1/2/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm

Eagle Farm is where Brisbane metro racing takes place on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

There are a few unknowns in this race, so a bit of a throw at the stumps in the shape of 11 Real Fine Wine (Bet Now: $13.00), a daughter of Real Saga on debut for Rex Lipp. This colt is out of a mare Lipp used to train in Star Drop, and she was handy, won a few races and was a handy two year old. No trials, but am sure has had a jumpout at Toowoomba, stable finds Steph Thornton to ride on debut and draws a soft gate.

8 Mishani Miss (Bet Now: $3.80) is a daughter of Denman for Les Ross that was well specked at big odds when resuming over this track/distance a fortnight back and the bets were landed as she sat on speed before being clicked up by Jackson Murphy and gave a really good kick in the straight to win well. Harder here I feel, but hard to knock that win.

10 Gamboa (Bet Now: $7.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with the Maher/Eustace stable that is now with Kacy Fogden and this stable is flying at the moment so I’m keeping tabs with this colt. Finished midfield in the Breeders Plate at Randwick back in October, and while that form in Sydney hasn’t been ticked off, that form line does read far superior to anything engaged here and has trialled well leading in so watch the market and how he parades.

3 Shalwa (Bet Now: $1.70) is five weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since racing in the Nudgee at this track/distance when outclassed but far from disgraced in a fast run race won by a closer in Tahitian Dancer. This looks more her level and she is an effective mare when racing with fresh legs. Hopefully the market likes her as well.

2 Lashoni (Bet Now: $10.00) is a daughter of Shamus Award for Tony Gollan that resumes, having not raced since November 23 at Doomben when down the track behind V J Day but was at the end of a decent prep and perhaps was looking for the paddock. Been given a good break and while there are no public trials, I’m sure she’s had a jumpout or two in readiness.

10 Denman Unlimited (Bet Now: $10.00) can be an improver here at odds for Brett Cavanough, who ran at Doomben last Thursday when back in the run from the wide gate and was never really a winning threat, but did make up ground. Has plenty going for her here, namely some weight relief, an inside gate and up in trip on a bigger track.

4 Trevelyan (Bet Now: $1.65) looks one of the better bets on the program. He’s a beauty for Chris Meagher and you have to go back to late May to find the last below par run from him. He ran in the Wave at the Gold Coast and looked home except the final couple of strides when nabbed by A Man To Match. Back to the mile and back to a Class 6, he’s really likeable.

This is one of the easier races that 7 Gresham (Bet Now: $4.50) has contested in some time and even though he hasn’t won in over a year, he’s hard to beat here. Four weeks between runs since contesting the Wave when a close up fourth to A Man To Match. He is really well suited back to 1600m and gets run of the race from gate one.

Les Ross has done a fab job with 10 Great Powers (Bet Now: $10.00) and while she’s been up forever it seems, she continues to race well. Ran over 1400m here two weeks ago and for mine was ridden upside down when leading and she was one of the first beat when midfield behind Akage. Better ridden cold IMO, so hopefully that eventuates here.

7 Our Mantra (Bet Now: $3.60) has the different form and a stack of upside so in a tricky race, leaning his way. Resumed for Rob Heathcoate over 1400m here two weeks ago in testing conditions and really liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Akage over an unsuitable trip. May need one more, but the resumption was a beauty and he does more upside than most.

1 Cool Chap (Bet Now: $2.10) had been racing well for Rob Heathcoate without winning but he broke a long run of outs when winning over the mile here a fortnight back, sitting off the good speed and getting a head start on key rivals, finishing best to win. Up to 1800m should be fine for him and now he’s won, he may go on with it.

2 Le Juge (Bet Now: $5.50) is suited up to 1800m. He was chasing from a long way out over the mile here two weeks ago and got close but that mid race burn to catch up with those in front just told late and he couldn’t finish it off. Hopefully the tempo won’t be as hectic as last time and we know that at his best he’s certainly up to beating these.

4 Ditmas (Bet Now: $6.00) is a speed demon for Mel Eggleston that resumes. This six year old hasn’t raced since September 7 at the Gold Coast when a narrow second to Le Mattan in what has turned out to be a strong form reference. Unbeaten fresh and has been tuned up for his return with a sharp trial win at the Gold Coast.

5 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $17.00) is a huge yard/market watch. Talented son of Sequalo for Barry Lockwood that resumes, having not raced since June 22 at this track/distance when midfield behind Hirtshals during the Winter Carnival. Given a very quiet trial at Deagon, but stable can get them right for a first up assault and this bloke can sprint well fresh.

7 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $15.00) is a quality animal when right so interesting to see how he goes first up. Last raced in a Class 6 at Doomben in August when down the track behind Tokoriki Lad in a race which had far greater depth than what he faces here. Trialled well enough at Doomben back on December 31 and has dodged the Summer Carnival in readiness for the off season period.

2 Impasse (Bet Now: $3.30) is a former Chris Waller runner that had his first outing for Matty Dunn over 1200m here two weeks ago when completely unwanted in betting but despite having no friends in the market, he ran an absolute belter behind Pennino, running second. Fitter and up to 1400m, he should take some beating here.

9 Red Doulton (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing really well at the moment for Nat McCall and is a leading chance here. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago on a shifty track and tried hard, as she always does, but had no answers late for the finale produced by Akage. Better suited on firmer footing and despite more depth here should prove hard to beat.

1 Magnufighter (Bet Now: $6.50) is a son of Magnus for Gary Duncan that resumes, having not raced since September 21 over 1800m here where he was ridden somewhat upside down when pressing forward to be on speed and couldn’t quite finish it off behind Looks Like Elvis, who at the time was the form horse in Queensland. Can sprint well fresh and has trialled well leading in.

15 Sayl (Bet Now: $9.00) has turned the corner I feel for Chris Waller. When racing in Victoria, he was a real rogue, but bolted up to break the maiden tag at Wyong before racing at Doomben last Thursday when doing work on speed and just feeling the pinch late when second to Helsun. Think that form reads okay for this and the bigger track should suit. Hopefully he relaxes.

Les Kelly has done a fab job with 8 The Kingdom (Bet Now: $3.80) and no reason why he can’t run well again. Lovely ride from Adin Thompson saw him win over 1500m here a fortnight ago, sitting off a genuine speed before peeling into clear air and finishing best. 1600m should be okay for him and finds another winnable assignment.

11 Miss Shanti (Bet Now: $18.00) isn’t the most reliable horse in terms of greeting the judge first but is capable of winning on her best form. Resumed over the mile at Doomben on what was a shifty track and didn’t fire a shot at all behind Slow Hands in a race which had more depth than what she faces here. Firmer footing and onto a bigger track, she can improve big time.

7 Femme Fireball (Bet Now: $5.50) is a quality mare for Rob Heathcoate who hadn’t done a great deal in some time but it was an encouraging resumption over 1200m here a fortnight back, finishing off with purpose to run third to Pennino. Better suited on firmer footing and she does have a sharp second up record so off the resumption, she’s hard to beat.

6 Manaya (Bet Now: $3.50) is a daughter of Hinchinbrook for the Michael Costa stable that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since September 14 at Doomben when at the end of a long prep and a seemingly tired horse when midfield behind El Campeador. Has been given a good break and tuned up for the return with a couple of strong trials.

1 Sovereign Nation (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding that resumes. This veteran hasn’t raced since August 31 here when a close up fourth over 1400m behind The Avenger. He meets that horse here and actually meets him worse off at the weights, but has trialled well leading in on three occasions, so for mine, the grounding has been put in to run well.

8 Bells Approaching (Bet Now: $10.00) should eat up the 1400m here for Matty Dunn and he does find what I think is a very winnable race the way he’s going. Good late over 1200m at Murwillumbah two back before racing at that trip again two weeks ago at Eagle Farm and again caught the eye when second to Master Jamie, a highly talented three year old, so that reads well for this and up to 1400m is a big tick.

2 Take Tea (Bet Now: $7.00) has a touch of class herself and though a little query at 1400m, has to be rated highly. This filly was a total forgive first up at the Gold Coast given the saddle slipped. Then raced over 1200m here a fortnight back and worked home pretty well when fourth to Roasted. Races as if 1400m suits and should be hard fit.

4 Gala Miss (Bet Now: $17.00) is racing as if 1400m will suit. She comes through the Roasted race from two weeks ago over 1200m here where she was back off the speed and never really a winning factor but poked through and was good late to run a close up fifth. Think extra ground is what she’s looking for so I think she is one that’s a knockout chance.

BEST BET: Race Two Number 3 Shalwa

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 4 Trevelyan

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 8 Bells Approaching
