After a good start to the Shergar Cup, the Rest of the World featuring Australian riders Kerrin McEvoy and Blake Shinn has had to settle for third place in the team event at Ascot.
The jockeys’ series was won by the womens’ team with apprentice Sammy Jo Bell taking the Silver Saddle award as the leading rider.
McEvoy struck first for the Rest of the World when he steered Secretinthepark to victory in the opening race.
Jamie Spencer won two races to steer the Britain and Ireland team to 67 points, one more than the Rest of the World.
But two winners to Bell and one to Girls team captain Emma-Jayne Wilson helped them to 80 points.
Bell was a last-minute replacement for the injured Cathy Gannon.
“This is definitely the best day of my career,” Bell said.
“Two days ago I never imagined I would be riding here so to have two winners is amazing.
“It just makes life and all the hard work worthwhile. Days like this are what it’s all about.”
McEvoy, for several years the No.2 jockey at Godolphin had not ridden in Britain since 2008, and said he had enjoyed the experience.
“It has been a fantastic day. We tried our best and it was nice to be part of it,” he said.
“I am just really pleased to be back riding in England again.
“It has been a long time in coming. I got a winner so I cannot complain and I also had a few other ones who ran well. Well done to the Girls.”
