial, but she has class/quality on her side.
8 Peppijack (Bet Now: $18.00) has returned well I feel and is a knockout chance. Wide no cover on speed when racing at this track/distance two weeks ago but he toughed it out strongly and was game in defeat when fifth to The Spruiker. If he gets better luck this time around, he can win without surprising.
Race 11. (18:55) Western Racepix (bm72+) 1200m
9 Comes A Time (Bet Now: $6.50) is three weeks between runs for Justin Warwick since racing at this track/distance. He was wide no cover for the trip but kept finding under pressure and just missed out on the win when second to Amasenus, who won last Saturday, so the form has been ticked off. Just needs luck from a tricky gate.
Good test here for 4 Puli (Bet Now: $2.20) but he looks a very progressive animal for Darren Taylor. Four weeks between runs since finding plenty on speed to win at this track/distance, beating a 1MW field, so this is clearly a harder assignment, but has the right racing pattern and gets in well after the claim.
Not entirely dismissing 2 Ambiente (Bet Now: $31.00). Was keen on his chances when resuming over 1000m here two weeks ago. Looked to travel sweetly under Pike but first up, just lacked the race fitness to dash when required. Fitter and up to 1200m, an improved showing is on the cards.
