A nine race card has been assembled for the Sunshine Coast this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:57) Sporting Chance Foundation Handicap 1400m
6 Belle Roc (Bet Now: $3.50) on top. Brian Smith trains this progressive filly, who has placed in all three career starts, with the maiden win coming last time out at this track/distance where she started Winx odds and while she didn’t win as impressive as the mare, she got the job done well enough. Confident she can measure up now she’s got the win on the board.
1 Sugar Sizzle (Bet Now: $6.00) is an Angela Plumb trained filly who was somewhat unwanted in betting when racing over 1400m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back but despite having no friends in the market, Ryan Plumb rode the filly a treat on speed and despite being out of tickets late, clung on. Was 1100-1400 that day so she should be better for the run.
9 Too Hot To Hold (Bet Now: $14.00) is on the seven day back up for the O’Dea team after racing over 1200m here last Saturday where she settled worse than midfield in a race dominated by those near the speed so for mine I think she was a forgive run behind Hold The Line. I think up to 1400m and the drop in depth will help her cause.
Race 2. (13:32) Bob Jane T-Marts Maroochydore Handicap 1600m
I think only bad luck sees 1 Order Again (Bet Now: $1.95) get beat. Admittedly, everything fell into place for him when he resumed at Doomben over 1350m with a hot speed but that aside, his class was very evident to see and he won with so much authority, and seemingly with improvement to come. Can only see this race being a better assignment…keen.
5 Prioritise (Bet Now: $4.80) looks to get run of the race stuff. He’s been an absolute bludger of a horse to follow but he finally put the win on the board here last Saturday in sharp fashion, dashing clear late when asked for the effort. Should get the ideal drag up via Glitra and with only 52kg on his back, he can threaten.
7 Fast Arrow (Bet Now: $61.00) has to improve on recent form but one thing we do know is that he saves his best for his home track here. He ran at Gympie last time and ran fourth in the Muster Cup behind Fasta Than Light. On his best form, he can win. Doubt he can win on current form, but if he improves slightly he could fill a first four spot.
Race 3. (14:07) All Computer Services Plate (Class 6) 1000m
Back Me: This really does look a case of how far 3 Tactical Advantage (Bet Now: $1.24). Kris Lees trains this gelding, who was so explosive when winning first up at Randwick before rising to 61kg in weight three weeks ago at Rosehill and that probably just beat him in the end when second to Trekking. Back to this level, he should be winning.
9 Just Orm (Bet Now: $9.00) is the pick of the rest, but the rest look realistically 10+ lengths off Tactical Advantage. He was just fair when resuming behind Tarzan at Doomben but a recent trial suggests he has come on. Can probably win a race, but against the Kris Lees horse, I’d say highly unlikely unless that horse gets a poor steer.
2 Siliqua (Bet Now: $51.00) can flash home for a place if things fall into place. Got too far back when resuming at this track/distance before racing over 1200m at Doomben where the bias was against him but he worked home okay late behind Tversky, who won on Saturday, so the form reads well and he saves his best for here.
Race 4. (14:42) Rumba Beach Resort Caloundra Handicap 1000m
I’ll give 8 Cailini (Bet Now: $26.00) another chance. Debuted with an electric maiden win at Ipswich in very impressive fashion prior to racing over 1200m here where she checked off heels early in the race and perhaps she resented that? Not sure, but her finale was a touch flat. If she runs anywhere near her debut, should run well.
3 Racecourse Road (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Show A Heart gelding resuming for the Chris Munce stable. He contested a couple of Stakes races during the Winter Carnival where he ran okay but just couldn’t quite measure up. Been given the good little break and was an impressive trial winner at Doomben last Tuesday.
I’m very intrigued to see how 6 Gypsy Toff (Bet Now: $7.50) goes. Tom Button trains this filly who is an absolute speed demon and has really caught the eye during her short career, her latest run coming over 1050m at Rockhampton when backed off the map and bolting in, albeit she did get a rather cheap lead. I think her best chance is to roll along in front and give them something to chase.
Race 5. (15:22) Clinic One Handicap (80) 1400m
Bryan Dais looks to have a really promising horse in the shape of 5 Looks Like Elvis (Bet Now: $2.15). Came with a brilliant finale to win over the Doomben mile two back before coming back to 1400m at the Gold Coast two weeks ago and once he was able to land the box seat, he was always going to win and did so given how close he was. Think he’ll be even better suited on the bigger track and looks a great bet.
1 Courtza King (Bet Now: $3.70) has had three runs back from a spell for Tony Gollan and has steadily got better with each outing, with his last start resulting in an on speed win at Doomben. Yes, aided by bias, but fought on very strongly and clung on to beat some nice types, and the form out of that race has been franked.
7 Really Reilly (Bet Now: $18.00) isn’t one of mine but he gets conditions to suit to perhaps improve at odds. He ran over the mile three weeks ago at Doomben on a day where those on speed were seriously advantaged and he had no hope of winning given he was back in a race won by Glitra. Good weight relief once again, inside draw and tends to save his best for this track.
Race 6. (16:02) Reed Racing Handicap (75) 2400m
10 Sir Barnabus (Bet Now: $4.60) on top for me. Jason Edwards trains this son of Rothesay, who comes through the Fighting Teo race from the Gold Coast a fortnight ago. He got a mile back off the pace, settling near last throughout before coming with a finishing burst out wide but that burn just meant he couldn’t attack the line late when third to Fighting Teo. Bigger track should help his cause. Hopefully can sit closer in the run.
7 Fighting Teo (Bet Now: $2.15) is a Kevin Kemp trained gelding who was confidently supported when racing at the Gold Coast a fortnight back and gee he did a huge job to win considering he was wide no cover throughout yet kept creeping forward, eventually took the lead and though under pressure, he kept finding and held them at bay. 2400m on the bigger track looks no issue.
11 Antigone (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Barry Lockwood trained mare who has been going quite well at the moment and the 2400m here will pose no issue for her. She comes through the Fighting Teo race where she got a fair way off the pace and was seemingly going nowhere but picked up and was good late to run fourth. Two wins have come here and her recent best efforts have come at this track.
Race 7. (16:42) Bloomhill Cancer Care Handicap 1200m
11 Old Habits (Bet Now: $18.00) is a son of Tale Of The Cat resuming for the Rob Heathcoate team. This bloke had a very solid Autumn prep for the stable, winning several races and showing signs that he is a proper Saturday class horse. Best form is over further, but the speed engaged looks decent enough and his recent trial was quite good.
9 My Girl Hayley (Bet Now: $3.70) comes through the Shesees Everything race at Doomben three weeks ago and I thought Jim Byrne rode the mare an absolute treat in front and she gave a good kick on the turn but the stablemate wore her down. 3/5 at this track and looks to get a really good run near the speed. Definite threat.
6 Malvern Estate (Bet Now: $4.20) was heavily backed when racing over 1200m at Doomben three weeks ago and at first glance, if you were on, you would have been disappointed, but given the extreme bias helping those on speed, he really had no chance of reeling in Fiery Heights and that’s been franked with that horse doing nothing on Saturday. Would love him back to 1000m, but he can run well here.
Race 8. (17:17) Bloomhill Op Shops Handicap (70) 1200m
The safe option looks to be 10 Jardin Rouge (Bet Now: $4.20), a mare in ripping form for Brian Wakefield. Has had four runs this time in, winning her last three, the latest coming over this track/distance a couple of Sundays back when leading all the way to bolt in. Hardest test to date, but a mare in form from the good draw, she’s likeable.
2 Mr Bellagio (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Liam Birchley trained gelding who resumed at Doomben a few weeks ago and he was unlucky not to finish closer when third to Happy Hooves, just getting slightly held up when full of running. Been given a little freshen up and the form out of that race has been quite good. Definitely one of the hardest to beat for mine.
6 Rhyming (Bet Now: $12.00) is a hard mare to trust for Steve Tregea but she can win if things fall into place for her. Five weeks between runs since racing over 1350m at Doomben where to the eye she was disappointing behind Arena Salon but the jockey felt the horse didn’t appreciate the seven day back up. Happy to give her another chance fresh.
Race 9. (17:57) Bloomhill Volunteers Plate (Class 3) 1600m
Happy to be with 8 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $2.80). Steve O’Dea trains this gelding, who can be hit and miss at times, but he’s starting to put it all together now. He ran over this track/distance just over three weeks ago and absolutely bolted in, winning by nearly five lengths without being fully extended by Boris. Tick over trial last week was good enough to suggest he’s holding his form.
5 Cedarwood (Bet Now: $4.20) is a horse who I couldn’t back to win because he’s cost me one too many times but he’s certainly a threat. Hasn’t been far away of late, the latest coming three weeks back over the Doomben mile behind Glitra. Gets the run of the race from the inside gate and can definitely win…just without me.
7 Oakfield Monarch (Bet Now: $41.00), to the eye, looks to be a working progress for the Tony Gollan stable. First two runs for the stable were ordinary so he sent the horse to Toowoomba to build up some confidence and he ran much better albeit in a weak race won by Arazona. Should be hard fit now and for wider exotics, I’d include him.
