1/1/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, Vo Rogue Plate day

The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues at Doomben this Saturday, headlined by a key lead up towards the Magic Millions Guineas, the Vo Rogue Plate (1350m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out 3.5 metres for the entire circuit.

3 Kingston’s Here (Bet Now: $2.60) is a progressive four year old for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that took on four rivals fresh at the Sunny Coast. Started Winx odds and pretty much won as he pleased in a good return. Showed promise when last in work and has upside. Leading contender.

1 Frederick The Dane (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Team Edmonds trained gelding who was the subject of good support when racing over 1100m at Ipswich last time out and in the end, it was sustained speed from the front that came to the fore and despite getting the staggers late, he was a a sharp winner. Similar tactics here and he’ll take catching.

10 Snitzari (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Kris Lees trained mare that should be suited up in trip after resuming over the 900m scamper at Scone where she paraded like she would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind stablemate Excelness. Second up winner and gets Ryan Maloney so has a bit going for her.

Fitter and up to 2000m are two big ticks for 3 Takeittothelimit (Bet Now: $6.50). Team Sears trained mare that resumed over the mile here where she was unwanted in betting but liked the way she finished her race off from the back when far from disgraced behind Dune Forty Five. Two time second up winner, she’s right in this.

5 Elegant Drover (Bet Now: $5.50) is a query at 2000m but is lightly raced with upside and is in form. Lovely ride from Ben Thompson saw him win over 1700m at Ipswich last time, coming back in trip from 1800m the couple of runs prior. Good test for him here, but I think he’s up to it.

2 Vendidit (Bet Now: $5.50) is a proven metro performer who maps super and with the claim, is certainly likeable. He hasn’t been far away of late, the latest run behind Elegant Drover in the race mentioned above. Racing like 2000m will suit and if gate one is used to advantage, he’ll only run well.

5 Golden Artie (Bet Now: $8.50) is the each way bet for me. He resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast and just didn’t really get a chance to build up momentum, but was good late when eventually clear, finishing fourth. He’ll eat up 1200m and hopefully gets better luck this time around from a handy gate.

4 Soaring Ambition (Bet Now: $1.90) could well just be better than this lot. It was a brilliant debut win in the 2YO Wyong Magic Millions, charging home from near last to get the job done in good style. Was it a strong race re depth? I’m saying no, but she does look above average and stable rarely get it wrong when they travel.

1 Mishani Warfare (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Les Ross. He was six weeks between runs and back to 1000m from 1200m when winning the Sunny Coast race mentioned above that Golden Artie contested. Peach steer from Morris helped and got the verdict, just. Runner up has bolted in since so the form reads well.

11 Toorooloo (Bet Now: $6.00) is a quality mare for David Vandyke that has been kept on ice since resuming with an impressive win on the Poly track at the Sunny Coast, albeit against inferior opposition. Kept up to the mark with a sharp trial win at Deagon last Tuesday and stable is in form.

7 Boom Spender (Bet Now: $7.00) should be suited up in trip with the run under the belt. He was off a let up when racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm a few weeks back. Sat on speed throughout and tried hard, but condition just gave way late behind Garibaldi. Better for the run, he has to be respected.

12 Queen Sweeper (Bet Now: $17.00) can bounce back. Was fancied when racing two weeks ago at Eagle Farm but was forced to sit wide no cover for the trip and that early burn just told on her late when third. Prior form was strong and good enough to command respect here, especially off a forgive run.

6 Strange Charm (Bet Now: $2.80) looks really well placed here by the Kris Lees camp. All three runs for the camp have been full of merit, the latest at Rosehill when far from disgraced behind Shihonka. This is a massive drop in depth for her and with the good draw, she’s clearly the one to beat.

11 Zoulou Dancer (Bet Now: $20.00) is an underrated mare for Gary Doughty that came with a well timed run under Fradd to win at Eagle Farm three weeks back, sitting wide with cover before peeling wider and finishing over the top. More depth here, but can’t put a line through her given how well she’s going.

8 Red Bloom (Bet Now: $23.00) might want one more but her resumption was quite encouraging. Resumed behind Dovetail Diva here two weeks back and her finale was more than sound given she was a trip short of her best when fourth. Form around her from the Winter reads very well for a 78.

1 Wapiti (Bet Now: $6.00) is racing well for Gary Duncan and I think has to be respected here. Ran two weeks ago at Eagle Farm when near the speed throughout. He tried to dash and win but with the 58kg impost, he just couldn’t quite finish it off. That was 2200m and I do think back to 2000m is a big tick.

5 Humbolt Current (Bet Now: $5.00) will win a race like this before too long, but it won’t be with me having him on top. He looked all over a winner at Eagle Farm last time out when looming up but I think he turned it up and the leader, Tears Of Love, fought them off to win. Back to 2000m is a positive and has upside…but gee he’s hard to trust.

8 Navy Cross (Bet Now: $15.00) is second up here with more upside than most and is in the right camp to be dangerous. Resumed over the mile at Randwick where he couldn’t keep up but once he got balanced, he hit the line with real purpose I thought behind Francesco Guardi. He is a second up winner and has run well in the Sunshine State previously.

2 Tiger Heart (Bet Now: $7.00) is the map horse and therefore, the bet. I’d be forgiving of his Gold Edition run. Nothing really went right for him in the run and just couldn’t get a chance to get involved. Ryan Maloney knows him well and he should get the drag up behind Shihonka, proving strong late.

3 Starman (Bet Now: $6.50) deserves another chance. Strong winner fresh at Rosehill before going to 1400m at Randwick where he seemingly had his chance and I thought was plain behind stablemate Toomuchtobear. Hard fit now third up from a break and I think back to 1350m is a big tick.

1 Release The Beans (Bet Now: $6.50) looks to have come back in really good order and appears on track for the Gold Coast. Resumed two weeks ago in the Gold Edition where he did plenty of work on speed outside Rhapsody Rose and was entitled to drop away, but he kept finding and was only nabbed late. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating here.

Godolphin rarely get it wrong when they bring them to Brisbane for a Stakes race so you have to respect ‘Special K’ himself 1 Kementari (Bet Now: $6.50), who despite his enigmatic ways, is flying this time in. Latest run came in the Hunter when a fast finishing fourth at Newcastle against the track pattern behind Lost And Running, which is A1 form for this. Liked the tick over trial and he’ll take a power of beating if he’s within range 400m out.

10 Garibaldi (Bet Now: $16.00) has found that winning feeling again and I think he can go on with it now. It was D-Day for him a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he found a very winnable Class 6. Race was there to be won and he took advantage, drawing clear late to win in impressive fashion. Hard to beat.

12 Blondeau (Bet Now: $21.00) is a beauty for Chris Waller that has been kept on ice, having not raced since Cup Day at Flemington where he got a mile out of his ground but was very good late when third to Lackeen. Just a quiet tick over trial to get ready but he should be strong late.

The GF is two weeks away, but the class and brilliance of 4 Isotope (Bet Now: $2.45) can’t be ignored and I think she wins. High quality galloper for Tony Gollan that hasn’t raced since The Championships at Randwick in the Arrowfield Sprint where she should have won but had no luck in the straight. Dodged the Winter and Spring in preference for this and loved the way she moved in a recent Doomben trial.

13 Katalin (Bet Now: $7.00) is a quality mare for James Cummings that is hit and miss but her best is quite sharp, which was the case first up and last start, interestingly both on firm decks at Rosehill, so will be interesting to see if she can translate that away from the track at this level. If she can, they’re cooking with gas.

12 Eloquently (Bet Now: $16.00) is three weeks between runs for Steve Tregea since contesting the Just Now at Eagle Farm where she looked the winner when she presented but couldn’t quite see it out and was nabbed on the peg by East Asia. Back to 1200m is a big tick for her and hard fit, she’ll take beating.
