Chautauqua has given punters plenty to cheer about and after he was retired last night Sportsbet refunded $24,000 in bets on the champ.

Despite his barrier shenanigans, plenty of punters were still happy to back the ‘Grey Flash’ making the Everest field and other future Group 1 sprints.

The online bookmakers’ generous, pre-nomination refund rule, ensured those punters were not penalised by Chautauqua’s antics, which forced the end of his racing career.

Bet’s refunded include:

  • The Everest
  • To win another Group 1
  • Winterbottom Stakes
  • Manikato Stakes
  • VRC Sprint

“I’m sure punters are just as disappointed as we are that Chautauqua’s career is over – hopefully this refund will lift their spirits. He was an exciting racehorse and has given us some great memories to look back on,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
