Kingsgate Native is expected to defend his title in Saturday’s Group Two Stakes at Haydock where he will come up against Hungarian champion Overdose.
Kingsgate Native, who won two Group Ones for John Best but is now into his third season with Sir Michael Stoute, began last season with victory in the 1000m sprint.
He contested six more top races during the campaign but failed to pass the post in front again, rounding off the year with sixth in the Hong Kong Sprint.
The winner of the 2008 Golden Jubilee Stakes, Kingsgate Native was gelded and returned to training after complications when retired to stud.
Overdose is lining up for his first British start after missing last year’s Royal Ascot meeting when owner Zoltn Mikczy pulled the plug saying he wasn’t 100 per cent.
A spokesman for Kingsgate Nartive’s owner Cheveley Park, said the six-year-old was on target.
“We’re hoping to run,” John Marsh said.
“He has a little bit more to do, and there is the ground and everything else to take into consideration, but it’s the intention to run. He’s doing fine and he looks great.”
There are 15 acceptors for the Group Two event including Nunthorpe Stakes winner Sole Power and veteran Borderlescott.
