The Sunshine Coast is where Brisbane metro racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:42) Michael Ackerman Antenna's/TV Handicap 1000m
3 Prue’s Angel (Bet Now: $2.15) is a talented mare for Tony Gollan who loved the drop back to 1050m when winning at Doomben three weeks ago, aided by a lovely steer just near the pace from Brad Stewart. I think, or hope at least, Gollan realises that she is a 1000m horse only, so that looks ideal for her here.
2 Aimalac Millie (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Danielle Campbell trained mare who hasn’t raced since the Hurricane during the Newcastle Carnival over 900m where she was run off his legs behind Royal Hootenanny. Has a good record at the track, better suited at 1000m and the small definitely helps her winning claims.
4 Foxy Housewife (Bet Now: $4.20) is a daughter of Foxwedge resuming for the David Vandyke stable. This mare hasn’t raced since July 7 at Doomben when running a game fourth to Princess Posh, and that mare has been one of the more consistent mares in Sydney this Spring. Quiet trial but can sprint well fresh and is on her home track.
Race 2. (13:19) Lance's Mowing & High Pressure Cleaning Handicap 1000m
8 Champagne Jet (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Jet Spur filly on debut for Toby Edmonds. She was very impressive when winning a trial at the Gold Coast last Tuesday, winning under a good hold and running decent enough time relative to the morning. I think of the first starters, she’s clearly the pick of the bunch, so happy to include her.
6 Betaima (Bet Now: $2.60) has the good race experience under the belt. Stablemate of the top tip who debuted on a bog at Doomben and was sound behind Courseshewill before racing over this track/distance where she took on not much I think but she put them away and did it easily in good time. Deserving fav.
12 Stage Play (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of I Am Invincible on debut for the Heinrich/Rodgers team. This girl trialled on her home track at the Gold Coast last Tuesday and looked to move really well, winning by a couple of lengths under Luke Dittman and ran decent time relative to the morning. Interesting to see what she does.
Race 3. (13:59) Eagle Way Stayers Series Heat 1600m
10 Too Hot To Hold (Bet Now: $15.00) for me. Steve O’Dea trains this filly, who steps up to the mile after winning her maiden over 1300m at the Gold Coast. Visually, nothing flash about the win, but I liked the way she dug in when challenged and eventually edged clear late. Think the mile will be okay and did run well in town prior.
4 Lope For Joya (Bet Now: $9.00) was three weeks between runs when racing over 1400m here where I thought Du Plessis gave the filly a lovely ride just off the speed and despite a tussle late, she got the job done. Was back from the mile in that run so stepping back up to 1600m should suit and is a clear threat.
7 Rumberella (Bet Now: $11.00) is a three start maiden for Toby Edmonds but I don’t think that will be the case for much longer. Not sure he can beat these, but wouldn’t be a total shock. Ran over this track/distance last time in a maiden and just missed out on the win when pipped on the peg by Kurumba. Looks a nice type and should be included in exotics.
Race 4. (14:39) Melbourne Storm Handicap (75) 2200m
12 She’s Reliable (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Kelly Schweida trained mare on the seven day back up after racing over 2000m last Saturday at Doomben where she was backed off the map but just had no hope given how far she was off them in a race won by So You Wish. Extra trip, bigger track, fitter, I think butter up on her.
1 Stanley (Bet Now: $3.80) should like the set up here. He ran over 2000m last Saturday at Doomben in an open handicap and stuck to the task quite gamely in defeat I thought when second to Estikhraaj. Has a really good record on this track, and even better stats at 2200m. He certainly appeals against this lot.
10 Iowa (Bet Now: $16.00) is a former Chris Waller trained mare who seems to be enjoying life under the care of Chris Munce. Thought there was a stack of merit in her win at Ipswich last week given she took off before the turn and was left in front a fair way out, but she just kept finding and proved too good. Off that run, she can perform nicely against this lot.
Race 5. (15:19) The Reindeer Centre Plate (Class 3) 1000m
I’m trying to find a negative 7 Awesome Pluck…(Bet Now: $2.45) outside the gate, I really can’t find one. He just looks an absolute moral for mine. Trialled up enormous prior to going into the Kosciuszko first up where Tim Clark rode the horse an absolute treat and really couldn’t have done more on the horse but he just ran out of puff late when third to Belflyer. Surely that form puts these away.
10 Good Time Charlie (Bet Now: $16.00) could be the sleeper at odds. He hasn’t raced since September 29 at Doomben over 1350m where for mine he just didn’t run the trip out behind Courtza King. I think five furlongs is his caper, ran well here earlier on in the campaign, and should be strong late if they go hard.
9 Eight Over (Bet Now: $31.00) is a son of Lonhro for Ben Currie who has come back in really good order. Won the opening two starts of the prep in impressive fashion at Toowoomba before going to Ipswich where he did a good job in defeat, running second to The Real Boss. Bit more depth here, but hard to knock a hard fit/in form galloper.
Race 6. (15:59) Caloundra Automotive Handicap 1400m
Happy to be with 2 Dreams Aplenty (Bet Now: $7.50), a talented gelding that resumes for the John Zielke team. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Winter Carnival when down the track in the Wayne Wilson behind Hopfgarten. Been given a good break and for mine trialled up enormous last week at the Gold Coast behind a ripper in Tyzone. Good fresh record, should roll along and give a stack of cheek.
1 Belflyer (Bet Now: $5.00) was completely unwanted in betting last start in the Kosciuszko but nobody told the horse that as he came with a brilliant finale out wide to claim a great win. He’s even better on top of the ground and has run well at the Sunny Coast before so he certainly appeals here despite the break between runs.
Huge watch on 4 Petrology (Bet Now: $12.00), a former Hayes/Dabernig galloper that has his first run for Matty Dunn. Hasn’t raced since September 30 when down the track at Caulfield behind Furrion. Perhaps a change of scenery and routine will spark him into action and the recent trial behind Princefamous was solid enough.
Race 7. (16:40) Caloundra Produce & Landscape Supplies Handicap (70) 1400m
6 Remarkable Son (Bet Now: $5.50) is a quality son of He’s Remarkable resuming for the David Vandyke stable. This bloke showed really good promise when last in work, showing handy ability over 1800m here. Won his lone first up run and did trial on September 11. How forward he is? Not sure, but certainly has the talent.
2 Mr Bellagio (Bet Now: $6.50) is a beauty for the Liam Birchley team and I think he can go close. Ran over 1350m at Doomben last time on the bog and was most impressive in getting the job done, and the form out of the race has been good with runner up Bryneich getting the job done. Gate one and the claim helps.
19 Beat The Best (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Natalie McCall trained gelding who was well backed when winning a maiden here first up before going to Ipswich where he got back and worked home well enough I thought when a close up fifth to Arterial. Back on his home track, third up at 1400m, he certainly appeals here.
Race 8. (17:30) James Ackerman Memorial Handicap 1200m
4 Hold The Line (Bet Now: $3.20) on top. David Vandyke seems to have a good filly on his hands here. She kicked off her career in the Winter with a couple of runs and won them both. Form out of both has been outstanding and she ran time each outing, so big ticks there, and the recent trial was very good to the eye.
I like 7 Usmanov (Bet Now: $3.60) as a horse. He was heavily backed when winning on debut at Ipswich over 1000m. He was a bit tardy away but got into a reasonable spot before Maloney rode the arrogant race, peeled wide, got on speed and he dashed away like a good horse. Confident he can measure up here.
9 Axella (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Stratum filly resuming for Matty Dunn. This girl hasn’t raced since the Oxlade at this track/distance during the Winter Carnival where she ran a beauty I thought behind a good one in Granny Red Shoes. Liked the way she went in a recent Deagon trial and does have a touch of quality about her.
Race 9. (18:10) BOQ Currimundi Handicap (0MW) 1200m
8 Stanley Park (Bet Now: $3.90) clearly on top. Toby Edmonds has this gelding is 2/2 to start the prep and looks to be flying. Both runs/wins this prep have come at this track/distance and each time he has been dominant. Yet to have a third up run, which looks to be the only niggle, but on form, clearly the one to beat.
9 All Important (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding who is unbeaten this time in. Not sure he has beaten much in both runs/wins but first up the race has produced decent form via Paper Trade and he seems a much more furnished/mature/confident horse. Can he handle the rise in grade? I think he can.
6 Oradonna (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of Oratorio for the Lindsay Gough team who has been up a fair while but continues to race well. Ran over 1050m at Doomben last start and wasn’t beaten far in a decent mares race won by Prue’s Angel. Saves her best for the Sunny Coast and I think up to 1200m should suit.
