The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (13:01) UBET Plate 1000m
5 Emconi Star (Bet Now: $4.00) is an Equiano filly for the Hayes/Dabernig team who was a hard second fav when debuting over 1000m on the course proper three weeks back where she attempted to lead all the way and gave a really good kick in front but was nabbed on the peg by stablemate Sebrakate. Not sure the depth is as strong here and has the race experience.
6 Pelican (Bet Now: $2.80) is a regally bred filly having her first start for the Hayes/Dabernig team. Being by Fastnet Rock out of Seachange, she’s bred to be a beauty. Jumped out a couple of weeks back at Flemington and though held, she wasn’t under much pressure and looked to move quite nicely to the eye.
4 Chokita (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Nicconi filly for the Hayes/Dabernig stable having her first start. This girl jumped out the same morning as Pelican. She was very tardy away and did a bit wrong but once balanced up, she didn’t move too bad. If she jumps clean, I think she’s in the game. But I couldn’t back her to win.
Race 2. (13:41) 36 Degree South Maiden Plate 1250m
2 Kamien (Bet Now: $2.25) for me. The Gelagotis boys train this colt, who debuted in what looked a decent maiden at Pakenham and I thought he was far form disgraced in defeat in a race won by Siege Warfare. Form out of that has been mixed but there has been a winner to come from it. That form line does read well.
4 Regalo Di Gaetano (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Team Jolly trained gelding who debuted over 900m on Murray Bridge Cup Day and at first look, you’d say it was just a run, but I’m not sure he was entirely happy around the tight circuit for his debut but when he did balance up, he showed something positive. Enough to include him here.
7 Kenyan Wonder (Bet Now: $21.00) is a son of Zoustar on debut for the Ryan Balfour stable. This girl trialled a few weeks back on this track behind the Big Danger and though well held, she wasn’t too bad I thought. Not sure she can win, but perhaps she’s one for the future and perhaps could be included in exotics.
Race 3. (14:21) Mypunter.com Maiden Plate 1400m
7 It’s Magic (Bet Now: $5.00) for me but this is a bludger of a race. Peter Jolly trains this son of Casino Prince, who raced over 1250m here a fortnight back and worked home well behind the Hayes/Dabernig runner Juthoor. Overall form around him reads very well and this isn’t a strong race. I think he’s the way to go.
12 Rebel Romance (Bet Now: $10.00) is a daughter of Rebel Raider who debuted over 1200m on the course proper three weeks ago and while she never really threatened her run wasn’t too bad behind Fighting Dragon. Trials leading in were decent enough and clearly up to 1400m will suit this McEvoy filly.
11 Liberty Lover (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly who debuted on Murray Bridge Cup Day where she was unwanted in betting and despite that, her run wasn’t too bad I thought behind a handy one I think in Quaffany. Think she may want further, but looks have the ability to measure up.
Race 4. (15:01) AAMI Handicap (Class 3) 1000m
3 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $3.50) has a horrible racing pattern but no denying the talent he has under the hood is very good. Resumed over this track/distance two weeks back and for mine he was plain behind Rewarding Laughter, even allowing for the bias. He’s better than that, so I think give him another look.
6 Institution (Bet Now: $2.35) is a talented son of Nicconi resuming for the Will Clarken team. This bloke was formerly with Lloyd Kennewell where he ran okay during the Summer/Autumn, but the maiden win did come at this track/distance in sharp fashion. Resumes with no trials, but the bandages are off, so perhaps the legs are all good and the market reflects that.
The win of 2 He Is Golden (Bet Now: $6.00) here from two weeks ago was outstanding. Not sure if it was by design or the horse pulling, but he somehow went from being in the box seat to in front and from there it was painless. Needs to back that effort up given there is more depth, but that was his first run in six weeks, so there should be upside.
Race 5. (15:41) 13CABS Handicap (75) 1250m
Like 1 Zalmona (Bet Now: $3.10). Peter Blanch trains this handy galloper, who is on the seven day back up after racing over 1100m on the course proper last Saturday where he got a mile back off them but had to like the way he finished off behind Columbia. Good record on the Parks track and this race isn’t overly strong.
3 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $4.20) is a hard mare to follow and trust but certainly at her best, she can beat these. Ran over the 1300m here last time where she sat midfield and looked to travel well but just couldn’t come on, perhaps due to the bias when down the track behind Amberdi. Couldn’t back her to win but she goes in everything.
5 Just A Bigger Dash (Bet Now: $6.50) comes through the Columbia race mentioned above where he was unwanted in betting and somewhat ran accordingly behind the Will Clarken horse. I think these days he does tend to save his best for the Parks track, gets gate one and Jamie Kah takes the steer. Definite threat.
Race 6. (16:21) Terry Howe Handicap (86) 1000m
4 This Kid Rocks (Bet Now: $4.00) for me. Belinda O’Loughlin trains this gelding, who certainly can beat these if he’s right and if the trial is any guide, he looks to be somewhere near his best. Sat on speed before Christine Puls pushed the button and he put them away impressively, winning by six and seemingly doing it nicely. Jamie Kah booking a good lead for mine.
5 Mystified (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Ryan Balfour trained mare who was well backed when resuming over this track/distance two weeks ago and she sat wide with cover against the bias and worked home quite well I thought when second to Rewarding Laughter. Good second up record and likes this track/distance.
1 Eclair Choice (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding who had a stint in Singapore before coming back to Stokes. Resumed over 1000m at Murray Bridge where the market said he needed the run and that is how it panned out. He couldn’t dash with them when down the track behind Mazurek. Too good of a horse to ignore off one run.
Race 7. (17:10) Happy Trails Series Final (75) 1400m
16 Miss Wahoo (Bet Now: $4.00) clearly for me. Market said she’d need the run when resuming over 1250m here a fortnight back and while she didn’t win, she was one of the runs of the day I thought when second to Like To Think So. Should come right on from that outing and for mine she’ll eat up the extra 150m. Keen.
2 Like To Think So (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Kym Hann trained gelding who won the race mentioned above and I thought he was outstanding in getting the job done. Sat wide no cover in the run before pressing to lead and yes, the bias was there for leaders, but he still did the early work yet still proved too good. He’s a beauty. Just needs to tick the 1400m box.
1 Life Of Waldo (Bet Now: $19.00) proved that he wasn’t just a Synthetic horse when winning over the 1430m at Naracoorte last time when given a lovely steer from Steph Thornton, who gave the gelding a sweet sit just off the speed, poked into the clear and attacked the line strongly. Harder here, but hard to knock a winner.
Race 8. (17:57) David Fazakerley Freedom Finale Cup (64) 1400m
Giving the nod to 10 Containment (Bet Now: $12.00) in what looks a tricky event. Marilyn Smith trains this mare, who was three weeks between runs when racing over 1300m here a fortnight ago and I thought she did a good job against the bias, closing off to run fifth to Amberdi, who is well above average. That reads well for this.
14 Paris Crystal (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Tony McEvoy trained mare who was 66 weeks between runs when resuming over 1000m here two weeks back and I thought she got a big pass mark when fifth to the heavily supported He Is Golden. Quickly up to 1400m looks the only niggle with her but the resumption was encouraging.
5 Marman (Bet Now: $31.00) is an interesting runner. This horse was formerly trained in Newcastle by David Atkins and showed good ability throughout his career, winning four and placing in a further 12 from 34 outings. Resumes for John Hickmott without a trial, but he’s got the ability to win, so include him in everything.
