Melbourne Cup hopeful Jukebox Jury has had to share his Irish St Leger win with Duncan after the pair fought to the line in Saturday’s Classic at the Curragh.
The Mark Johnston-trained Jukebox Jury rallied near the line to force the dead heat with another Melbourne Cup entrant, Red Cadeaux, a well beaten third.
Jockey Johnny Murtagh praised the fighting qualities of Jukebox Jury.
“I thought he was beaten in the last 100 yards as Eddie (Ahern) was coming there strongly, but in all fairness to my lad, typical Mark Johnston, he fought back,” Murtagh said.
“It was right on the line and just on the line I felt I had my head down. It was a fair result for everybody.
“It’s my first Irish Leger winner so I’m absolutely over the moon.”
Johnston’s wife Deirdre said the Canadian International was also among the options for Jukebox Jury.
Weights for the Melbourne Cup will be released on Tuesday.
