10/3/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide metro racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out five metres for the remainder.

5 Heavenly Thought (Bet Now: $5.00) ran some outstanding splits to win first up at Sandown before going to Pakenham last Thursday night where he was set an impossible task from the back yet still rattled home to run a close up further. He’ll eat up the 1550m here, has upside and the big tick for him is that he has sustained speed.

2 Skillful Steps (Bet Now: $2.90) a definite threat. Richard Jolly trained gelding who is two for two this time in. Impressive maiden winner first up at Strathalbyn before quickly stepping up to the mile on the course proper and gee I thought he was very impressive in beating Belfast, who did look a blacktype horse prior. Has the mile run under the belt, so he should only improve.

6 Atlantica (Bet Now: $5.50) was well backed when racing over the 1400m here a fortnight back and for the most part, it looked as if Raquel Clark had pinched it in front, but Mo Femme produced a brilliant finishing burst to nab them on the peg. That does leave me with reservations about a strong 1550m, but she maps super again.

See no reason to jump off 2 Zimbali (Bet Now: $3.10). Was on him when he resumed on Sunday at Naracoorte after an encouraging jumps trial behind Himalaya Dream and the fact he was up against nothing depth wise. Won accordingly and not only, he bolted in. Not much depth here either and I think 2400m will only suit him better.

3 Majestic Moment (Bet Now: $3.30) has had two runs now for the Grant Young team and I think star three, he can go close here. Luckless at this track/distance in the first run behind stablemate Casiraghi before going to the Lord Reims last Saturday where it was pretty much a barrier trial, and he was outclassed, behind Etah James. Very winnable race this.

4 Spy Decoder (Bet Now: $8.00) has been a great campaigner for Grant Young for a few preps now and has certainly done better compared to what he was dishing up in Sydney. He ran over the 2250m here a fortnight back and was okay in defeat behind dominant winner Flying Casino. Not quite as much depth here, and I think up to 2400m will suit.

7 It’s A Myth (Bet Now: $1.35) clearly on top. Talented filly for the Stokes team who hasn’t raced since the Carnival here last year when running well in a couple of blacktype races before being tipped out. Been given a really good break, near 10 months, but looked forward enough in a recent trial to suggest she’ll be ready to go fresh.

Exalted Lauretta 10 Star Flight is a Hard Spun filly on debut for the Lloyd Kennewell team. This girl has only had the one public trial, which came back on Feb 22 over 1000m on the course proper when midfield behind Coppergate. Stable apprentice takes the steer, drawn awkwardly, but this isn’t a strong race.

Race really does fall away now. If I had to pick one to fill third, it’d be 5 Eperdument (Bet Now: $12.00) for the Shane Oxlade team. This girl showed good promise as a two year old in the early part of Winter last year in three career outings. Hasn’t been sighted at the trials, but does have good form next to her name and a soft gate.

10 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Grant Young trained filly who was an alarming drifter in betting when debuting at this track/distance a fortnight back where she showed great early toe to lead and gave a good kick under Gatt but was no match late for Incomparable. Has the run under the belt, should be on speed and proving tough to run down.

11 Lead Foot Lacey (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Chris Bieg trained filly who is going really well at the moment without winning. She ran over 1200m at Gawler last Wednesday where she sat on speed under Fawke and gave a good kick but was no match late for Shall We Hope. Third up at 1300m looks ideal and stable is going well.

4 Indian Mo (Bet Now: $27.00) is a gelding first up for the Philip Day team. This bloke hasn’t raced since mid December over the mile on the course proper when running a game second to the above average Shrouded In Mist. Resumes with no trials, but my thinking is that 1300m fresh tells me he’s had plenty of work put into him at home and is ready to go fresh.

Looks a lovely race for 7 Champagne Lucy (Bet Now: $4.60). Clinton McDonald trains this mare, who comes to metro grade after racing over 1500m at Yarra Valley where she faced three rivals and under a lovely ride in front from Stackhouse, he proved far too good for her rivals. Should be on speed again and taking some beating.

6 Tahnee Tiara (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Peter Hardacre trained mare who is racing in near career best form at the moment. She comes back in trip after racing over 1700m at Penola last time out where she was gutsy in defeat after doing a bit of work on speed, settling for second. Has good form behind her and this is a winnable assignment.

5 Double Pockets (Bet Now: $7.00) is absolutely flying for the Sue Nolan team but he just has this awful racing pattern of wanting to flop out of the gates and give away an impossible start, which is what he did last Saturday and in the end, he did an outstanding job to get as close as he did behind Daktari. If he is close enough on the turn without the poor start, he’ll go close.

6 Shiranda (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Bernadini colt on debut for the Darren Weir team. Very rare to see Weir travel two year olds interstate never mind a first starter, so this bloke must have ability, and that appears to be the case from what I’ve seen at the jump outs. Tricky draw, but overall, looks a thin event.

12 La Vita (Bet Now: $14.00) is the big watch here. Stuart Gower trains this filly and we know the stable are very good at producing these likely horses to perform well fresh. She debuted back in October here when down the track behind Long Leaf, one of the better juveniles we have seen this season. Trial win was great and suggested she was ready to go.

Port Lincoln form is Port Lincoln form, and it rarely comes to the fore in town, but must say I was impressed with the debut win of 9 Equilago (Bet Now: $34.00) there. Wobbled on the turn, did plenty wrong, but once she pt her mind to the task, she ran right away and was dominant. Runner up there finished three lengths off the ill fated Chicago Typewriter on debut so there is city form to tie her in.

4 Lord Topper (Bet Now: $2.50) is an absolute beauty for the Travis Doudle team. This bloke has had his last three starts at this track/distance, winning two before a game third here a fortnight back behind the well backed Savatag. Gets really good weight relief here and I am confident he can bounce back into the winners list.

1 Victory Downs (Bet Now: $5.50) is the x factor for mine. Quality galloper resuming for Sue Jaensch. He has got the most ability out of this lot but is better suited over further and comes here with no trials so fitness levels are unknown. In saying that, he is a very good first up performer and loves racing on the Parks track.

3 Captain Duffy (Bet Now: $9.00) had strong market support at good odds when resuming over the 1250m here a fortnight back and I thought he ran quite well in defeat when closing off to run fourth to Blue Tycoon. Up to 1400m is a big tick and though a worry he might produce a flat one second up, I ain’t ignoring the resumption.

Siding with 4 Moon Spinner (Bet Now: $2.20). Tony McEvoy trains this well bred son of Sepoy, who was backed as if unbeatable when debuting over the 1100m on the course proper three weeks back and the bets were landed. Don’t think he beat much, but gee he did it comfortably and ran okay time relative to the meeting. Can only see upside and I think back to 1000m is the right move.

12 Invincible Amici (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Darren Weir trained filly who is just under a fortnight between runs. She ran at Ballarat last time out and chased hard down the entire straight when second to Oscietra. 1000m-1100m is her go, a so a fast run 1000m here looks ideal and always respect the stable when they come over.

Old mate 1 Classy Jack (Bet Now: $23.00) will make sure this is a truly run 1000m. He hasn’t raced for a fortnight since running last in the Nipperkin race at this track/distance. I’d love to see Jack martin punch this horse forward and let him roll because that has been the successful way to steer him recently.

Taking a punt on 11 Think Out Loud (Bet Now: $13.00), a handy mare who resumes for the Phillip Stokes team. This girl had a three run Winter prep, with the highlight being a dominant maiden win at Gawler. I think whatever she does here, she will improve on, but she did look sharp enough in a recent trial to suggest she has come back well.

3 Autumn Street (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Chris Bieg trained mare who had been knocking on the door to win a race for a little while and she finally got the victory on the board on Valentines Day over the 1300m here when heavily backed and leading all the way for a dominant win under Raquel Clark. Rates highly.

13 Vikings Reward (Bet Now: $20.00) has an awful winning strike rate, but in terms of ability, he can certainly beat these. Just depends which version of Vikings Reward turns up. Ran out of condition first up behind Iconic before being most disappointing three weeks back behind Tempting Faith. If the real Vikings Reward turns up, he’ll go very close.

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 4 Moon Spinner

VALUE: Race Nine Number 11 Think Out Loud
